  1. This crowd should at least be average. It's a MAC Tournament game at the same time in the evening as most Zips' games.
  2. That CSN article didn't even discuss our 3 redshirt Freshman or several of the new recruits. It read as non-committal...recognizing another top recruiting class, but afraid to make a prediction given that only 4 starters are returning. Great thing about college soccer is that soon we get a [spring] preview.
  3. Sorry CK...didn't mean to "hijack" your thread. I tried to bring it back to the Zips by dropping former Zips' Coach Huggins' name.
  4. Indian Valley, as in Bobby Huggins? I went to Tuscarawas Valley, but like you, live in Brunswick now.
  5. Kofi Sarkodie...Houston man of style
  6. Urichsville isn't exactly in Athens' backyard. Interesting to discover another native of Tuscarawas County on the board.
  7. I agree...you have to love a coach who says "It can be done at Akron" and then does it. And, at the same time emphasizes that we all do it together...the team on the field with the fans supporting them. I also appreciate this quote..."The players dictate the system; not the system dictate the players." Even though he recruits GREAT soccer players, he adjusts his system to fit their abilities. Too many coaches, of various sports, don't seem to make these adjustments. I look forward to supporting our team in the Spring (preseason) games at home and away. I strongly encourage those fans who can to make the road trips as well as catching the games in Akron...everything, in the USA, is close this year (Pontiac, MI and Xenia are only 2.5-3 hour drives) and on weekends. I had a great time in Pontiac, at CSU, and at WVU last Spring. Our team approaches all of these games wanting to play their best and to win. The Spring games are every bit as competitive and fun as the games in the Fall. The games in Pontiac are indoors, so weather isn't a factor except in driving there. Also, you get to see some of the players you didn't see in the Fall...for example, our 3 redshirt Freshmen and the 5 of the incoming players have already joined the team this Spring.
  8. Tyrelle Pryor had Zips Men's Soccer Season tix?
  9. +2 Thank you both!
  10. Charlie Coles' reaction each time McNees hit a 3 was great...couldn't help but reminisce about Steve's first game vs the Sweaters (six 3-pointers without a miss, if I remember correctly).
  11. No problem on the MLS TV schedule pdf. It was easy enough to share once I created it. No guarantee on it's accuracy, however, since I didn't double-check it. So, you may want to verify it against the schedules at MLSsoccer.com.

  13. Monterrey? I thought it was to be in multiple venues. I'd go if I had a team of bodyguards. Of course, you're correct Z.I.P. I don't know why I said Monterrey. It is in Mexico at multiple venues, and I agree about the bodyguards. US Qualifies for FIFA U-17 World Cup

  19. I wonder if any of Caleb's players (i.e., Zips) are part of that team. Yes CHICAGO (Feb. 8, 2011) – The U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team roster has been set for a training camp to be held from Feb. 12-20, in Phoenix, Ariz. Head coach Mike Matkovich has called in 36 players, including 26 current Development Academy players and four Development Academy alumni. The U.S. will play friendlies against teams from Major League Soccer that are in the midst of preseason training in Phoenix. Matkovich’s squad has scrimmages set up against Sporting Kansas City and Colorado Rapids on Feb. 15 and Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers four days later. It will be the first training camp of 2011 for the U-18 MNT, which is made up of players born in 1993. There are 15 players that return from the team’s most recent camp, a four-team international tournament in Tel Aviv, Israel, including midfielder Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler, who scored the lone goal in the team’s three games. 20. Cool. Thanks. He should be in good shape by the time SKC visits the Crew on April 16th.
  21. That sucks! A little note from the MLS chat covering the game, prior to Teal's injury: JasonSaghini: Quick chat with Caleb Porter who is down here with the U-18's... Teal stopped by to say hi while were were chatting and his coach told him to "go get a goal" and Teal's response - "I'm going to"
  22. Kind of late, but here's the ESPN video...
  23. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you meant any disrespect. We definitely have different connotations of "cocky" and "confidence".
  24. Honestly, no. He wanted to win a national championship and play professionally. This is the place to do that. Once he knew that there was mutual interest there was no other place he was going to go. Awesome. I look forward to seeing him play in the Fall.
  25. I didn't take it as being cocky, but rather as a coach who is darn proud (rightfully so) of his players and their determination following the 2009 College Cup, and was ensuring that everyone present knew why the team won and deserved that award.
