  1. FS Ohio's Zac Jackson has been tweeting his conversation with Dambrot. Provides a little more context for some of the things. Also, I's pretty sure he's Josh Egner's uncle or something.

  3. I bet there were more people at this event than were at our last football game.
  4. According to CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman, Michael Green has transferred to Chaminade. I'll leave it up to Z.I.P. to figure out how this kid ended up on the east side of Honolulu.
  5. Saw a picture, and the field house looked packed.
  6. Maybe we should think of doing something similar, given our athletic department's prevalent use of Twitter. How would a "#GoZips" look on Summa Field? I would make sure it's temporary, though. Given how quickly things change on the internet, Twitter could become a ghost town once the next big thing happens, like what happened to MySpace.
  7. Good to see that it sold out. This is probably the first real test of how well the Bowden name draws in this area. The spring game will be a much bigger test, but this is a very good sign.
  8. If you like baseball, you'll like this story. Pretty cool that it all got started in Akron. This city seems to be full of stories like this, hidden away and forgotten where other places would trumpet them in self-congratulation until we were sick of hearing about it.
  9. Things have been fairly quiet recently, aside from the Sun Belt picking up a noncompetitive Georgia State (a strange move considering that they have far better programs like Appalachian State and Georgia Southern beating down their doors to try and get in). A few things to note recently: The CAA was supposed to hold a vote to raise their exit fee, but couldn't even get half their presidents to dial in to the conference call. It's an indication that a schools like James Madison and Old Dominion could be looking to make a jump. The MAC is quietly going about its business, but there was a rumor a few days ago about Appalachian State saying they had talked to the MAC about becoming the 14th football member. They have far more name recognition than JMU or ODU, but I feel like it's not as likely as some other scenarios. There has also been some low rumblings that Akron, Ohio, and Toledo have put their names out to Conference USA / the Alliance. Nothing really substantial, but why would people associated with schools that have no familiarity with Akron mention our name if there wasn't something of substance there?
  10. How many years would this guy have? Only one or two, right? Not that it matters. After going 5-31 the last three years, you need to take chances on kids if they can play. That's he's local should help. Maybe coming back home is what he needs to get back on track.
  11. If they didn't see benefits that outweigh the costs, they wouldn't do it. Can you put a price on national name recognition or on pull within the state legislature?
  12. Tennis signs recruit from PA. Probably the longest article on tennis recruiting I've ever read. Lots of good things to say about Akron.
  13. I think that gives us 6 commitments for the class of 2012. With four seniors graduating and a sophomore PG transferring out, look for one more player to transfer unless we were already under the scholarship limit. Class of 2012: Signed: 6' 0" F Katie Nunan, Fairmont HS, West Virginia 5' 11" G DiAndra Gibson, Ravenna HS, Ohio 6' 1" C Jasmine Wood, Waverly HS, Michigan Verbal (will sign soon): 5' 9" PG Megan Barilla, Magnificat HS, Ohio Anita Brown, Warren HS, Ohio Transfer: 6' 2" DeAnna Thompson, Vincennes Junior College
  14. I agree. With the exact same talent, a coach capable of making sound decisions gets at least three wins last year.
  15. If Moore, Pohl, and Williams are all equal at the end of camp, I would want to see Pohl get the starting job because the potential for him to grow and learn from game experience is higher.
  16. It has better be our seniors: Zeke, Quincy, and Chauncey.
  17. A good t-shirt is something you can wear even when you are away from its intended area of use. It's the reason I hate when they give away t-shirts with a specific date on them (referencing the event you're at, which makes it out of date and pointless the moment you walk out of the event). A solid, simple design that conveys the general idea of whatever it is you're designing for without being too specific or too generic (moderation is key) is what to shoot for. Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is that a good, not-embarrassing-to-wear design should be elegant. These shirts are anything but.
  18. No, but they were the designs that were conservative enough for the administration to feel safe about using.
  19. OSU's old football coach?
  20. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/in...knows_ther.html Plenty of room for incoming transfers and late signees with only 65 scholarship players (equal to an FCS team).
  21. I'm in general agreement with the rest of what you said, but I don't believe this one bit. If he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid coach in the MAC, then who do you think should be paid higher?
  22. I think it's the Browns effect.
  23. You couldn't pay me $5 million to live in Pittsburgh.
  24. Coach Dambrot has a show on STO during basketball season. I'm saying that if coach Bowden is thinking of doing something similar (I don't know that he is, or if the AD would push for something), he could ask Dambrot if he thinks the show is worth doing or what kind of things are involved. I know that Bowden is no stranger to being on TV, but the issue would be the time involved compared to how much of a benefit a show would be to the football program.
