  1. I️ agree. Let him in. Happy to have as many folks involved as possible.
  2. U.S. Soccer has had their eye on Porter as a potential future men’s national team manager for quite some time. He was in charge of the Under-23 side’s 2012 Olympics qualifying campaign, and was expected to receive consideration for the vacant USMNT job. But even if Porter doesn’t get that gig, he’ll be extremely in demand and is unlikely to have trouble landing a new job. I'd love to see Caleb get his opportunity as USMNT Head Coach. But whether or not he lands that job, US [Mens] Soccer needs him...a YNT head coach, technical director, assistant coach... The Colorado Rapids, among others, could also desperately use Caleb's skills.
  3. So much for Air Force. Of course, I didn't see Albany getting past Maryland as TDS predicted (but it wasn't the high scoring affair they predicted. 0-0 draw, 5-4 Albany advances on pk's)
  4. Could we get Steve Zakuani bobbleads this go around?
  5. Officially a draw not a loss.
  6. ^Amateur^ ... How many times do I have to direct you to the Zips Media guide...http://gozips.com/documents/2017/8/25/msoc_17guide_web.pdf Pages 66-72. Goals and number of games are there. For example: 1985: 17 goals alloewed / 20 games 1986: 20 goals allowed / 24 games You're welcome buflobo
  7. Awesome...
  8. I think you misread the 2nd sentence. As I read it, i believe kreed was referring to Dambrot/Akron not Groce/Ohio. That Dambrot "turned a below average to bad MAC program into the class of the MAC..."
  9. Different Akron style back then... To contain Akron's English-style of play (scoring early and then focusing on defending its own net,) Rennie looked to control the strategy of the game. Taking advantage of his team's depth, he used frequent substitutions to slow the pace of play on the fast turf. As a result, starting goalkeeper Mark Dodd had to make just three saves to register his ninth shutout of the season. The winning and only goal of the game came at 1:34 into the second half, when Stone connected with an assist by Valenti and senior Carl Williamson that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. It was Stone's eighth game-winning goal of the season, placing him at the top of the NCAA tourney in scoring with four goals and five assists.
  10. Who is right here? ZIP says Desmond Armstrong played for Columbia; Bufflobo says Maryland. Did he transfer from Columbia to Maryland or vice versa? EDIT: Appears bufflobo is correct...Maryland. No listing of Columbia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Armstrong EDIT2: Akron defeated Fresno State in the semi-final in 1986...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Soccer_Championship Unless I'm overlooking them, Columbia not even in the bracket in 1986.
  11. Now that I look at it again, I picked the upset. I think Air Force is at home, too.
  12. Yes, I do. Bring home that victory against the flushes!!! Go Zips!
  13. Enjoy. I will be in Columbus...
  14. He who develops the scoring system is in charge of scoring and reporting scores.

  16. Thanks TennZips. The most interesting predictions (interpret as I disagrees) to me are: Air Force 2, Virginia Tech 1 Albany 3, Maryland 2
  17. How could we call ourselves Zips Mens Soccer fans if we didn't have confidence that our talented team will put in the work and find the drive to win it all and bring home the trophy from Philadelphia?! GO ZIPS!!!
  18. Still no predictions? With all of the comments on the others, one would think you would throw your large hat of immense soccer knowledge into the ring. jab - jab
  19. Not a Zip, but hey he's representing the U-S-A...
  20. where is yours?

  22. Moved to "November Numbness" thread.
  23. Except with Akron winning this time. I believe Duke's 1st ever team National Championship was Men's Soccer in 1986 before they became a basketball powerhouse.
  24. Thanks for finding this article about IU Mens Soccer TennZip...http://www.idsnews.com/article/2017/11/sp-iums-2004-oral-history I was particularly drawn to this... Porter: “What’s crazy about it is I look back now and think about it and reflect and think about how amazing it is, when I was in that moment it was, like, expected. I remember actually being upset after the game because I didn’t think we played well. We just found a way to win. I don’t think it was one of the most talented IU teams in history. Obviously, Coach Yeagley will tell you some of the best teams and most talented teams never won championships. Ones that did were really hard and tough and found ways to win games, and it wasn’t always because they had the most talent. I think this team in 2004 was kind of the epitome of that.”
