Didn't the Zips just get the 3-seed by beating the Bob-kitties?
-
Heard of us now? We are the team that doesn't care if you heard of us or not, we win.You have to remember that outside of this board, it's Akron that no one has heard of across the country. Trust me, VCU is much more well-known then you think. We are just coming off a year where we beat DUKE, took Pittsburgh to overtime in the second round. We have a Bob Cousy Award finalist for one of the top 16 point guards in the COUNTRY. A freshmen who is the leading freshmen shot-blocker in the nation and 10th nationally. The #1 3-pt fg% defense in the country. Yeah...a lot of teams just happen to miss a lot of shots against us. Try every game. I guess we're just lucky, or we're doing something right. Oh yeah and we have Anthony Grant who is only the hottest name on every AD's list and the 2-time defending champ Florida's #1 pick to replace Billy Donovan when he almost left for the NBA. Gimme a break, what has Akron ever done in hoops??? We average 6,400 a game playing teams like Towson, William and Mary, Georgia State, and James Madison. You think we sell out our arena because of our opponents? Think again, we sell out cause of the product we put out on the floor. Just face it, people just don't give a crap about your program. Your excuses are ridiculous, yoru crowds are pathetic, and the so-called atmosphere there was equally so. That was an AVERAGE venue in the CAA, sorry to break it to you. There was NO goal-tend, I reviewed it myself. You have one gripe, and that's Rodriguez's walk. But Wood was getting away with all sorts of stuff on inside as well. We played 5 freshmen on the floor at the SAME TIME against your team for several minutes. We recruit on an entirely different level then you. We will destroy you next year.Districtballer - This post takes away any credibility that you may have had in any of your other post to this board. If you're so secure in how great VCU's program is, then why are you on here defending it by trashing us? Please take your VCU blankie and go suck your thumb in a corner somewhere little man.

This is a great thread. It is time for the coaching staff to step it up and not only make better decisions themselves, but help the players make better decisions at crunch time.

Nice posts Captain.

Don't blame it all on Dials. I didn't tape the game, but I think if you go back to sometime between the 2 and 3 minute mark, you will see the Zips shooting desperation 3-pointers when they were not yet warranted. I'm embarrassed to read some of the whining on this board. It wasn't our day. Congrats to VCU for the win and a good game. Time to move on to Buffalo and locking up a first round MAC Tournament bye.Goodbye Districtballer and good luck to VCU the rest of the season.

I agree. Our offense looked like panic/desperation with more than 2 minutes left, hoisting up 3's when they weren't yet needed. Good game; it was fun to be there; just wish the Zips had more poise at crunch time. I had a friend of mine from work with me who went to Michigan. He enjoyed the game and was really into cheering for the Zips. He thought they looked to be in desperation mode too early as well.

Akron & Ohio U control their own....
Zip_ME87 replied to Marty McFly's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I agree with all the points of view here that it would be nice to have the path of least resistance, but remember we lost to both Central and Western already this year. Plus, I'd love to see the Akron/Can't final. At this point, though, I prefer to take it one step at a time. That is, win the Buffalo game and guarantee the 1st round bye. Then worry about moving up the seeding. -

Please help me understand...why does the #3 seed matter? If you don't win the MAC regular season title, then all that really matters, IMHO, is being at least the #4 seed...i.e., the first round bye. I believe the Zips will achieve this with 1 more MAC win. Of course I want the Zips to win all of their remaining games, but I'll breathe much easier when they've guaranteed themselves no lower than the #4 seed.Winning the MAC regular season guarantees at minimum a berth in the NIT. The #2, #3, and #4 seeds in the MAC tournament, to me, are all of equal value to the team.It matters big time. Look at the side of the 4 seed and look at the side of the three seed. Would you really want to see Can't State before the championship game? Look at how it worked for Miami last year. They were in the same situation to slide through while we had Can't beating us up in the semi's. By the fourth quarter of the final game, we were dead tired. I see a similar scenario if Can't and Ohio would have to play each other. Going into the tournament as underdogs and in the 3 seed would be a potent formula for the zips.I understand the matchups. But, the way MAC teams beat up on each other, I just don't buy it. Look what happened to the Zips in 2006...should have beaten Toledo in the semis, but didn't. -

Am i the only one who did not see any dissing in district's post? :blink:I'm with you skhorbotly...I saw no dissing in District's post. In fact, I wish everyone on this board would treat posters like District as they would a guest in their home. He's shown interest in our team and maybe even in coming to our house for the game. I think we should ensure that fans like District see us at our best sportsmanship.District, I hope you make it to the JAR and have a GREAT experience with only one disappointment...i.e., the Zips defeating VCU.

I thought it was odd, too. So, I looked it up, and number of players on the field is listed as a reviewable play.

I was flying to Houston yesterday during the "late" game. So, I didn't get to see it. However, the pilot told us shortly before landing that the Giants had won. I'm rooting for the Giants just because of Hixon and Blackburn. I have no ties whatsoever to the other playoff teams. Boston has won enough (and the Celtics are doing well enough) that I don't really care so see the Pats go undefeated. Thanks for posting GP1. I was surprised that no one had posted last night. I did check out the stats last night when I got to my hotel and saw what Hixon and Blackburn had done. Hixon had one tackle, I believe. Was that on special teams?

I'm sorry you missed my point. I'm not standing up for the Buckeyes. I wouldn't do that. My point is that I know people are turned off of Akron by the negativity that some UA fans show toward Ohio State. All I'm saying is that, rather than bash OSU, point out the positives about Akron. I used to be negative about a lot of things like that until a friend of mine pointed out how much better it is to look at the positive side. I have noticed it really does go over better with other people, and I, myself, actually feel better. As far as wearing OSU gear, the last time I did that was when I took my niece (currently attending OSU) to the OSU-K.S.Ucks football game. I have numerous OSU gear in my closet, but I don't wear it (except on the 1 occasion for my niece...family matters to me above all else) ever since the Zips were denied an NIT berth last year...nor have I purchased any more. The BCS is the EVIL EMPIRE. The day of the BCS Championship game, I wore Akron colors and an Akron jacket to work. Surprisingly, no one said anything to me.

What I think many of you don't get is how much you turn off people who might become Akron fans with your incessant whining and griping about the Buckeyes. My point is celebrate the Zips and keep telling others about the Zips rather than bashing the Buckeyes. A better approach to people who wear Ohio State gear to Akron games would be to ask them why and to point out why they should wear Zips gear or at least blue or blue and gold. Introducing yourself to someone you don't know by berating them just makes them think you're an @ss.

I resent that you would even imply I went to the game in September to root for the Buckeyes. (Sure, dressed in Akron gear and sitting in the Akron section of the south stands!) I did take my niece, who is a freshman at OSU Mansfield, to her first OSU game in October. We both cheered the Buckeyes to crush the Flushes.By the way, when has Akron defeated Ohio State such that you KNOW what I would have heard from Buckeye fans in that situation? I would really like to experience that firsthand.

First off, it takes a huge lack of courage to be rude...but I'm sure the stuffed sausage man will think twice before wearing his jacket and hat to the JAR again. Bitch all you can about nobody coming to the games, then chase away those that come. BrilliantSecond, I see no problem with wearing an Ohio State jacket anywhere in the State of Ohio...if people wish to be front runners, by all means, let them be. Akron is part of OHIO. If we want to, we can go to an OSU game in Columbus and wear our Akron gear.I totally agree that being rude like that is not the way to "win friends and influence people". I don't get why anyone thinks it's okay to be rude. Did you ever think of another approach such as talking to the man about Akron and how good the basketball team is, especially given the "show" he just witnessed; then try to convince him to get some Akron gear to show pride in the local team? And for all the Ohio State bashing I hear, I don't remember getting bashed by OSU fans when I was walking to my car after the game back in September. (I was completely dressed in Akron gear.) In fact, the people who chose to speak to me mentioned how great our punter was...they chose to say something positive to me when they easily could have told me how completely inept our offense was. So, yeah, I can see why I should bash them. (I also read a lot of positive posts from OSU fans on their boards when the Zips made it to the Motor City Bowl.)Am I a huge OSU fan...no, not like I once was. (I'm a UA alum, and UA is tops over everyone.) For me, it's the BCS that I truly hate. It has totally ruined college football, and as CK pointed out last year, it is also destroying college basketball.

Play by play on ESPN.comhttp://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/playbyplay?gameId=280052006Check it out from 4:03 to 0:55 in the 1st half. McNees was AWESOME!

How about the selected QB showing that he is worthy of being the one to "run the team"? Nether CJ showed that maturity once given the job.

I don't know anything about Jordan Miller, but I think Akron teams shouldn't be concerned with red-shirting players. In my opinion, our teams should start the players that give us the best chance of winning regardless of what year they're in. Winning should be the #1 priority every year. Our coaches should have confidence that they can recruit the players that they need for the next years to come. Only when we start winning consistently and are loaded with talent should we be concerned with red-shirting.

Go Zippy and way to go ZipsNation...UNPRECEDENTED, undefeated Zippy!BTW - Zippy defeated Goldy Gopher of our favorite (NOT) conference in the final; not Hairy Dawg.

It does no good if the Zips cannot win these games (RE: collapse at Winthrop).

Absolutely why the JAR is NOT filled.

Wow, glad it was only an audio problem! (I tuned in late and thought that was the way they were broadcasting it.)

This MAC Championship Game broadcast sucks. Are the broadcasters even at Ford Field? Their microphones are not in the stadium; there is no crowd noise. This is the least exciting football broadcast I have ever heard. I thought it was good that the game was moved to Saturday so that more fans might be able to attend, but I definitely prefer the ESPN weeknight broadcasters to these guys. (Maybe what I am watching is due to technical difficulties. I sure hope so, and that future broadcasts aren't this pathetic.)Leave it to the MAC powers that be to have such a lame Championship Game!
