  1. Look what happens when the Tea Party meets a real liberal. Rand Paul had said in an interview with a newspaper that the Civil Rights bill was flawed and that he would not have voted for it. He breaks it down a little more here. It still sounds bad.
  2. A picture of Darth pouring salt water, its’ meaning to me - speculative fodder. The questions been posed, schedule tough or schedule easy, the debate to this point leaves me feeling quite queasy. Perhaps it means if you’re in it knee deep, You better bail fast - what you sow you will reap. FTW
  3. What does it matter? It's the posted topic...... I don't want to get generational with you here. You seem like a hip young cat out on the prowl. But the kids these days have a saying. "Don't be a playa hater" It is a good schedule. Most people seem to agree. And you seem angry at everybody and everything. Mad at Buffalo, mad at zipsnation, even angry with Canada and upstate NY.
  4. What does it matter? What do you see in the picture below?
  5. What does that mean? Picture is funny to me. What does it mean to you?
  6. Isn't that what the Zips are doing this season? It is the dream come true about to become a nightmare. UofA plays an even more difficult schedule than UB does. We play a I-AA team, they play a I-AA team. We play IU and KY on the road, they play two BCS teams on the road. We play Syracuse at home, they play UCONN at home (both Big East teams). We will go 1-3 with our ooc and they will go 1-3. I can't believe some of you who think UofA should schedule up would also complain about the schedule we play and actually think UB is better scheduling than us. Can you make sense of this picture for me? You seem to find meaning and order where I dare not look.
  7. 5-3 in conference is better than average. It is still very difficult to argue with numbers. I think that momentum is important, but facing good competition is better. That Penn State trip was fun. Sucks we lost. Cool to see where we stacked up.
  8. You do realize they were only an FBS starting in 2000 right? so your points wan an FCS team that moved up was a doormat from 2000-2006? 2007 5-3 conference 2008 5-3 conference 2009 3-5 conference Now UB may fall back to six years of doormat status but I really doubt it... And if they do it will have nothing to do with the fact our non-conf is hard.. It is hard to argue with numbers.
  9. Congrats to Rand Paul. Ron's kid is now the Republican Senate Candidate in Kentucky. Hope this fires up liberals in KY to put up a fight for the Democrats but still, a good night for the Tea Party.
  10. Just so you know, ISP is in charge of getting ads on the score board, not marketing the games. The site made it seem like more. I guess their scope is narrower than I had thought. So who is the man/woman at the reins of the Akron marketing campaign? The position is a high-profile role. Often the head of this department wears multiple hats in the university's management of its public image. They have to proactively spearhead advertising campaigns, while working with internal contacts for relevant tie-ins and promotions. Internal contacts can be in the anywhere from the Athletics department to the Zoology department. Often, it is like setting out on fishing expedition, but undecided on major decisions like the type of fish to catch, what equipment you will be using, and what time period you will be gone. You can see this outstanding individual below fulfilling one of the marketing departments many gameday roles, traffic direction.
  11. Your crystal ball is not working correctly. Plus, no schedule is "designed to teach a team how to lose." Jeez. With dramatic overtures like that, shouldn't you be on Fox News or MSNBC whining about the last huge insult to your party? Or was that the plot line to the next Major League sequel? This makes me happy. Maybe it will work for you.
  12. It is the rule writer's fault. They went wrong in a few places. Why not leave the decision to disqualify up to the officials on hand? Why not go into more depth about what disqualifying jewelry is? For example, in baseball for obvious reasons, the pitcher cannot have anything "white" on his glove. This is any color approaching white, etc. Sometimes we miss it at the beginning of games. If it is called to our attention, we have a few choices, and we make a decision. Usually, the game is stopped while the kid grabs another glove. No big deal and it doesn't affect the integrity of the game. I cannot see how a friendship bracelet affects the integrity of pole vaulting. But no jewelry is still a rule. The officials are there to enforce rules. Rules are rules. 3 outs is rule. No jewelry and no white on the glove are rules. You can't parse the intent of rules during games, just call them as you see them. I bet it gets rewritten. It is a bad situation, but I cannot find fault with someone who knows the rulebook. Sucks for the girl and her team. I bet the affected coach reads the rulebook next year. disclaimer: Was a coach and an umpire
  13. That was me. You missed my point.
  14. thats a good question. is it a state of mind? a commitment? I think a fair weather fan jumps from team to team depending on whats going on. A fan will stick around through a few bad years but after sometime of no improvement and no sign of hope will stop spending money on the team (maybe check some scores or go to a game when they come across some free tickets during those down times) and then there are the die hards that will support a team and spend money on said team even if they are, well......... I like the Tribe even when they suck. I might switch between their game and the news more often though during seasons like these... I think it is self-aggrandizing to rake management decisions over the coals endlessly, then only to end with, "I am not giving them my money/ not fan anymore." Being a fan should not be defined by money changing hands or how frequently it happens. Like them because you have always liked them. Like them because your dad did. Like them for the guys they kept around instead of the guys that got let go. Like them because when they almost win, but find a way to lose, you find a sliver-lining. (Carmona is looking good this year, eh?) When you guys drone on about "They did this, and they didn't do that, so I am not a fan," it just makes me tune out your rationale. Why personalize it? You're not a Hafner fan, you're a tribe fan.
  15. Everyone is denying everything right now. Schools are being offered now and they have the cover of secrecy until everything gets worked out. But secretaries and interns still work and take calls... the underlings know something is up and word is getting out.
  16. This is a tired old excuse that carries very little merit. The fact is, Mark Shapiro is incompetent. The team can't draft, overpays for washed up has-beens (the latest, Russell Branyon), and pays big money to sign free agents to platoon (ie Dave Dellucci in 07). The coaching at the major league and AAA level is horrible, year in and year out the Aeros are a threat to win the title. Yet by the time these guys make it to Cleveland, they act like the simplest fundamentals are beyond them. I don't hear anyone in Tampa Bay whining about the salary disparity. Florida has two rings. Arizona has one, St Louis has one. Colorado went. It's all just an excuse for an owner who doesn't want to invest in a real management and a real roster who can win, even though this market has proven over and over it will support a winner. I do support the pro and college teams teams who at least try. Once the football team melted down last season, I was done. I put all of my support on a program that deserved it so much more, the soccer team. I refuse to waste time and money on a circus run by clowns. Now this year, I'll start supporting the "new" football program (and the "new" Browns) unless they prove they don't deserve it. But the Indians? They're dead to me. It's much more fun right here in Akron at Canal Park. So you are a fair weather fan?
  17. Im still a fan. You have a good point. I live for years like the 07 season. That was fun. And our division looks winnable. The twins are good but not that good. A mediocre May and a good June puts us back in the mix.
  18. Akron's ratings in NCAA2010 were in Overall C-, Offense C, Defense C- Ratings for all teams here Due to a poor season last year, I don't think they move much. Maybe a lower rating overall.
  19. That was funny... I really miss the good Indians too. This team sucks. I hate seeing what this team could have been. It seems like every 4-5 good players out there on other teams have Cleveland ties.
  20. alright, ill bite. am I missing something here? Were you at the spring game? I would assume not... Some of the stadium was not in the best repair. The topic was covered ad nauseum here
  21. Yes for sure, ive seen pics on fan sites let me look for them. edit* now that i think about it, it was just artwork...still cant find it though. btw, we weren't the only school to have their new stadium excluded from last years game. TCF Bank Stadium (Minnesota) wasn't in last year either, they usually dont include stadium changes until the following year. It doesnt help that schools are usually getting the stadium finished a month or two before the season starts. The game is pretty much done at that point and going through debugging. Plus they have no reference for how the stadium looks with people in it. I think the grassy area behind the endzone and the brick wall will look pretty neat marching down the field.
  22. Akron also won the GMAC bowl over Houston 30-16. MAC was 3-1 in bowl games *sigh* What do you think some of our players ratings will be this year? I had to create Nicely, Wagner, and upgrade Rodgers and Bowser to satisfy my dynasty.
  23. This guy is in the same boat. I won't waste my vote on either of them.
  24. No no no We'll build a bridge out of them.
