  1. Thanks Yaznasty. I hadn't heard of Aodhan Quinn, yet. No disrespect to him or any of our incoming players...I guess I haven't been able to keep up.
  2. Yes...ever since the Spring schedule ended. I see that Matt Dagilis and Kayvon Afsarifard are listed on the Akron Summit Assault roster. Does anyone know where some of out other players may be competing this Summer? Between these development teams and our Professional players in MLS, I'll make it through the rest of Spring and the Summer. I do not want to wish the warmer months away.
  3. I like that there is another Bunbury (now 16) under his father's tutelage...Logan Bunbury. As Coach is quoted in the article..."A lot of kids whose dads were pros have a built-in hunger and drive and standard that has been bred in them over the years," said Akron head coach Caleb Porter. "It's a big reason so many of these kids are successful." EDIT: Logan Bunbury
  4. Michigan has a beautiful tennis complex which also happens to be next to their soccer complex...nice place for another Zips' victory!
  5. According to the San Jose Earthquakes website, the Portland vs San Jose Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in game at JELD-WEN Field will be broadcast on the Earthquakes website tonight at 10:30 pm ET (7:30 pm PT).
  6. Thanks Yaznasty. Much more in that video than I got to see on ONN during the game broadcast.
  7. Awesome. Way to go Ladies! Go Zips!
  8. Wow. Here it is from a Sounders fan's perspective in the crowd: and Steve's reaction on twitter: Experienced the most emotional 1 min of my life today. @soundersfc blew me away w/ this http://bit.ly/jkzxlM Edit - Also on Steve's twitter page: My friends @EriqCharitonov @stevonselects @Davidnmyers took my mum 2 the game. She could only stand 4 a few secs before the tears took over
  9. I was fortunate enough to watch that live on MLS Direct Kick...as the announcer said, it brought goosebumps to see/hear. I only watched the first 25 minutes of the game, but Steve was mentioned numerous times and you could see numerous signs of support throughout Qwest Field. Also, when ONN interviewed Caleb at the Crew halftime after the Zips were recognized, they asked about Steve.
  10. ONN showed the Ziips on the field having their picture taken. Also interviewed Caleb, mentioning the players we have who came through the Crew Youth system and showing a list of our players from MLS development teams. They also asked him about Steve Zakuani, whose Seatlle Sounders happen to be playing in Columbus next weekend. Great recognition and good interview (brief and to the point) with Coach Porter. Go Zips! Edit: I'd love to hear impression of the Zips recognition/crowd response from anyone who was there. Thanks in advance.
  11. At the end of the SKC vs NY Red Bulls game tonight (Red Bulls 1, SKC 0), Teal Bunbury traded jerseys with Juan Agudelo...Teal was wearing an undershirt that clearly said in large letters so all could see and as noted by the broadcasters, "FOR STEVE ZAKUANI"
  12. The Crew will recognize the Akron Zips men's soccer team at halftime Saturday Interesting that the Crew's article fails to mention that Vancouver Whitecaps' midfielder Michael Nanchoff was a member of the 2010 National Champions. I hope Michael makes the trip even though he is still out due to his nagging injury and is able to join the Zips at halftime. Also interesting that another recruit, whose name I've not heard before will be joining the Zips this Fall: Khai Celestin - Pickerington High School Central
  13. Sounders fans' show of support planned as the game clock reaches the 11 minute mark this Saturday.
  14. Only because Michael Beaven took the time to call Steve and interview him. The BJ doesn't really care about UA Athletics.
  15. At the 8 minute mark of the Highlights video, Ampai takes a shot that is kicked out by Zarek Valentin. (Sucks that this game wasn't televised on MLS Direct Kick.)
  16. Thanks Johnny. I hope Blair makes it back soon and stays healthy for the rest of the season. I want to see him on May 28th along with Ben Zemanski and Zarek Valentin when Chivas visits the Columbus Crew.
  17. That match could be fun at Crew Stadium, too...our superior team in the backyard of blOSU and the AK-Rowdies vs the Hudson Street Hooligans.
  18. Yes, I stood in the rain and watched the soccer team play outside on Schrank Field. Are you telling me that the field in Infocision was worse than the practice field at Schrank? That is NOT good news. I can almost understand issues in the east goal at Cub Cadet Field since it is grass and was newly installed last season...they need to work out those issues. But, Summa Field unplayable in a downpour?!
  19. G Meves D Barson F Mattocks You got three. Add MF Caldwell
  20. I haven't seen Chui yet, but I think the forward spots are still open for competition.
  21. I don't understand at all. American Football has always been played in all weather conditions. There was no lightning, just some rain and it was a little cool. Why WIMP out and move indoors?!
  22. Give it time, give it time! You lose seven players on a starting soccer squad, its not so easy to recover like in other sports. The key will be how the season comes to an end, October is the time for the team to come together. +1 You don't lose 7 starters and move on as if nothing happened. These guys need time to learn to play together and Caleb needs time to understand how these guys are playing and the adjustments that he needs to make. We've been spoiled the last 2 seasons. This team still deserves our FULL support...I'm more disappointed in the fan turnout than I am in the way these guys are playing. I don't care that these are only Spring Exhibition games...players (and coaches) who work as hard as these guys and are as proud of playing for UA as these guys deserve better support even in a cool Spring rain.
  23. I hope the weather "permits" this scrimmage in Akron and the Sporting KC vs Crew match (featuring Teal Bunbury) in Columbus. Go Zips and SKC!
  24. Joe Tait said on Channel 3 News tonight (7 pm broadcast) that he will continue to be the television voice of the Mount Union Purple Raiders, and that he intends to keep on doing that job because "it's a labor of love". That's exactly how I feel about being a Zips' fan. (I no longer follow pro sports other than MLS teams with former Zips.)
