I'm with you Trimmy. "Turd" is exactly the word association I make with Akron Football this season. As for Akronad, I was always taught that "hope is not a good strategy"...Akron Football is the tried and true proof of that. It seems that's all that the powers that be do with Akron Football is hope they can find a coach, and once they select someone, hope that he can coach. Beyond the thoughtless approach to selecting a head coach, they continue to do everything they can to drive the fans away. At 5:50 pm on Tuesday evening I walked over by the North End Zone Facility area and was looking into the stadium. Although I was on the sidewalk outside of the stadium, I was told this was a closed practice and I would have to move away and not look into the stadium. Nevermind that I was dressed in full Akron gear (for the soccer game vs Michigan)... I might give away some great secret as to what they were practicing. Also, nevermind that 2 minutes later I was on the club level for the season ticket holders gathering for the soccer game and was able to look down upon the practice from there. Perhaps I misinterpreted the direction to not look into the stadium...maybe they didn't want me to get sick ( ) watching that football practice and not be able to attend the soccer game. At any rate, this treatment sure improved my interest in coming to the remaining football games, NOT!

It will be interesting to see how they fare in the game at Indiana.

Actually, I considered this as well but thought statisically the best thing to do would be to vote for Ampai and no one else. But perhaps diluting the number of votes makes it harder for other to gain on him. Or perhaps it makes 0 difference either way. Math/stats majors? I vote only for Ampai as well...once at home and once at work. It seems to me to be best to only vote for Amapai so that I'm not helping others at all.

I was also there. The 5-1 final score, in Ann Arbor, was awesome. I must admit that when the Zips defeated Michigan in the Spring at Ultimate Soccer Arenas, I remember at least 1 UM player shaking hands with 2 Rowdies on the sideline after the game and saying he would see them in Akron in the Fall. From what I could overhear, it sounded like a very classy acknowledgment of the AK-Rowdies involvement in the game vs little-to-none from his own fans (in his own state). I was one of the four ROWDIES that made the trip to Pontiac for that tournament. It ended up being a blast, especially because I won a raffle and received a Jabulani. I don't remeber a player talking to us, but there was a Michigan fan who if I recall, mentioned he played soccer with Perry at I forget what level. As the four of us walked down to our end that kid said "yeah Akron!" and high fived each of us. He came down later and asked when the rest of us ROWDIES we're going to be there haha. He was surprised to hear there were only four of us coming after all of the students that showed up last year. After chatting with us for a bit he said "well I'm gonna go back to my seat and watch you guys destroy us," then he took of the Michigan vest he had on. What a great sport. Hopefully we get a big turnout tomorrow night I could be wrong, but I swore there was a Michigan player, at the very end of the game, who walked around the right end of the field (as you faced the pitch from the seats) and stopped long enough to say he would see you in Akron in the Fall. I'm probably wrong. I did remember there were 4 of you, but I only remember 2 on the sideline when the Michigan player walked by.

A small pack of Akron enthusiasts overpowered the lethargic Michigan crowd, hooting and hollering every time the Wolverines slipped up or the Zips made a play. Unfortunately for Michigan, they had a lot to hoot and holler about. The Zips pummeled the Wolverines 5-1 in one of Michigan’s poorest performances of the season. I heard that last night, too. It was awesome. Zakuani had a great game...what moves to dribble around the goalkeeper and score that first goal. His name kept coming up, over and over. And, the crowd...the Sounders, by far, have the best fans in MLS. Sold out and most of them standing and chanting throughout the match. You could barely hear the referee's whistle at times. I would love to go to a Sounders game at Qwest Field! Seattle qualified for the MLS playoffs, by the way, and I think I heard they have the best record since July (?). That would be cool if they can keep that going in the playoffs and Zakuani and company win the MLS Cup.

I lived out of state for 11 years from June 1987 - June 1998. With much of that time being before Al Gore invented the internet , I could not easily follow the Zips. I guess that was a good thing in 1994.

You're right about Temple, but I couldn't remember if they were a "good" team at that time. They still didn't quite seem to be on par with a Tennessee or Nebraska, etc. Of course, Cowlumbus State believed it was beneath them at that time to play MAC opponents, especially those in Ohio, if I remember correctly.

I'm concerned about Meves not being in goal, but I can tell you firsthand that you could not have stood in goal at NIU and come away with a win. Poni did a great job, making a number of saves.

Having been there, it was a dirty game by a dirty team. The referee started out fine, then lost control by not making obvious calls starting about halfway through the first half. Meves was hurt by a cheap shot. Hopefully, he will be ready for the Penn State game. Poni was great. I hope the Rowdies are relentless if NIU comes to Lee Jackson Field for the MAC Tournament.

At the rate we are going, it could be ten years. I'm not over exaggerating either. I can't see myself actually giving a crap more than two more years at this rate. It's just terrible. I love UofA, but I just can't take watching/following this football team much more. I've been debating the past couple of years about what I should put my money towards at UofA. I don't see how my hard earned money given to the football program/athletic department is anything more than throwing good money down a hole. There are lots of causes at UofA I could give my money to. I'm going to have to start looking around. Have a nice evening. GP1, I agree with you concerning football. I had high hopes that a new, on-campus stadium would help U of A turn things around in football. But, for some reason, we have come full circle, bringing in coaches who have failed at Notre Dame, somehow thinking they will win at Akron . However, U of A has a good Mens Basketball team and a top notch Mens Soccer team, as well as success in other sports such as rifle and track & field. So, I wouldn't say giving your hard earned money to the athletics department is completely "throwing good money down a hole". I realize this may not mean much to you if you are totally dedicated to football, and I'm not interested in trying to convert anyone who dislikes soccer into being a soccer fan. But, at least consider that you have probably helped out (to some degree) a group of athletes who are proud to be Zips and who represent us well. So, I'll say thank you for that.
