  1. I'm with you DiG, RootforRoo, and GoZips. I'll attend any home game for Zips Mens Basketball, even the CBI and CIT.
  2. It was cool midway through the first half of the Sporting KC v Chivas match to listen to the MLS announcers talk about the Akron reunion of Bunbury, Zemanski, Gavin, and Valentin prior to the start of the game and continue discussing Caleb Porter's pipeline to the MLS and Akron's success. All saw action except Teal, who is still nursing the elbow injury. I hope he's able to play when SKC visits Columbus on April 16th. Also, read that Ampai subbed into the San Jose game in the 81st minute.
  3. Wow, Z.I.P. Crew Xtra just showed (prediction) Chivas battling with Portland and Vancouver for the basement of the West. They also had the Earthquakes at 6, just making the playoffs. Also, looks like Perry is playing tonight. I thought he was called up to US U20 national team. He's in at left back, I believe.
  4. Of course, now that I have discovered that the Crew vs DC United game will be on ONN this Saturday, I've also discovered that Perry Kitchen has been called up to the US U20's. Perhaps Kris Korb will find his way into the game.
  5. Sorry to go back and forth on this, but the Crew's website is now showing that ONN TV is broadcasting the Crew at DC United match on Saturday (March 19th)...so, perhaps ONN is showing ALL Crew games (home & away) this year as I had originally thought.
  6. Zakuani is in the starting XI. This is the year that the Zips take over the MLS! Go Zips! Yeah, I'm glad to see Steve playing. Hopefully, Seattle gets it done in the 2nd half. GO ZIPS!
  7. Zakuani (hip injury) is listed as questionable for tonight's match. Source
  8. If you're there in time to do so, I suggest going to, at least, the Irish as well as the Zips' open practice. It was fun in Portland to see our competition as well as other teams besides our own.
  9. It will be played at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu — Madrid, as you thought.
  10. I believe the Zips will be attending in person and not watching on TV, given the following passages from Caleb: In the evening, we travelled as a team to Getafe to watch a La Liga match (spanish first division) Getafe CF vs Athletic Bilbao. The match was at the Coliseum, which is the home stadium for Getafe. It was one of the smaller stadiums in La Liga (att. 17,000). Getafe is middle of the table and Athletic is currently fifth, so the match featured two very solid teams. The game was played in a constant down pour which made for a sloppier game than probably normal. The game started with what you would expect out of a spanish team with both teams looking to build and possess the ball but then I was suprised with how direct the teams played once it started to rain. It was good for our players to see that conditions can dictate the way teams choose to play even at the highest levels. When points matter, style is important but the conditions sometimes warrant adjustments to get the result. It was a good reminder that we need to be able to change gears at times when the game calls for something different. It was also interesting to see a smaller stadium and middle tier teams in the La Liga. Now that I have attended matches at Camp Nou (home of Barcelona FC) and Santiago Bernabeu (home of Real Madrid CF), there is quite a discrepancy in the level, facilities and money the top clubs have versus some of the others. I can only imagine how interesting it is when Barcelona comes to Getafe and goes from 100,000 fans to 17,000! Tomorrow we will watch Real Madrid vs Lyon in a champions league match so the players will be able to compare first hand.
  11. For those who can speak/read Spanish: Amistoso Combinado Juvenil Rayo vs Akron
  12. Our Soccer Pros were also into it: Blair Gavin: yaaaaa akron!!!!!!! Mac daddys Anthony Ampaipitakwong: CONGRATS AKRON BASKETBALL!! So happy for them and this year they are making a run in the NCAA tournament!!!! watch out Ben Zemanski: Congrats Zips! #NCAATournyBound #Roo Zarek Valentin: Congrats to the mens basketball team. Know all of chivas is behind you guyss! Ill never forget the great times in study tables hahah
  13. I agree and look forward to reading more. I was going to be upset, like you, if we didn't get any news.
  14. Looking at the Crew's website, it appears that only the Crew HOME GAMES are on ONN this season. So, in the schedules I provided, you can scratch all of the ONN/Crew away telecasts. 2011 Crew Schedule
  15. UCSB upset the top seed in the Big West Tourney on ESPN2 immediately following the MAC Tournament Championship Game. From the Gauchos forum this morning: ZipME87 wrote:CONGRATULATIONS Gauchos from an Akron Zip alum/fan who enjoyed your hospitality a few months ago in the College Cup. Awesome to see you knocked off your #1 seed last night (just like my Zips who were seeded #6 in the MAC Tourney) and are going dancing! BEST WISHES to you. Mike responded: Thanks! I think many Gauchos likely saw that Akron match as it preceded our game. Although I was dismayed to miss the first 10 minutes of the game due to Akron going to OT, I must say that I was pulling for the Zips and happy they won. Good year to be an Akron fan, eh? See you this Fall! Gauchos forum
  16. Not quite but thanks for making me look. 2 are for 16 seeds. The other 2 are: The two at-large pairings will both occupy the seed line where they would normally be placed in the bracket. The pairings could occupy different lines in the bracket. For example, one game may be played between two No. 10 seeds, while the other could feature a pair of No. 12 seeds. Winners of those games would advance to play their natural opponent on a 64-team bracket; the No. 10 seed would play a seventh-seeded team and a 12th-seeded team would meet a No. 5 seed. In accordance with the bracketing procedures, teams will continue to be assigned to the closest available geographic location while avoiding regular-season rematches and conference opponents. This marks the first time in tournament history that the last four at-large teams will be publicly revealed. Source
  17. Lunardi currently has us as a 16 seed, but personally I think we could go as high as a 13 or 14. Current 13 seeds according to Lunardi: Princeton, Bucknell, Belmont, Oakland Current 14 seeds according to Lunardi: Long Island, Morehead State, Indiana State, Wofford Current 15 seeds according to Lunardi: St. Peters, UCSB, Northern Colorado, UNC Asheville Current 16 seeds (not play-in games): Boston U, Akron Current Play-in games: Alabama State/Hampton, UALR/Texas San Antonio I believe all four 16 seeds are play ins.
  18. Congratulation GC44 and to all of the players...I'm so happy for all of them (and us fans). Unfortunately, I won't be at the Watch Party today due to whatever crud I have...taking no chances on giving it to any of the team.
  19. Opinion doesn't matter. Twice KD and company won in the NIT when opinion said otherwise. Time to step up and prove this guy is a jealous d-bag. Remember, you can't spell D+*CHEBAG without OU!
  20. CK, I agree with you about "Joe Akron". However, the dismal turnout of season ticket holders was ridiculous. Section L was only about 10% full until they announced that the fans in the bleachers could move into the lower seats. At $10/seat it's SAD that our supposed fan base couldn't be bothered to come to a game played at the same time as any regular season weeknight game. The players deserve better than that, even if they are playing inconsistently. I never paid attention, but the Tommy Evans Lounge must have been closed.
  21. Travis M. Clark has a little more detail on the Spain trip: Akron to play Real Madrid Reserves The following dates appear at the end of the article: * March 14 vs. Atlético Madrid Reserves * March 16 vs. Getafe Reserves * March 18 vs. Real Madrid Reserves
  22. I agree. Very nice...well done!
  23. What he said. I don't want to lose to Millikin, Malone, etc. and win only 1 basketball game in a season!
  24. That was fun. Heath and Zarek should get along well. Thanks.
  25. Yes, but I dont' think that's exactly what he meant due to the time limits on answering those questions. It has to be some of both. Recruit players who can play the system/style of play. Adjust the system to fit the recruited players' abilities as a team.
