Tressel Never Quit Recruiting Howard
cornbread replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
This conversation is going to go nowhere. We obviously have a different set of morals. I wonder how Tom Brady's life would be different if he got his high school girlfriend pregnant in high school instead of a super model after an established NFL career? I dont know but i'm sure it would be very different. I agree with Buckzip on this one. I agree.... I bet Tom Brady had a much better time with his female counterparts than Howard did with Akron's finest. FTW -

High School grades? I question the authenticity of the North American high school in question. This? or this? -
According to Rasor, Shaun Lemon will transfer
cornbread replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think this is the type of off-season action that we will quickly forget about, until something happens to make us remember it. Situations like: One of our ends keeps getting driven to the ground by a tight-end. No sacks or QB pressure for an entire game Something "bad" happens to more of our ends Let's hope none of those things happen, and that we never have to remember the surname Lemon. Except of course under completely different circumstances... -
you know what, now that LeFevour is no longer a MAC rival, I wish him the best of luck. How lucky to be able to play for the team you grew up watching. I expect him to compete for Cutler's starting position within a couple years, especially if Cutler has a year like he did last year. I don't understand why guys are making fun of him here. We should want conference members to make it to the NFL. It brings cred to the MAC. We need all the cred we can get the MAC. So do you root for #7 from Pittsburgh? 2x Rapist, 1x motorcycle stunt man, all-time douchebag no, but I don't dislike him because he is from the MAC. I dislike him because of his character. I dislike him too. I also know my Steelers need him to win. I'll take winning over losing...it makes the fall go faster. There is a writer for the Post-Gazette in Pittsburgh that wroted a good article this week about the long term disaster that would be getting rid of Ben. His name is Ron Cooke and he wrote the article on Friday (I think). What day did you readed it? Took me awhile to find it

There are facets of the libertarian mindset that should guide and inform policy decisions. But no taxes, no department of education, no IRS may sound very appealing, but it is no way to be a leader in the world. That is a belief that has been refuted by millions of years of fossil records. Truth and Spaghetti Monster-ism. RAmen.

Rasor is not patiently waiting for iCoach to rebuild the team in his image. Check out these ratings: Quarterback — Outlook: Bright Running back – Outlook: Very bright Offensive line — Outlook: Bright Wide receiver — Outlook: Dim Special teams — Outlook: Mixed Defensive line — Outlook: Very bright Linebacker – Outlook: Blindingly bright Cornerback — Outlook: Bright Safety — Outlook: Very dim Overall – Outlook: Bright Two positions, Safety and WR do not excite Rasor. Since he does get to see more games than most of us and he has been covering them for awhile, should we begin to drink the Kool-Aid now. Is this forecast something to believe in? Or is it just spring ball hype?

I bet University of Phoenix has a potent air attack. And NO LEAD would be safe with them. They have an accelerated degree program in Business and Kicking Ass

His momma called him Cassius, I'm gonna call him Cassius. hahahaha Big Ten (11) to potentially add more than one team That could open a few spots for Akron to move on up. Just to play devils advocate could expansion of the Big10 be a bad thing for Akron...Im just saying we seem to have the worst luck sometimes. Let say the Big10 expanse with 3 or 5 teams, they raid the Big East leaving the conference with about 5 teams.....Conference USA and The MAC have 12 and 13 teams respectively. What if CUSA and the MAC stand their ground and and BIG East becomes defunct (It has happened before...see Big West). Now we are playing with West Virginia, UConn in our Conference, Cincinnati, Louisville, South Florida go BACK to Conference USA, etc. We could be looking at a situation that would probably push us down in the final conference standings! Any thoughts? In the long run.... i would have to argue for the AWESOMENESS of your idea. The level of competition would be great. You know what they say about a rising tide...

Do You Support Obama's Healthcare Legislation?
cornbread replied to InTheZone's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
It's in 'off topic...' section. And it is...off topic. I'm amazed that anybody can have such an opinion/understanding of the economic ramifications of a 2800 pg health care bill. Good for you guys. I have a hard enough time figuring out what kind of offense our basketball team runs. I'm really looking forward to the ZN debate on religion in next months poll entitled 'Religion, Which One is Right'. I think it is a good step. Health care should be and now is a right. Sorry you rich people had your taxes go up. Sucks. But at least now that everyone will be forced to be covered, the insurance industry will concentrate on controlling costs to profit and not finding more ways to screw you out of medical care. You know what I'm sorry about? I'm not rich, so my "taxes" didn't go up. But it is an objective fact that everyone that currently has health insurance will see their premiums go up. That sucks the big one considering how crazy costs already are. Yeah. It sucks. Overall the companies have to play nice, or they can be left out of the pool that will end up covering everyone. That is considered a pretty profitable pool(mostly it skews to be young w/ little health issues). In the end, and this is an admittedly bad argument... it is just money. They print more of it everyday. You may not personally know anyone who ends up getting their healthcare from this bill, but the ones who do all have families and friends, jobs, spouses, kids, etc. This is the only way of getting everyone healthcare in the current political environment. I agree the way of funding it is not the best choice. There are solutions to the left and the right of what Obama did. But they did get done what needed to be done. As far as your premiums go, from what I read, they should stop going up at the current rate of increase. They will still go up but the increase should be lower than the rate of inflation after everyone is covered in 2014. With everyone in the system, including all the healthy people that didn't have ins in the past, risk can be more evenly spread. my 0.03 cents -
Focused marketings was a good point. With all of the tools available today, it isn't hard to target groups of people. Plus it is cheaper and more effective. For example google adwords can be focused on a radius by street addy, zip code. If you are targeted a specific demographic, and you know where they live, your google adwords map can look like the after effects of a shotgun blast. The problem is deciding on who it is you want to target and how you want to do it. Marketing to niche-demographics is exploding. Twitter just added advertising. I wonder how much it will cost to advertise on twitter.com/kentstateuniv about Akron's academic offerings?

Check it out here Guy makes some great points. I appreciate how he finds a logical/ non-religious basis for being empathetic/observational and how it helps him in creating the best TV show out there.

Sometimes when a person is wrong, they should just admit they are wrong and just move on. Digging the hole deeper is not the best thing to do. I guess I don't know how to respond. Your years of trolling exp are showing their worth. By not addressing the point I made, and progressing right to a disparaging remark, you are successfully creating an illusion of authority. Good show. Any QBs or Coaches in here know what I am describing? Taking snaps over center makes it easier to decipher the defense. I was pretty sure that was common knowledge among the football proletariat. All 6' of Drew Brees knows what I am talking about.

That's because football has become a passing game with the QB in the shotgun. The game moves too fast to put the QB under center unable to focus downfield. Nope. I think Lee Corso has had too large an influence on your football knowledge. The are disadvantages and advantages to both. For example, the QB gets a better read on the secondary when under center as opposed to being in the shotgun. So you are saying a QB gets a better read hunched over with his hands on the sweaty ass of a center than he does standing erect in the backfield with a wider range of vision? It's amazing anyone would even type that. If that was the case, wouldn't every QB have his hands under center on 3rd and 10 so he could get a better read instead of in the shotgun...they could always run that play action fake on 3rd and 10 running from under center. We all know how well that works. Are you also saying football has not become a passing game? That would sort of fly in the face of reality. Football has not just become a passing game, the rule changes have made it so you almost have to pass to take advantage of them. Not sure where the Lee Corso comment comes from. When you are under center, it is harder for the defense to disguise their coverage. You don't have the line standing up immediately to block your field of view. Shotgun has obvious advantages for the pass game. Lee Corso has tormented video game players for years with his crazy in-game commentary in NCAA football.

If you go back and read some of my posts from when the stadium was built, I predicted this would happen rapidly. The problem is they installed the concrete during the winter, which is the worst time possible to pour concrete. If I remember right, it was extemely cold when they poured it a couple of winters ago. Some cracking should be expected during the first year as the structure settles, but large scale replacement should not be required. I'm sure the subcontractor who installed the concrete has a trail of letters they wrote about pouring concrete in the winter protecting them from lawsuits. The pressure to get this job done on time was pretty big. Contractors know risk and when a problem will happen so they protect themselves. Contracting is actually a form of legalized gambling. You gamble on material costs, labor, weather, etc. There are three ways to get a construction project: good, fast and cheap. What most people don't understand is you can only get two of them. The stadium was finished fast and cheap ($64 million really isn't that much). Because of that, some problems should have been expected. There are probably more problems out there waiting to happen, but drywall covers up a lot of potential problems until they show themselves and it is too late. In gerneral, the stadium is probably an extremely safe place, there were just some things that had to be rushed and now they have to fix those things. It should have been expected. It is disheartening to know that the project has started to disintegrate before completion. Looking at the bright side, maybe tickets in the effected areas can be sold at a premium with the claim that the ticket holder will be seated in the Rubber Bowl Commemorative area. Things happen at big construction projects all the time. The Bengals stadium was plagued with cracking concrete immediately after it was built. They fix things and maintenance is budgeted for annually. This is a non-issue.

Zips sign Deangelo Williams
cornbread replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
did they sign him or is he going to be a walk on. seems very small for that position, and his speed isnt very good either. His 40, broad jump, short shuttle, and 3 cone are all awful. And he has no size whatsoever. Reminds me of a great movie quote... "You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself. And after what you've gone through, if you haven't done that by now, it ain't gonna never happen. Now go on back." Let's hope this guy is just a natural football player who had some bad combines. Or let's hope he busts his balls and provides a great look on the scout team for the next 5 years. That looks to be his role. I bet he has a great personality. I look forward to the positive effects on the team his young-man-snarl will bring. GO ZIPS!
