  1. With the win, Serbia is the two-time world champion in this event. They also made it to the finals in 2007 but lost to Lithuania. They have an extraordinarily talented and well-coached team. Many of the players on Serbia's team are professionals in Europe that also happen to attend a university. That Nik was even chosen to be on the team is impressive. Nik not playing much is unfortunate, but I would rather him play for a championship team than one that was knocked out in the first round limiting his practice time. He is training with great players every day and is getting some top-notch coaching. This should also help him when it comes time to play professionally.
  2. Looks like Nikola will get his game in against a Canadian college team after all, as Serbia has made it into the finals and will face Canada for the championship. It's great for Nik to get this far. He's getting in a lot of training that he would have otherwise missed out on. To make it to the finals means that he has had several weeks of extra training that he wouldn't have gotten if they got knocked out in the first round. It also speaks to the kind of team he's training with and their talent level.
  3. Trolling is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. This may be behind a moving boat, or by slowly winding the line in when fishing from a static position, or even sweeping the line from side-to-side, e.g. when fishing from a jetty. Trolling is used to catch pelagic fish such as salmon, mackerel and kingfish.
  4. Terry Pluto mentions the Zips in his column about the Indians. I'll keep my mouth shut about what I think of his columns, but the more pre-season hype we can build in the area the better.
  5. Somewhere from 0-12 to 3-9. MAC teams just love to beat themselves with dumb mistakes, and if we're lucky that will happen once or twice to our opponents. of course, with our coaches' playcalling we'll be on the losing end of that more often than the winning side.
  6. Thanks for the rundown, johnny. Here is the ABJ's article. I will give Ianello until saturday to declare the starter at QB. It looks like the rest of the depth chart is settled, for the most part, except for the PK and returner spots. One thing we absolutely cannot do is go into our first game without a clear QB. We need at least one week where a starter takes all the snaps with the first team in order to prepare properly.
  7. Not that it alters our game against them, but OSU linebacker Dorian Bell just transferred to Duquesne. He was one of the suspended players. It's just another sign of internal turmoil.
  8. Did anybody go to the football practice? Or are you all too busy enjoying the view from the floor seats at the Volleyball scrimmage?
  9. Senior DB Diamond Weaver has left for Humboldt State.
  10. 2013 Minnesota Forward Francis Koroma has verballed to the Zips!
  11. Just found out that after the football practice, the volleyball team is holding an open scrimmage in the JAR at 2:00. They're really underrated as far as being a fun sport to watch.
  12. Michigan was ranked #31 by TopDrawerSoccer in the pre-season Tournament 64 ratings..
  13. Yeah! Go Zips! Road win over a Big Ten team!
  14. The stadium upgrades probably didn't hurt, either.
  15. While I can't actually view it from my phone, here's the link to the Gametracker for those interested in watching. Thanks for the updates, mes.
  16. While they haven't gone on a foreign trip or have a bunch of super-hyped unknowns joining the team, the Women's Basketball team should be in for a very good season. Last year we were a BG buzzer-beater away from beating the almighty Falcons and we took a major step toward becoming a winning MAC team with lots of talented underclassmen getting lots of minutes. We're getting close to being able to compete for a MAC championship, which I don't think anyone would have thought possible even five years ago. I don't think many people know about this, but here's the official Zips WBB team blog, updated by the players and coaches.
  17. Is anyone going to the open football practice tomorrow? I'm out of town this weekend and can't make it. Anybody with an eye for evaluating players that can provide insight would be greatly appreciated. I do have this little nugget from someone who attended one of the practices earlier this week: Clayton Moore is "legit" and should become our starting QB.
  18. HB Bryton Barr spurns an Akron offer to walk-on at Penn State.
  19. If he's here 10 years, it's because he's mediocre at best. You want him gone in three years either way. Either he sucks and he's gone soon so we can move on, or he's good enough to catch the eye of a BCS team.
  20. There are three sections of a given team's schedule: Non-conference, Conference, and Conference Tournament. In the order that they affect your team's chances to get into the NCAA tournament, they are the Conference Tournament, the Non-Conference, and the Conference. Putting the focus on the thing that matters least is a terrible decision. If the MAC encouraged teams to win more OOC games, the conference record wouldn't matter as much. This new format seems to actively promote the MAC being a 1-bid conference. How is it a good thing to focus on the conference season? How does that help the MAC?? Please, somebody tell me.
  21. They have more choices (and better hours) that I did in 2006! Like that new Einstein Bros in the Library....and 3 starbucks....4 zee's...sigh They've gotten to the point where they're replacing options with new options. Einstein Bros replaces the Library Cafe, which used to sell everything Einstein has plus most things you would find in a convenience store (they completely remodeled the first floor of the library). Now if I want just a drink and a bag of chips I have to pack up everything I was using to study and walk to the Student Union. The burger place replaces a place that used to sell burgers, chicken, pizza, pasta, salads, and all sorts of other things. We're losing options now, not gaining them. I want to see more places that have unique or at least diverse offerings on or near campus. We're getting the exact opposite.
  22. No. It's straight-seeded 1-12 based on conference record.
  23. CBS Sports takes a look at the Zips following their Canada trip. Lots of good nuggets of information here.
  24. If you're looking to order custom Tees, you should contact former Zips bball player Nick Goddard. He recently got into the teeshirt selling business (yes, I'm being serious).
  25. There's a link on the media day thread to U Tube video of the event. Im honestly just shocked at the lack of coverage. We're on preseason update THREE for womens volleyball... They have FIFTEEN videos from the men's soccer media day up on Youtube. That's not enough for you?
