  1. I'll call this Zips related since former Zips Mens Soccer MF Will Trapp plays for the Columbus Crew and is the current team captain. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/10/columbus_crew_sc_mls_team_migh.html#incart_river_mobile_index This would make sense if Cincinnati were to get a team. Also opens up Detroit. Neither market would then be pulling from Columbus. However, I would hate to see Columbus lose one of MLS' founding teams and for MLS access to be further from us. ALthough not super convenient, it is nice to have MLS access just a 1.5 hour drive away immediately off I-71.
  2. Timbers are in with last night's win vs DC United. Go Timbers. https://www.mlssoccer.com/standings
  3. Watched that this morning. I won't spoil it with the details.
  4. Disappointing to not get the clean sheet. Jared said in his interview they sometimes focus too much on the negative, and so he didn't go on about that blunder. As I mentioned, I was happy with the Zips'/Joao's response, but they have to learn from those mistakes. To win against the best teams, those mistakes cannot be committed.
  5. I know you're not. That was my point, though. DeAndre played MF and never player defender prior to meeting CP. I guess the way I worded it wasn't clear..."...where he convinced a very talented now right back named DeAndre Yedlin to first move to playing that position (from playing MF)"
  6. Great to see the Plain Dealer have this article, but seems to be another lazy writer. When talking about CP's experience with US Soccer, he should have also mentioned Caleb's stint as a U18 MNT assistant, where he convinced a very talented Right Back named DeAndre Yedlin to move to playing that position.
  7. It appears your memories are in error...October 14, 1979, L 0-2 SIU-E, Page 67 of the Zips Mens Soccer Media Guide... http://gozips.com/documents/2017/8/25/msoc_17guide_web.pdf
  8. Yes, very nice to see Joao immediately wanting to make amends and quickly doing so, and then doing so again for good measure.
  9. I agree. I was there in Omaha in 2012 when the Zips got their first win in the series. Time for the 2nd one tonight. Go Zips.
  10. I think you’re being too negative about the timeline for Sam’s return.
  11. I hope the "bigs" are able to play. I don't think Jared was "resting them".
  12. But when you talk about getting a result out an overall tournament, you mean being the champion. In soccer, you either win the championship match on goals in the run of play/OT, or you tie and "win" on pk's. Winning on pk's is not really a "win" but the result is you are champion.
  13. I think the more clear answer is that a draw and "win" in a pk shootout is not a called win, but the result is as good as a win.
  14. After that disaster at Trinidad & Tobago, this was a nice read this morning from U17 USMNT Head Coach, John Hackworth, who is leading his team in the U!7 WC in India. The link is to...
  15. WMU also had a quality win over Akron. The Zips winning out and not winning the MAC tournament could result in a NCAA berth dependent upon how much our RPI is hurt by our lesser opponents. However, this team needs to find itself and consistency for any NCAA Tourney berth to be possible this season. I was at WMU. Congrats to the Broncos for doing what they needed to do to get the win. The Zips inconsistency reared its ugly head again. They did not play Akron soccer; they did not respond well to the adversity (wind and falling behind); they had opportunities and once again could not finish; they allowed another goal on a set piece, which the defense and GK just seemed to not be engaged in; and the Zips' set pieces were poor. Another 0-1 road loss. Can't get to the NCAA Tourney this way. Need to dig deep and come together. This team has shown its resiliency in the past; need to find it quickly now.
  16. Zips always stick together. Go Zips.
  17. 4 games in 11 days; that is tough. Congrats to our players for grinding this one out. Get some rest tonight and on the ride home tomorrow.
