Agreed. I'd like a number of these type of teams mixed with a few P5 teams and then a couple of lower-tier teams.

Even though last night's game had a rough ending, I really enjoyed the ride over the last week or so. Maybe it's because my expectations were a little lower than in other years. Maybe it's the fact the Akron was playing their best basketball at the right time. Last night's game showed us something we were all concerned about - depth. To be able to complete at this level, we need another F that can rebound and score. Another G or wing wouldn't hurt either. Hopefully, we have that with next year's incoming class. If so, this team could be really special.

To do that, they need to make sure they get good looks. Move the ball around and don't force shots.

It's easy to want more when you lose in the first round, but for a team that was picked to finish last in the MAC - quite the season!

With the current team plus next year's incoming class, I'm hoping Groce would be here at least a few more years.

In 2009, we were the 5 seed. We beat #4 Miami, #1 BG, and #3 Buffalo.

In 2011, we were the 6 seed. We beat #3 Miami, #2 Western Michigan, and #1 Kent.

But the Zips are ranked outside of the top 100 in offensive and defensive efficiency, and that will not beat UCLA. Akron is ranked 321st in experience (1.2 years) in Division I. Ali Ali is the top scorer at 14.2 points per game, and Xavier Castaneda has hit 73 3s on 37.6% shooting. But John Groce's team is not quite ready to take down the Bruins.

Ali's got the tools, but he would need to make some strides over the next year or two. Whether he makes it or not, it's nice to be able to have the discussion.
