I wasn't there in Brazil, but I saw Bisbee and the Mrs. on the broadcast when they panned a portion of the crowd around 53:16 in the match. Nice USA doo rag on his head.

Awesome. I heard all of the families, including Bisbee & the Mrs, had to watch the match in Recife from their hotel due to the flooding. Their bus couldn't get to them through the flooded streets around their hotel.

And shortly after University of Akron was trending on twitter:

THANKS Matt Kaulig for donating the money to make new uniforms possible. I also appreciate the Tank on the back of the uniforms. However, none of that changes the fact that these uniforms make the Zips look like other teams, specifically Baylor in mind. Why can't the Zips have a unique, invented here look? Why copy what others have already done? In the end, the results on the field are what matter, not what the Zips are wearing as long as it's respectable, which these are.

I think this might have been overtaken tonight by the LeBron story. If so, perhaps this will air tomorrow (Wednesday 6/25/14). We'll see. Edit: There's still 7 and 11, but I think the LeBron news today caused them to move this. I hope they still air the story sometime.

Apparently Channel 3 is doing a story on DeAndre/Zips tonight (on 6 pm and 7 pm news, I believe) 6/23/2014: Me: @KimWheelerWKYC Nice piece on USMNT/WorldCup. Did you know #2 DeAndre Yedlin who came into the match last night played for the Zips? 6/23/2014 Reply from @KimWheelerWKYC : we are doing that story tomorrow

Seattle native Yedlin plays vital role off the bench in USA's draw with Portugal http://www.soundersfc.com/post/2014/06/23/seattle-native-yedlin-plays-vital-role-bench-usas-draw-portugal ..."We've been working on a lot of little things for more than five weeks and one thing is to have DeAndre in our group now for a reason. Not only because he's one of our biggest talents, a youngster coming through the ranks, but because he has the qualities to make an impact in a game right now in this World Cup, which he did," Klinsmann said. "So now a guy comes in that hasn't played yet and maybe in the next game against Germany he will make an impact; this is our hope. That's what our belief is – that every one of these 23 guys on this roster will make an impact on this World Cup hopefully. We knew with DeAndre's speed and with his defensive skills playing up in Seattle at right back, we have another weapon to push back the defense and create problems. I said before if the ref doesn't blow the final whistle so early maybe DeAndre goes down and maybe we score the third one. It's fun to watch that kid."

Sigi Schmid’s analysis of U.S.-Portugal match http://seattletimes.com/html/worldcup/2023907063_sigischmid23xml.html "Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin made our city and our team very proud. They played vital roles in Sunday’s game...."

I agree. I always hated that because anyone can "Think Bigger". Turning toughts into reality takes real work.

USMNT: Why DeAndre Yedlin Should Start Against Portugalhttp://www.vavel.com/en-us/soccer/361080-usmnt-why-deandre-yedlin-should-start-against-portugal.html

I guess I don't see it as negatively as you. When they start poking fun at you on late night tv, you know you've made it to the spotlight. DeAndre is an awesome person and his uniqueness makes him stand out. I take it's that's why he was one of those "profiled". I think it's awesome that he's noticed...I hope he takes it that way.

I think that's dependent on how many Zips fans show up. I would think that Caleb Porter would garner a significant amount of support, plus I was mostly referring to his having coached at Akron for 7 years . That would make it feel like a home game to him (Darlington, Steve, Ben, and Michael).

All good points regarding the attendance. If it's true that attendance was in line with the numbers the Crew usually draws for USOC matches, then FES/CCF makes sense vs Crew Stadium. The smaller venue makes the atmosphere better with the limited crowd. Berhalter said he liked the atmosphere. He specifically made mention of the applause they received as they came off the field at half time. Hopefully they liked it enough to return. Edit: I'm sure it didn't help walk up attendance by Zips fans knowing that Wil Trapp was still unavailable (noted on theCrew.com match pre-view). I wish we could have seen him on our field again, but it was great just to see him there and talk with him. I was so happy for Chad to get to play out there again. Now, if the Crew and Timbers eventully meet in the USOC with the Crew having home field, they should come to Akron. But then again, they would be giving up home field to do that.
-
Disappointning that more NE Ohioans and Zips alumni and fans didn't take advantage of the opportunity to see the Crew locally. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It's also too bad that the moron media in Cleveland didn't even seem to take notice of this game, before or after, to my knowledge. They only seem to care about dissing Johnny Manziel and childishly rejoicing about the Heat losing to the Spurs. Why would you want to have any connection to an event that includes professional soccer players from Ohio at a time when the World Cup is happening?! I think I've finally realized that Cleveland really doesn't deserve a winning sports franchise. They seem more interested in creating dirt than creating a positive outlook.
-
Well, that would explain it. Guess I should have looked. Thanks.

Interesting when I googled "Stuart Holthusen New Zealand" and clicked on the images link, Jared Embick's picture shows up in rows 12 & 14. I wonder how the software makes that connection. Is there an article out there somewhere?

Just got back from the Crew's USOC match at Akron where, before the match, I met a man from New Zealand who told me that his son, Stuart Holthusen, a striker, has committed to the Zips and was moving in for the summer sessions. He mentioned Stuart is/will be on the New Zealand U20 team, but I know nothing else. It's too late this evening for me to google/search "Stuart Holthusen New Zealand" tonight, but have at it at your leisure ZipsNation.
