  1. That was fun. Our Zips came prepared for this one. The starting lineup changes worked well. So happy ZipsVoice is regretting not being here for this one...Sorry ZipsVoice, but I know you understand. Glad you got to see it on your mobile. Go Zips. Keep up the hard work.
  2. Never a doubt about this, either... “There’s no secret I’m a big fan of Darren Mattocks,” Porter said following the Timbers' 3-0 shellacking of Orlando City on Sunday night. If I recall correctly, Caleb traveled to Jamaica to find Darren for the Zips.
  3. Great article. Grabbed me with the first sentence... Fresh off of winning a national championship under Caleb Porter at Akron, the Vancouver Whitecaps selected Darren Mattocks with the second pick in the 2012 SuperDraft.
  4. Not sure, but I thought this seemed like the appropriate thread for this...
  5. The Timbers did an awesome job on this. No wonder they won 3-0 and looked so energized last night.
  6. St Louis' defeat of Stanford, Washington's defeat of Seattle, and the Zips' win over UMass Lowell has the Zips up to 66 in RPI rank (up from 132, if I recall). Michigan St is currently #1, Notre Dame is #7, Western Michigan is #9. Lots of opportunities to move up. Keep at it Zips; work hard.
  7. Not sure which poll has MSU #1, but the current RPI rank is showing them as #1. Good enough for me. Fine if it helps bring in a good crowd, too.
  8. Yes. Out today because of the red card at St. Louis.
  9. And the Timbers Army...
  10. I love how much the Timbers got into making this little guy's wish come true
  11. Stuck around for the first half of the womens game. Looked good but tired near the end of the first half. Sorry to read but not surprised they faltered in the 2nd half. Wish them the best to continue progressing and find some more victories.
  12. WOW, that was fun. This match had everything... Lots of Zips goals...5 (including a goal by our 2nd team) A brace by Sam Gainford First career assists for David Egbo and Joao Moutinho First career goals by David Egbo and Jackson Crawford A goal by Nick Hinds who looks to be getting back to form...so happy for NIck A PK save by Ben Lundt A team save by Manel Cordiero...so awesome to see Manel step in and take care of business A clean sheet by Ben Lundt and team Great job Zips. Keep at it!!!
  13. Yep, Otto Orf with the Cleveland Force at the Richfield Coliseum. In the days that I thought indoor soccer was great. I can no longer say that now that I have such appreciation for the true beautiful game.
  14. I believe that most of the schedule is done year to year and all by the coaches. Some match ups might be in the works in advance, but I think most of it solidifies throughout the spring and is finalized in late spring. I think what makes it look haphazard is the willingness (or not) of other teams to do a home and away. For example, Wake Forest has shown a willingness to come to Akron; UNC has not. Nice to schedule ACC opponents who are relatively close and often bring an RPI boost, but not at the expense of always playing at their place. I think the western swings are okay as a weekend set; the idea of UVU on Friday and Denver on Monday was well planned, but then having to sparsely schedule the next few doesn't seem so good. I suspect the Washington match on Friday was meant to be an "Akron Tournament" with a Friday/Sunday or Friday/Monday game set, but they may have had issues getting 3 other quality teams in that time period. Then U@B dropped mens soccer, and SIUE was added late to the MAC. That may have had some effect on ability to shuffle out-of-conference games.
  15. "This was WMU's first time being ranked and hosting another ranked team. It was one of the biggest games in program history and the community of Kalamazoo came out to support in record numbers. A record crowd of 2,317 came to watch WMU defeat Michigan."
  16. WMU defeated Michigan 1-0 today. Living up to their rankings.
  17. Credit to TennZip for pointing this out...
  18. In reference to the schedule, through last night, all of the other MAC teams have played 7 or 8 matches while the Zips have played 5. http://getsomemaction.com/index.aspx?path=msoc From now through the end of October, it appears the Zips will have 3 matches every 7 days. Sep 24, 27, 30 Oct 3 (A), 7 (A), 10, 13, 17, 21, 24 (A), 27 (A) Nov 1, 4 (A) - away
