  1. Thanks Z.I.P. It's AWESOME that a school on the west coast is so excited that Akron has scheduled to go out there and play them. to our Men's Soccer Team. edit-We should all be PROUD of what they have built and continue to build. GO ZIPS!
  2. You got my point exactly. I understood yours and CK's comparisons given the difference in rankings, but soccer is a "cruel" game because of limited scoring opportunities and 1 point per goal (as opposed to 3-pts for FG's, 6 pts for TD's, etc.).
  3. I totally agree, but I think that all of us know that on any given day, any given team can upset another; so, I just don't like focusing so much on this loss. It's over and can't be changed. What's important is how our team responds. I believe in them; I'll be there and support them; and, I know they can reach their goal. But, they have to make it happen.
  4. That's what I was thinking. Who needs any seats? The team can play inside the Rubber Bowl while the fans stay outside and tailgate.
  5. What I take away from this, is that I won't be surprised if some team ranked way lower than them beats them in the tournament. I now know this team is capable of that. What I hope is, that it is a reminder that they need to stay focused no matter how weak the opponent seems. It's human to lose focus during a long stretch after you've defeated top competition; this needs to be a reminder that they need to stay focused no matter how weak the opponent seems . EDIT: Actually, what you should take away from this is that I will be following them on game cast, at their remaining home games, and I plan to be in Santa Barbara.
  6. It's really sad that they put so few butts in the seats on Josh Cribbs Day.
  7. I respectfully disagree with both you and CK. There's not as much margin for error in soccer as there is in American football. It was definitely a big upset, but I wouldn't compare it to Akron defeating the #1 FBS team in the country, no matter the RPI difference. I think we should concentrate more on Coach Porter's other tweet..."Keep the Faith". I've become spoiled in the last 2 seasons given all of the Men's Soccer Team's success. But, they are human and can and do make mistakes. Hopefully, this is just a minor setback from which they'll recover and go on to pick up 1 of the top 4 seeds (and home field) in the NCAA Tournament. GO ZIPS!
  8. I vote "let him finish the season", but move the last 2 home games to the Rubber Bowl where iCoach can be in perfect harmony with a venue befitting his abilities.
  9. He can find his way to campus...er, I think. Maybe he carpools with TW --- in tune with the environment, then.
  10. Looks like the winner of FAU-BGSU this week will the the 4th team in Akron. What if they tie?
  11. Thanks. I wondered if he was hurting, and not scheduled to play. But, why didn't Scott Caldwell play? Is he also injured, or was it thought that others would do better in that lineup without Kofi and Nanchoff?
  12. The biggest disappointment to me was that it didn't seem like any of the Zips took this game seriously, including Coach Porter. What was with that starting lineup not including Nanchoff and Caldwell? (Kofi is hurt; so, I understand his not playing.) When you're the #1 team in the country, you're everyone's "big" game; you can't afford to be complacent. I realize the Zips' "reserve" players should have been able to win this game, and it's great to give players a rest, but the feel I had was this caused the Zips to believe all they had to do was show up and they would win. I'm not down on my team; I just want to see them be successful and reach their goal of winning the national championship. I hope this game reminded them that they have to pay attention to each game as it comes and not take anything or anyone for granted.
  13. Speaking of MLS, see former Zips' striker Steve Zakuani and the Seattle Sounders face the LA Galaxy Sunday (10-31-2010) at 8 pm on ESPN2 in the first game of the Conference Semifinal of the MLS Cup. The game is at Qwest Field, where Sounders fans create the greatest atmosphere in the MLS. I believe the Sounders had the best 2nd half record in the MLS; so, although they lost 2 games to LA in the early season, this game could have a different outcome. As I understand it, the team that scores the most goals in a home & home 2-game set advances to the Conference Final. The Sounders made the playoffs for the 2nd time in their 2-year existence. Perhaps Akron will be mentioned during the game. Sounders Road-to-the-Playoffs
  14. One HUGE difference is that this guy is from OHIO, which to me, means that he would care about Akron and would have an understanding of football in Ohio. Akron's biggest mistake was hiring Tom Wistrcill. Hunter Yurachek should have moved up for continuity and his understanding of Akron.
  15. Instead of looking at it negatively, I hope Zeke is thinking "I'll go out and show these MAC media morons who is All-MAC!"
  16. I agree. It was great to see an opponent play like the Zips at our place. What a fun match to watch. I would love to see the Zips play them again in the near future; well worth a trip to Omaha.
  17. How did David look? He looked good...fast and good movement/ball control.
  18. David Murrow's season continues. Strongsville defeated Copley 4 - 1 tonight. Fun game (worth the short drive from Brunswick). Up next, undefeated Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
  19. That's GREAT.
  20. This is a MESS that I can't foresee a fix in the next few years. As much as I hate it, I think Rasor is correct that you can't fire i(diot)Coach and pay him $375,000/year for the next 4 years not to coach...can you believe $1.5 MILLION !!! What other job can you do so poorly and make $1.8+ MILLION? Someone is going to have to at least force i(mbecile)Coach to upgrade his staff to coaches who at least have a clue. However, I'm not sure how that can be done. How do you get people who know what they're doing to work for i(ncompetent)Coach?
  21. I wondered about those uniforms during the game. I didn't think they should be allowed to wear a light color like that. I would have thought they had to wear something darker like...
  22. +1 No one wants to win a National Championship more than the players. Most, if not all of them, play year round at UA and on developmental teams to be the best. Cut them a little slack when they have an off day but are still able to win. The coaches and team recognize their shortcomings.
  23. +1 No one should be allowed to block other fans' view or drip on other fans with an umbrella. Buy a poncho. They are not that expensive.
  24. I agree the Zips played "down" last night. The usual intensity didn't seem to be there, but I must admit that I felt uneasy prior to this game. I think it was because I didn't go to the football game, and I just felt uneasy about the 'failure' in the air. It's strange that I never felt that way last season when we had a football game and soccer game on the same day. Perhaps it's because football wasn't a complete failure last year and didn't seem to drag down the whole campus. At any rate, there were several times during the game that I heard Kofi yelling to his teammates to pick up their intensity. Good to hear the team captains taking charge on the field. It was also great to see Ben Speas score what became the winning goal. I've been wanting to see Ben get more playing time this season.
  25. Tom Brady went to the University of Meeeshigan. (That's a gratuitous Bob Ufer reference. If you don't know who Ufer was. look him up He was awesome.) Otherwise, I have the same thoughts when I keep hearing what a great recruiter RI was for ND. I think BZ was referring to the fact that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick and that Weiss taught him to be one of the best QB's ever while with the New England Patriots (not at Notre Dame),
