  1. WMU lost again tonight at BGSU. Did Frenchy know this when he made the comment?
  2. not sure what your spread was but the Zips didn't cover the 9 points I saw. Ugly game but honestly I didn't see the Zips playing that bad. Careless, but not bad. A lot of Abreu's turnovers were due to his trying to be too flashy.
  3. Good call- I couldn't remember the other team with 14 in a row. By comparison, the Grizzlies of Montana are #131 in the BPI and #120 in the RPI.
  4. @DiG I love that you cite TeamRankings.com. I discovered the site last week and have been checking out as much as I can on it. It has some great stuff. If you go to their Bracketology trends, the first list is "Odds To Get An NCAA Bid -- Biggest Gain Since Yesterday" in which Akron is the 4th team on the list, with an increase from 79.3% to 80.5% in the last 24 hours.
  5. FWIW, the team with the second longest active winning streak in the nation, Memphis, has moved up to #22 in the AP Top 25 this week. The Tigers currently sit one game behind the Zips with 14 active wins in a row. They too have faced some difficult wins including a 1 point victory over Marshall at home a few weeks ago. They are ranked 35th in the RPI and 31st in the BPI. They beat OU 84-58 in Memphis on December 15.
  6. Here's something to consider. Was Drexel being heralded as a potential Cinderella team during the middle of the season? This Zips team has been receiving national publicity as a team that could make a run in the NCAA tourney. They are on the radar of many national media members. At the very least we will be mentioned as a snubbed team. But then again, that doesn't matter much.
  7. Those of you who are freaking out about the Coastal Carolina loss might want to think again. I was watching the St John's vs Syracuse game today and one of the announcers mentioned about how Miami could possibly receive a 1 seed in the NCAA tourney. The other announcer cited the fact that they have losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Indiana State(pardon me if those two are wrong). The first announcer said that it shouldn't matter since that was early in the season and they were missing one of their star players, and that improvement should play into seeding. Now I know that seeding is different than an at–large bid, but let's not forget that the CC game was the first game of the year and we lost in overtime without two very solid players in Tree and Harney.
  8. FWIW, Detroit and Princeton both lost today as favorites. Princeton was favored by double digits and fell at home. Western Michigan also suffered their first MAC loss outside of OU and Akron while falling by 3 to Ball State in Muncie. Did I mention they too were favored? Bad day to be Akron's former foes.
  9. this. The proof is in the pudding. OU is a good team, and we played great. CMU and Miami are 2 of the worst teams in the MAC and it took a huge effort to win.
  10. ZIPS.... DO NOT TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS!! 9-0 run gives the Zips the lead for the first time in a loooooooong time. Gotta keep it going!
  11. Zips are testing my faith right now. Miami is penetrating at will.
  12. Alex is playing horrible today. Not even making an attempt to stay in front of his man on D. Zips will not continue to go 2-15 from the field. This game will be won or lost on the defensive end.
  13. We will get our crap together in the second half. Coach D will light a fire under their butts in the locker room. They definitely have the talent to blow this team out in the second half. They just need to realize it and do what makes them great.
  14. Zips must have seen something in the tape because they are trying to go for the steal almost every time. Mia on an 11-1 run.
  15. Thankfully Walsh came to play. 7 of the Zips' 9 points. How is Miami getting so many boards early!?
  16. Miami is starting out very nervous. Zips need to come out of this time out and play smart tough ball
  17. I chuckled to myself with Alex's line... “We’re very big in the gym,” point guard Alex Abreu said. “Except for me and coach D.” Love this team.
  18. Don't look now, but NDSU just slipped up against conference foe, Oakland(whom OU beat earlier this season 78-61) on the road, 66-63. NDSU was favored by 4 points.
  19. maybe hoping to light a fire under our butts like the loss of power helped SF sunday?? But lets hope for a better outcome than they had. Zips with way too many turnovers. And as I type this Alex gets a pretty bucket and alley-oop to Harney. He really is the key to our success.
  20. ESPN's Miles Simon gives Akron a vote in ESPN's Power Rankings http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...ngs/_/show/last
  21. I actually understand his point.... to an extent. To get respect, you have to earn it. Our program as a whole hasn't really done anything extravagent to earn that respect. However, how has the 2012-2013 Akron Zips Men's Basketball team not earned some respect? 13 wins in a row is impressive. Whipping last year's MAC Cinderella story by 14 points(regardless of the location) when they return all 5 of their starters is enough to earn respect. So yes, right now, we deserve respect.
  22. They can call us Hashtag Community College for all I care. It still doesn't change the fact that we #waxedthefloor with their assets last night! #sorelosers
  23. would be surprised to not see the Zips get some top 25 nods after beating ESPN lovechild Ohio U by 14.
  24. Zips only up 10 with 1:35 left
