I'm not really sure how I feel about it quite yet. You're worth whatever someone will pay you, right? I don't see many players really making meaningful dollars off of this. I mean maybe what, 10-15 are really nationally relevant year to year. Though then you can cross the line into "pay to play" if the rates get egregious.. Glad I'm not the one making the rules!

Very few of these guys are going to make enough off of their likeness to exceed the scholarship amount they are given. These kids aren't even allowed to work part time jobs, what's the big deal with them earning some extra cash on the side? I had academic scholarships, should I have forfeited those when I earned money from my part time job?

I don't see that having any effect really. When you schedule 7 years in advance you don't know which of those buckets you'll be in.

I would love to get more of these teams on the regular schedule and have tournaments with a chance for an upset of a bigger name, but I can't complain about getting some solid games on the schedule. I like seeing how we stack up against the other respectable mid-majors

Okay you're Toledo's AD - why would you play Akron every year? I think it's a great idea as evidenced by UNC and Wake last year. But.. what's in it for Toledo?

Adding credence to an official rivalry with a 1-AA school is not a good look imo

D2 would be a bigger savings, coaches salaries would decrease drastically, scholarship costs would be way down. But I just can't see a team in D2 with our facilities. Would be insanely out of place

Serious but not serious. Break off from the NCAA with them and call ourselves the D2 of the new league below the P5 and have promotion/relegation. Not that they'd go for it. But hey

Let's talk numbers. What are the football cost savings in dropping down? Coaches salaries, scholarships, maybe less travel (I find it hard to see less travel than the MAC in any level really).. What else am I missing here.. The stadium and the debt service costs ain't going anywhere. Do those cost savings of maybe 2 million make up for losing buy games, TV revenue and the sponsors we'll lose? I just am unsure if dropping down a level is some magic wand.
