  1. It used to be called the single wing before it became fashionable again. It's cool how wikipedia gave it a whole page.
  2. A cavalier fellow calling himself "KangarooJones" with a listed name of "Mar Supial." Has started to post on the ohio bobcat's forum.http://www.bobcatattack.com/
  3. Yeah, he has been very deceptive in the past. I would call his bluff. I hope he has at least an inside straight or flush draw.
  4. I'm not a big fan of the sidelines (East/West). I like when Tuzze (5'11" 220 lbs) runs toward the end zone (North/South). Seems like we get more first downs, control the clock, and score points like that.I think I have the answer to all of our problems. We need to use Tuzze, Bowser, Torrence and Allen in the game, all at the same time. QB back play has been a negative so far this seasonOur line needs help/ trickerationWe like the shoutgun formationThe Single Wing!Features:No QB!More Runningbacks!Play series called "The Spinning fullback"!Spread offenseAll shotgun, crazy plays!Hijinks galore!
  5. I am reserving judgement until after the game. I hope the good vs good thing gets them ready to play themselves out of the corner they are in.Also, in a spread offense, you can't really use a powerback like tuzze. I do not see him beating anyone to the sidelines in the plays designed to strech out the defense.$0.02
  6. I think we need to hire an old, no-nonsense, grizzled coach. Recruit samoan linemen and find a middle aged farmer QB with a year or two of eligibility remaining. The undoubtable issues he has to work out will help bring the team together over the course of the season. Then, through in some ninja linebackers, and an extra lady or two from the Akron soccer team, and I think we have a recipe for success in 2010**edit** I think Rob schneider is available for in-game commentary
  7. Well then call me a fool g-mann. I'm ready for JD to be gone. Period. You have to be kidding about recruitment, as if there isn't already a ton of uncertainty surrounding this program as it spirals into the crapper. You think any potential signee, or hell, any kid in the program, can't see the writing on the wall? Some will leave when JD leaves, some will come when he leaves. Besides, are you happy with the recruits and the program we're seeing right now, with a couple possible exceptions? STZRecruits do see the writing on the wall. Mainly:1) New Stadium2) Newish indoor practice facility3) Head Coach that is excited to have you come visit. JD is really outgoing and pulls recruits from everywhereFor all the teams we want to be like as far as record and fan support go(OSU, Mich, Texas, hell CM) there are many more like us (spotty records and small fan-bases. The recruiting will turn around as a result of the investments made and stable coaching at the top.Something is broke this year. If it is not fixed and this team continues to spiral, he deserves to get canned. But optimists were the only ones saying Akron would be better than 1-3 at this point. Let him have the rest of the season to get these kids ready for the rest of their careers here and to install a little fight in their play on the field.
  8. We have a special team now...Akron is ranked in the 80s and below nationally in all cateogories except punting, total pass defense and punt returns. Some highlights for you:Total Offense 114Total Defense 84Rush Offense 88Rush Defense 95Pass Offense 107Pass Defense 55On the plus side, Brian Wagner is tied for 8th nationally in total tackles and tied for 3rd in solo tackles.
  9. He will get better. Remember the glimpses we saw of him? Remember how the coaches kept throwing him in during Jac's 2009 season? He can be good. He may require a few things first. Time in the pocketRunning gameComprehensive offensive strategyGive him a few games. We will win a game here and there. The easy part of the schedule is here, now. Let's hope something works out.
  10. Do not fire JD.The offense needs to figure out a way to stay on the field and give the Defense a break. That contributed alot to the lopsidded numbers CMU put up against our defense. Note that we had stuffed Cotton most of the game. If this keeps up, and the defense keeps playing 1.5 games of football every time they step on the field, then you are going to see more tired defensive play and more injuries accumulate. I want to run the ball at people. I want a fullbacklined up in front of Torrence, and handoff to the side of the formation with a Tight End. Nothing could be better to soothe the lineman's frayed ego's than a crushing, run-orientated attack.
  11. I give Rogers a pass. First game and he got his bell rungI am sure if you have those flowery memmories of Jac, they could easily be tarnished by watching another of his poor performances again.Rogers has definately got skills. We all saw them in the preseason and glimspes here and there. I hope he comes around and gets it done in-conference.
  12. Its not that he made some bad decisions, its that he neglected to make any decisions at all. Every single time he would drop back, he would jitter around, then dump it off to a back. After a few of those, he would build up the confidence to force the ball over the middle, into the waiting arms of a Hoo Hoo Hoosier. I was pulling for this guy since the spring game. I am hoping that another week with the starter mentality will be a cure all. He played like a heady kid whenever he was inserted into the offence. He needs to turn it around. This offence needs to air it out.
  13. New Zips fanPlan on tailgating with 10-14 other newbs. It sounds like I am looking for lot 34 or 73. Can anyone give me more precise directions as I am not familar with the campus area. Also, when is everyone else throwing down. I was planning on arriving @ noon. Good plan?
  14. Too late! Excellent. the meme lives on...
  15. They run, we pass. If they don't limit our possessions and the defense does their job keeping their running game to more 3-and-outs than not, then i think it has a chance of being a blowout. As far as comparisons go, it is a reach, but look at what position the NO Saints put their opponents in. We have the right kind of mix this year to force teams into being one dimensional.
  16. This is big.Brian Wagner is MAC defensive player of the weekAnd he turns 20 tomorrow. Hell-of-a birthday big guy!
  17. Is he switching back to offense?i got it backwards. newb...
  18. I believe you are correct. Penn State used a very lopsided battle of field position to exploit our defense and put up big points early.it just goes to show how much the defense feeds off the offense. As a new fan, I picked up on the sentiment our past defense's evoked. The trend is there 2 games in for a new direction. We are +3 in turnover margin I think
  19. I think we should feel confidant. Rasor made good points in his post yesterday.Offense... King Koopa Bowser is performing and our other wideouts with the return of Jones make for a formidable threat. The twin QB attack is working for now. Rodgers is very exciting.Defense...6 quarters of shutout football. They have looked good against the run and have created turnovers.Speaking of our defense, how many drives (60-70 yards marches) have really been successful against them this year? I think Penn state had 1-2. Their field position was crazy and scored mostly on the short field right?
  20. do not purchase the streaming video solution offered by Akron via JumpTV for live events. the game was offered in two streams. One audio one video. You could only use one at a time. It costs $10 per month and was very low quality. It skipped constantly and would time out. The game looked awesome though from what i could tell. I wish I could have been there.
  21. 32 yard int return for a TD helps make him look better in my eyes. 6 points is very sexy.
  22. Not to be picky, but you left off the spring game.fixedThanks
  23. For those organized out there i created a public google calendar for all of Akron's football games. It's in the iCal format so it is portable between OSes and applications. Here you go
  24. Can someone post the videos to youtube? The website does not agree with my linux and requires Windows Media player even though it is flush based.
  25. Welcome to the club Blue & Gold. I was the first to say it years ago on this board. Until last season, we had to hear on this board that the center was just as important as the QB or the old lie that "defense wins championships". That's all nonsense. The QB has to be a winner in addition to being good. Just look at recent history in the NFL and you can see how important the QB is to turning around a team:Cowboys: Bledsoe (sp?) to Romo...Cowboys turn around their team and now have one of the most exciting QB is the league.Patriots: Bledsoe to Brady...Patriots become the best team in history.Steelers: The pile of junk that played between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger to Roethlisberger...The Steelers go from a team on the brink of disaster each week to a legit. winner.Colts: Pile of Junk to Manning...A solid team and World Champion.Browns: The change to DA was the best thing to happen to that franchise since the great bottle throwing incident where "only a few fans" threw 20,000 urine filled bottles onto the field. Those five or six guys must have really been drinking a lot that day.The other great lie in football is that you need a great offensive line to win. Joe Montana won a lot of games with the 49ers early in his career with an offensive line that could at best be described as average. Montana never once had what would be considered a great line.Your analogy to other sports was right on the money. In team sports, not every player is equally important as every other player. The baseball analogy was perfect as a pitcher can dominate a game. In the NBA, it is the center that is most important. In football, it is the QB. In hockey, it is the center. We badly need a QB next year.I disagreeYou are plucking select situations and twisting them to your point.Romo: Bledsoe's career was declining and the Dallas defense accelerated its development under ParcelsMontana: The "average" line was more than sufficient to accommodate the innovation that was the west coast offense under Bill Walsh. It helped that he threw Rice.Browns: DA could not have stepped into a better situation for a starting QB. Low expectations, excellent receievers with experience thrown in, a revamped line, and and one of the most preeminent offensive minds in the NFL with Chudzinski.Qbs are no more important to the team than the larger than average defensive lineman who only plays in running situations. Everyone does their part in the system.
