FB Austin Bailey and TE Anthony Ritossa for certain. We don't have a true FB on the roster right now, and TE looks thin. And the two JUCO players will more than likely be starting.

And another thought. WHY THE HELL IS THE STADIUM CRUMBLING ALREADY??? They roped off the entire east side and most of the front rows on the west side because the concrete was missing in huge chunks along the lower railing. The stadium isn't even 12 months old and it's falling apart. UA should sue the contractor or subcontractor who did such horrible work. Two-feet chunks of concrete missing at 10 yard intervals along a wall is completely unacceptable.

They've shown the Marshall game before. That's the very definition of a classic.

There's probably a lot of thankful students right now loving the heat. -
Who else is pumped for the NBA playoffs? Things should be quick and easy for the Cavs in the first round.

My thought is that we'll see lots of true freshmen playing next season.

Zips still using outdoor practice field?
ZachTheZip replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
They played on grass once last year (Penn State) and will play twice this year (Kentucky, Temple). The MAC title game is on artificial turf as well. Seems like the 50 yard practice field is fine for the frequency of play on natural grass. It's impossible to run a college football practice with over 100 guys on a 50 yard field, individual drills would be impossilbe, not to mention the kickers need a place to practice, and being that we have no goal posts on the grass space, that's impossible. If there's one position where practice on grass before a game on grass is an absolute must, it's kicking, and right now they have nowhere to do that. I've seen them practice kicking from the grass before. It's not that big of a deal. As far as "not enough room for a 100 guys", I would beg to differ. I can't even believe you're still on this topic. The practice facilities that we have access to are excellent, and all facilities have more use than just Varsity athletics. Are you joking?? You really think a 50 yard field is big enough to run a FULL TEAM practice??? It's a tight squeeze with different position groups running into each other's drills with a 100 yard field!! Most programs and all NFL teams have TWO outdoor fields for this very purpose, and the offense and the defense each take a 100 yard field. You do realize how many position groups there are that need space for individual drills don't you? QB's, RB's, OL, WR's, TE's sometimes split off, DL, LB's, Corners, and Safeties. You've obviously never played college football. A hundred yard field is a tight squeeze. A 50 yard field would be impossible. All I'm saying is that we built multi-million dollar facilities and didn't include a grass practice field, a standard of all college programs. Hell, Can't State has 3 of them. Find me one other school with facilities like ours that doesn't have a grass practice field. Heck, I bet every other school even in our crap conference has a grass practice field, regardless of what the quality of their facilities. Whether you think it will or not, the fact is is that it will make a difference when we play grass teams. We have three grass football fields. They're located outside the Rubber Bowl. If Coach I thinks it's imperative to have the entire team practice on grass at the same time, there's nothing stopping his staff from taking a couple Roo Express busses and heading out there. Otherwise, the coach can have part of the team practicing on grass, the other on turf, and they can switch out. -
I really think Green will be the main option at the SF spot. We need somebody who can score, who is capable of beating the other team by themselves on offense like what happened to us constantly at the end of the season. Green is by far the best scorer in this recruiting class. If he can play good defense, he has to be a shoe-in.

Coach kest a finalist for Houston job
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Coach Kest has contract extended through 2015 Kest is wheeling and dealing. I am certain that she used the Houston interview as leverage. If she still goes to UH, Akron gets a much bigger buyout clause. She undeniably deserves this contract. She led the Zips to the best season in program history and the future looks even brighter. -
So much for Diggs being our bigger guard. Doesn't mean he couldn't get some time at the 2 or guard opposing 2's though, right? He definitely could, if we need to go big with the line-up. Hopefully this also marks the end of Brett McClanahan at Forward. Brett should be a tall guard.

It's going to be an offense vs. defense format.

4th basketball recruit announced!
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
As a prep school player, he needs to be prepared to step into his role immediately. If he's not good enough to be the starting PG next season, it's a wasted scholarship. That's the trouble with JUCOs and Prep school players: if they can't contribute immediately, they're a loss. High school players can develop over time, but Abreu doesn't have that luxury. Diggs was a true freshman at UNO, I think. He might not have to sit a year because his school is dropping the program, but he might redshirt anyway. Where did you see that Abreu had other programs offer him? -
Rasor comfirms it all.
-
There's probably some rule against going to another MAC school in their transfer papers, but I think if all three of them could go to Toledo they would all start immediately. If all three are leaving, then the final opened scholarship will very likely remain with D-Rob.

4th basketball recruit announced!
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I can't find him on any recruiting website. Here's a blog post about him. Little PG from Puerto Rico is making some noise -
Found this on UA's Twitter Alex Abreu from Puerto Rico Prep school player from a school with an unnecessarily long name.
-
Yep. And now that leads to two questions. Where are they going, and who is coming in to replace them? This makes room for two more recruits. It might lead to one of the walk-ons getting a scholarship for a year if we can't find a 5th recruit.
-
False, in basketball you must sit out a year, release or not. If a coach releases you, you are eligible for aid the year you are sitting out. If you do not get the release, you are stuck paying your own way. You're at least partially right. I got the situation with Bubba mixed up. But I am 100% certain that there is a way for you to not sit out.
-
Of course none of these names are that surprising. As far as sitting out a year, it is possible to not have to do it. If a coach releases you from scholarship, you don't have to sit out. Most of the time it's impossible for some administrative reason. Remember that Bubba could have played for OU immediately if Dambrot had released his scholarship. NIU's Darion Anderson won't have to sit out a year because he was released.
