Sounds like a couple Zips posters will be happy.

New Offer - QB Cole Stoudt

I see two wins on this schedule. We're crap. Coach I is crap until he proves otherwise. The new schemes are crap until they prove otherwise. The "talent" is crap until they prove otherwise.

A sad day for UA

Women's Cross Country, Tennis, and Volleyball have been recognized "for their exceptional work in the classroom as part of the NCAA’s Academic Performance Program." Three sports is more than any other MAC school. Those academic reforms put in place by Mack Rhoades are beginning to pay off. http://www.ncaa.org/wps/portal/ncaahome?WC..._class_05_12_10

You'll be even more shocked to find out that they are having a dollar beer night tomorrow. Dollar. Beer. Night. The Info would be full from the time the gates open until the end of the game.

If what we're selling is popular enough with parents, the parents will bring their kids anyway. None of the pro teams I've ever watched go out of their way to attract families. They create a product that attracts people whether they have kids or are single adults, but if the parents want to bring along their kids then the team will accommodate them. Don't use bringing kids as a selling point. It sends a message that the whole thing is meant for kids. And if there's anything that will keep students and adults away, it's the prospect of being surrounded by a bunch of smelly, whining kids at an event designed specifically for smelly, whining kids.

New 2010 football verbal: Billy Harmon
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Rasor had a good thought on his blog. Harmon is likely receiving Erick Howard's scholarship. What's interesting is that we went with a LB instead of an RB. Maybe coach I's opinion of what the team needs in the future has changed now that he has gone through spring training. -
There's a lot of stuff in there that should be saved. I hope they take some time to pick the place clean and avoid collapsing the building on anything that might have value.
-
BigTime TV Sports, to be exact. The show should air on May 20th, but only south of Akron.
-
Have the Aeros ever offered discounted tickets? Something like BOGO? Just curious. If so, someone told me they are undervaluing their product. Obviously the Aeros must NOT know what they are doing. They have dollar hotdog nights.

MLB Billy Harmon from St Vincent-St. Mary's High school has verballed to Akron for the class of 2010.

Getting fans is a long term process. Dr. Z is right when he says that if alumni aren't already going to games then there's very little you can do to suddenly make them start. So the focus needs to be on students. We only have 6 football home games a year, but there are only student promotions tied in to the games that draw the most anyway (homecoming, home opener, and sometimes Can't). Every single game needs to have the RHPB holding a contest between dorm room floors, with the winning floor getting a pizza for every person or something. Every single game. Or maybe by signing in with your student ID every game you get entered in a chance to win an awesome prize like a blimp ride or a 3DTV. The more games you attend, the more chances you have to win. 1-off promotions don't get people back into their seats the next game. It's like the athletic department is afraid that too many students means not enough room for paying customers, even though there's room to spare. For basketball, the students show up for Can't. They don't show up for anything else. Part of this is scheduling. There are no interesting teams, and if we ever do get an important OOC game it always happens over winter break, like Nevada and UMass were. Winning the MAC is not an accomplishment because in most people's minds the MAC is on par with the worst leagues. We are a 1-bid league that only wins a single game in the NCAA tournament once per decade. But most importantly, the games aren't fun. There's no fun to be had at a Zips basketball game. It's boring, it's work. One thing that could be done is to consolidate the student section. Another thing is to up the production values, which means adding things like animations to play after an amazing shot/dunk, getting the concessions lines actual cash registers instead of a hand calculator, having souvenir cups instead of pop bottles, having giveaways other than t-shirts like a Zippy bobblehead, and getting ANYTHING other than middle school dance troupes for half time.
-
That's interesting. I'm hoping that Bridgestone and Goodyear start a research war on campus.
-
Of course they're denying. Cinci and Louisville denied to the very day the announcement happened. Read the Missouri response. They say they haven't received an invitation, but they have discussed expansion "internally". It means there has been contact, but nothing official that can be announced.

Win, maybe?

If true, it pretty much leaves Akron in the MAC. But the MAC will be left behind by not changing while every other conference makes moves to improve. If only Rutgers leaves the Big East, they'll add UCF, ECU, or Memphis. If both Rutgers and Notre Dame leave, they'll two of those schools which helps them with football scheduling, and if one of them is Memphis it might even improve their basketball league. C-USA would take FAU or FIU to get back into Florida, and perhaps Troy since they're really the only good Sun Belt school. MTSU could be another option for C-USA. The Big XII losing both Missouri and Nebraska is interesting. They could take another Texas team such as Houston or TCU, or they might take Tulsa, Utah, or BYU. If they go for MWC schools, it wouldn't affect us further down the line.

I heard he was looking at lower division schools in the Cleveland area. But yeah, I would say that at this point Humpty is leaving for sure.
