  1. Or the loss to UVU who went on to have a horrible season. (6-10-2, #151 RPI)
  2. I'm staying near the airport which is close to UL's soccer stadium and Churchill Downs. Some will likely want to see the Louisville Slugger Museum (https://www.sluggermuseum.com/), but I'm more interested in the Kentucky Derby Museum (https://www.derbymuseum.org/) if I have time to do either. There may be other options, but I'm only there the one afternoon/night.
  3. What better way to minimize the traveling Akron fan contingent than to schedule the game on Friday night rather than Saturday? #gamesmanship
  4. How about speakers [perhaps, wireless] mounted on the light posts on the other side of the stadium? I sit in the front close to the field in front of the press box, and it is still unbearable there. I would like to keep my hearing.
  5. The experience is not the same without showing up for warm ups and staying to hear the "I Believe" chant and congratulating our players. They are awesome players, student-athletes, great young men. I only get on them from time to time because I know they are capable of winning it all, but they have to want it more than their opponents. I love our Mens Soccer program... Caleb, Jared, et al took it to the pinnacle in 2010 and Jared, et al have done well carrying the tradition. I have and will go out of my way for this team. Totally agree buflobo. Cut the music when the players & Rowdies do the "I Believe" chant. Is it really that difficult to remember to do that?! The March to the Match seems to be gone; please let's not destroy the "I Believe" celebrations.
  6. https://collegesoccernews.com/index.php/awards/team-of-the-week/1124-college-soccer-news-national-team-of-the-week-week-ending-november-26-2017 Sam Gainford - RS Senior - Forward - Akron Gainford continues to be an impact player on the offensive side of the ball for Akron. He found the back of the net from twenty-five yards out and placed a shot into the left corner of the goal to play a key role in Akron's 3-2 win in overtime against Wisconsin. Senior forward Stuart Holthusen netted the game-winning goal for the Zips who improve to 18-3-1 and will face Louisville in the Elite Eight.
  7. No time for 'Woe is me. If we just had the 4 seed.' The Zips' seeding in this tournament was fair. Our Zips can do this, but they have to want it more than Louisville. Given the way the Zips looked at the end of regulation v Wisconsin, I'm not sure that is the case. It's time to see if Jared, staff, and team can do something that Caleb Porter, staff, and team could not ... get to the College Cup without having a top 4 seed. Others have done it, but they wanted it more than their opponent and found the way to grind it out. Hopefully, these Zips will do the same and stop looking to the referees when they get a little bump. Man up. Hard nose soccer gets it done in this tournament. Go Zips!!!
  8. It's not my picture to post. Not sure I should have even posted it here, but it was already on twitter.
  9. From that little boy in the stands to the current Captain of CrewSC!
  10. Many thanks to Julia Trapp for posting this and Dave Sterling for picking up on it. Great picture of one of Zips Men's Soccer's #6 greats!!!
  11. I just noticed that WMU is at MSU on Saturday at 6 pm. Did MSU add lights at DeMartin this season or are they playing elsewhere?
  12. WMU already defeated Albany. They are now facing Michigan State at East Lansing. WMU lost once to MSU at Kalamazoo earlier this season.
  13. It was nice seeing current LA Galaxy Head Coach (former Seattle Sounders and Columbus Crew Head Coach) Sigi Schmid in the house this afternoon. I love the attention our powerhouse team draws.
  14. Of 204 D1 Mens Soccer teams, the MAC has 2 who are still playing in the Round of 16.
  15. Otorhinolaryngology is a surgical subspecialty within medicine that deals with conditions of the ear, nose, and throat and related structures of the head and neck.
  16. I️ agree. Let him in. Happy to have as many folks involved as possible.
  17. U.S. Soccer has had their eye on Porter as a potential future men’s national team manager for quite some time. He was in charge of the Under-23 side’s 2012 Olympics qualifying campaign, and was expected to receive consideration for the vacant USMNT job. But even if Porter doesn’t get that gig, he’ll be extremely in demand and is unlikely to have trouble landing a new job. I'd love to see Caleb get his opportunity as USMNT Head Coach. But whether or not he lands that job, US [Mens] Soccer needs him...a YNT head coach, technical director, assistant coach... The Colorado Rapids, among others, could also desperately use Caleb's skills.
  18. So much for Air Force. Of course, I didn't see Albany getting past Maryland as TDS predicted (but it wasn't the high scoring affair they predicted. 0-0 draw, 5-4 Albany advances on pk's)
  19. Could we get Steve Zakuani bobbleads this go around?
  20. Officially a draw not a loss.
  21. ^Amateur^ ... How many times do I have to direct you to the Zips Media guide...http://gozips.com/documents/2017/8/25/msoc_17guide_web.pdf Pages 66-72. Goals and number of games are there. For example: 1985: 17 goals alloewed / 20 games 1986: 20 goals allowed / 24 games You're welcome buflobo
  22. Awesome...
  23. I think you misread the 2nd sentence. As I read it, i believe kreed was referring to Dambrot/Akron not Groce/Ohio. That Dambrot "turned a below average to bad MAC program into the class of the MAC..."
  24. Different Akron style back then... To contain Akron's English-style of play (scoring early and then focusing on defending its own net,) Rennie looked to control the strategy of the game. Taking advantage of his team's depth, he used frequent substitutions to slow the pace of play on the fast turf. As a result, starting goalkeeper Mark Dodd had to make just three saves to register his ninth shutout of the season. The winning and only goal of the game came at 1:34 into the second half, when Stone connected with an assist by Valenti and senior Carl Williamson that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. It was Stone's eighth game-winning goal of the season, placing him at the top of the NCAA tourney in scoring with four goals and five assists.
