Blair Gavin starts against Galaxy
ZachTheZip replied to bmaker's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Blair plays for Chivas USA. So does Ben Zemanski, I believe. -
It's on Zips Zone. http://www.gozips.com/newMediaPlayer/conso...=10800&KEY=

Here's a 3-star 6'3" JUCO PG from Texas with interest in Akron.

Steve Sweich, as filmed by Tim Carrol. The sound is a little muddy, so it helps if you read the lyrics as you listen. The "winning" performance by the Swimming and Diving team, parodying every sport along with the Cheerleading and Dance Teams:

I like their uniforms.

Facebook Event. looks like they're paying attention. Get it started early so people can make plans. Everybody RSVP and invite your friends.

Not that bad for the first year. They raised over $750 for charity. It will become an annual tradition, so I think it will be huge in the future. Also, I think I might be attending more Swimming meets next year. Wow.
-
If you went, you were in for plenty of laughs. From the Golf team making fun of Tiger Woods to Softball's random road trip conversation/dance routine. Steve Swiech's re-mix of Empire State of Mind is an instant classic. If it gets put up on youtube, you have to see it.

I saw Beanie run and wasn't impressed, either. Tyrell Sutton seemed to be the far better prospect. No idea where Devoe is going. I bet his first choice is to find one of the BCS schools that were interested in him a few years ago. As for highly-rated recruits that actually panned out, wasn't Jason Taylor considered a top recruit when he came into the program?
-
We can rule Jay Harris out. He's going to Valpo.
-
I'm surprised. So what was possibly the worst team in MAC history is still a step up from a post-season Horizon League team.
-
Is there a timeline for transferring? Like if they don't decide by April 15th then they don't get their paperwork signed? I would think that the staff has some kind of deadline set up, so they can devise a plan going forward without having to worry about any more players leaving.
-
Good luck to him. I hope he gets a good job to support his family.

It should be entertaining. Hopefully. At least a couple of the sports teams are creative and have a good sense of humor. Akron athletics has a Facebook page, but they never actually do anything with it. They could set up an event for the spring game and invite thousands of people, far more than any grass-roots effort or the Rowdies can. But they don't, or if they do they don't give it enough time to be effective. The events page and invitations should be set up at least a week before the actual event to give people time to make plans and then respond and invite friends.

Facebook event Some of you already know about this, but I'll put it up in case you haven't heard. Tuesday night at 8:00 at the JAR, the Akron student athletes from every team will be putting on a talent show to be judged by a group of very prominent figures in Zips athletics including the Athletic Director. Tickets are $3 and everything goes to charity for earthquake victims. It's being organized by Zips senior futballer CJ Kaufman and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. It should be a fun time and it could be the last chance to see some of your favorite Zips players before they graduate. It's also a possible opportunity to talk with the players and athletic officials and coaches, if you can get them cornered.

QB Pat Coyne commits to Cincinnati.
-
I think the tension came from the players being frustrated with themselves more than their teammates. They weren't performing to the best they could be. Whatever happens, if any players transfer I wish them the best and don't hold any hard feelings.

talking about the Buffalo game. Too bad I didn't see this before the actual game was played.

SI doesn't even think the MAC is a conference anymore
ZachTheZip replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If this happened to the Big Ten or the ACC or whatever, their fans wouldn't declare it a non-issue. MAC fans want their teams and their conference to be taken seriously, to not be considered a joke. Well, part of that joke is taking this crap without complaint. -
Maybe it's because the men's players weren't constantly getting in trouble at parties.
-
From what I have heard from an inside source, interesting is an understatement... Care to elaborate? They told me to keep it private...someone heard from the inside and told me to keep it quiet. There are 3 players that confirmed last tuesday to Dambrot that they are transferring. There is also one player who is debating to stay on the team or to transfer. I'll let you guys guess who since I don't want to be the spoiler We don't take too kindly to your type round here. I'll tell you this much...3 out of the 4 i mentioned are backcourt players... But you didn't mention anybody. And I would keep it that way until an official announcement is made.

Just more disrespect. I'll post this on the MAC board, if you don't mind, to gauge their reaction and maybe get a big enough response to get SI to change it. -

Somebody had to end up on the outside looking in. And then you have the players who were lucky enough to actually get playing time but still aren't happy, how would it feel if you were benched all year but the people who got to play were mouthing off and couldn't be content. It's just a bad combination.
