  1. Received my Mens Soccer season tickets today. I was out of town and just had my mail resumed today. So, I don't know whether they arrived prior to today. Per the enclosed information, we will not get our scarves until the UMass Lowell game.
  2. Royal Cascadian Technological Institute Discovery ... #RCTID (Rose City 'Til I Die)
  3. Great come back after the Caleb Porter - led (Akron tie-in) Timbers recently defeated the LA Galaxy. This is a great response to the Timbers "diving" meme that the Galaxy released late last season.
  4. When we won in 2010, I remember a Western Michigan team in the 1960's being mentioned. Had to look it up...apparently Men's Cross Country 1964 & 65. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2009/09/1964_65_cross_country_teams_ge.html
  5. And... FFT: That 2015 championship has to be the high point in your career. CP: Absolutely. I try to have in my office, on my little mantle, I like to have the lowest moment and the highest moment always. So I've got the Olympic moment, a picture of that – a picture of me in my national team [gear] – as a reminder of the lowest, and the highest moment, for sure, is the MLS Cup. And then, obviously, the national championship was a really big one, too. That had never been done at Akron in any sport, and only one other time in the entire Mid-American Conference had a national champion happened. So that was pretty cool.
  6. And this... I also think it's been good for me, because I've had to coach my team in games where sometimes the opponent's more talented. And at Akron, that was rarely the case.
  7. Good find @TennZip. I didn't even get very far into this article. I love this... CP: Absolutely. There's pros and cons to both levels. And let's be honest, the job I was in at Akron was a great job. But I'd been there seven years, and I'd accomplished really everything I could accomplish in terms of developing players for the next level. I had 20 guys who went on to the pro ranks, and I won a national championship [in 2010], and I saw so many of my guys leave that I felt like, you know what, maybe it's time for me to leave and make that jump and challenge myself at a higher level.
  8. I don't know why the roster on GoZips.com hasn't been updated with the incoming class yet. Maybe they can't do that until the first practice with the coaches. With that said, I think we may see Freshmen David Egbo and Mark Alexander step up in their first season. Sam and Ezana both had great summer seasons in the development leagues. I look for significant numbers from Sam. If Ezana can get control of his "competitiveness" on the field, and really step up as a team player, he could also contribute heavily. I hear that Nick Hinds has been working really hard...proud of him and how he has stepped up. I look for him to be a key on both defense and offense. As TennZip mentioned, I hope that Manel and Stuart can stay healthy and on the field more often than off. If so, I know they will significantly contribute. Reggie Laryea should also contribute, and I also see Niko and Nate on the back line. I'm not sure how all the positions will fill in, but I think Jared and staff have good options. If past recruiting is any indication, I'm also expecting to see some additional players of whom we might not yet know. A little more than 2 weeks until we get to see some action. Go Zips.
  9. With New England's 3-0 win last night and 2 assists for Scott Caldwell, I couldn't help but post, probably re-post, this interview from November 2016. Around 11:30 in they reminisce about Scotty's time at Akron.
  10. USA !!! Congrats to Darlington on winning another Cup... College Cup, MLS Cup, Gold Cup.
  11. Big Deal. LOL... Nagbe and Mattocks are Timbers teammates, but they were also Zips teammates.
  12. I had hoped by now that UA would be selling vintage Jason Taylor #33 Zips jerseys for those who want to go to Canton and show Zips Pride during the HoF induction. What was I thinking? Oh well, I will be out of town and unable to go anyway. Let me thank those who are going in advance for representing UA well! I think JT will appreciate your being there.
  13. ...A ten-man New York City side found themselves deadlocked at zeroes with the Fire at halftime, reliant upon the pace and relentlessness of Lewis and captain David Villa to stretch the Chicago defense and break the mounting pressure. A flurry of goals would come just a few minutes into the second frame, including two for the good guys. Lewis found himself directly involved in one, and his speed on the wings helped create the other. Through his 72 minutes, the rookie provided a release valve for the pressure the Fire were able to create by virtue of their extra man, made quick decisions on the ball, and popped up in plenty of dangerous spots. ...
  14. So awesome that the only two former Zips on 2017 Gold Cup squads have both made it to the finals. Zips' and Timbers' teammates, incredible. USA all the way, of course!!!
  15. Rookie winger Jonathan Lewis will make his first start for NYCFC today as they take on the Chicago Fire at Yankee Stadium. Lewis last featured for NYCFC back in June, playing the final 12 minutes of their late comeback victory over the Philadelphia Union and causing plenty of trouble down the flank. The SuperDraft pick out of Akron is part of a lineup that features three changes made by Head Coach Patrick Vieira for this double game week. ...
  16. CONGRATULATIONS to Ezana Kahsay who recently got his US citizenship! (story ~2 minutes into video) http://www.erienewsnow.com/clip/13506530/erie-sports-now-wednesday-july-19th?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter_ErieNewsNow
  17. Always like hearing from Scott Caldwell, the man who scored the 2010 National Championship Game-winning goal!
  18. Happy for him, but this hurts...
