  1. Who said that quote? Was it some Orange player from 2008? Was it their fired coach? Was it one of their fans? Nope. It was Director of Athletics at Syracuse University, Dr. Daryl Gross. The lack of professionalism here makes me angry. And the lack of humility. I want to beat Syracuse even more. I want to beat them by more than 14 this time. I want Zippy to kickbox that stupid orange blob into the next decade. Hey Rob Ianello, you need a slogan. You need to start drilling it into your players heads that "We're Akron. We should beat Syracuse." They're crap. We shouldn't be crap.
  2. Akron beats NIU 6-1 to move to 15-0 on the year. They are 4-0 in the MAC. Tomorrow they play at #26 DePaul. The biggest test of the season, by far. If they beat DePaul, they will become legit in the eyes of the rankings.
  3. Down to 5 scholarship players, 3 walk-ons, and their lone 2010 recruit is in danger of not qualifying academically. Their new coach has double the salary of his previous job, but that's not nearly enough for the mess he is tasked with cleaning up.
  4. The heavy equipment is out there, sitting next to the tennis courts. Early this morning they were working on the electrical box outside the north entrance. I'm guessing they can't really start digging the new area until the lights are removed. Also, they appear to have made changes to the drainage system on the hill. There's now a three-foot tall sewer pipe cover sticking out of the ground.
  5. Here's your statistics. Just wait for the pre-loader to finish.
  6. Another quality article on the Zips spring practice. One on the ailments of the Special Teams will hopefully be next.
  7. I was being sarcastic about CSU. A significant amount of their athletic income comes from renting out the Wolstein Center for events.
  8. How do athletic programs such as Gonzaga's and Cleveland State's survive? Gonzaga has built a big enough fan base that they survive off of donations. CSU leeches from Butler's success via NCAA payouts.
  9. There was an article in the ABJ about it. The psych department having a "wall breaking" rather than a ground breaking. No wonder I missed that article. There's nothing to it. It does look cool, though.
  10. Who has that link for the construction bids for the University? The UA-owned red brick building on the NE corner of Mill and College is getting some kind of renovation. They cut away the corner at an angle and put up two arches that cover a new entrance. It looks really cool. What does UA use that building for, anyway?
  11. Can't State to hold rally for "lenient" marijuana policy on campus.
  12. There is nothing there now. No equipment, no workers. I think they were just removing the trees and putting them somewhere else. No digging.
  13. Butler was ranked #11 in the pre-season. What does it take to get that kind of respect before you make the big run?
  14. Rasor posted Butler's formula to winning on his blog. I think Akron needs to change two things. They need a go-to scorer on offense, and they need to play up to their own athleticism. The go-to scorer is supposedly Brett McKnight, but he doesn't do very much scoring and plays terrible late in the game. I think our go-to guy should be Zeke. Don't know what to do on offense? Pass it to Zeke and let him put it over the defense. of course, he needs to actually be on the court for that to happen. The team is athletic, but the play style doesn't take advantage of it. Dambrot's still running the game like he has a bunch of slow, plodding players at every position. Our guards can burn the defense, Zeke can run, the forwards can run. But they don't. They walk up the court and let the defense set up against them.
  15. In epic ways. We know the empty feeling that comes from being so close and not making it. Hard to say whose game was closer. Either way, mid-majors need to take a stand against the ACC.
  16. iCoach sounds too douchebaggy. Speakgin of the coach, I heard he's the speaker at the football HOF luncheon on Monday.
  17. Some offers I missed earlier. DE Deonte Gibson RB Cody Grice MLB Zack Shaw Chris Carter Jr. - committed to OSU
  18. Firestone HS OT Tommy Brown verbals to OSU.
  19. Akron beats EMU 7-0 and improves to a 14-0 record. Best start in program history.
  20. They beat a strong Toledo team 5-2 and are now 13-0. EMU up next tomorrow.
  21. I really do doubt he's going. I just though it was funny how much ESPN is pushing for it. They wrote seven different articles and a couple of blogs about it this morning.
  22. Got your attention? ESPN is drooling all over the idea. They even photoshopped him in a Knicks uni.
  23. Polsky is a college in and of itself. Summit College. It's in the middle of downtown because it's used for so many workforce development programs. It's for convenience that it is where it is. The people who enroll in those programs don't want to have to navigate a college campus to take their classes. They want everything to be right there, and Polsky provides that. Think of Polsky as a branch campus like Wayne or Medina. It's perfect the way it is. Most colleges have something like this in the downtown of their closest metro area. The only difference with Akron is that downtown happens to be a short walk from the main campus.
  24. It looks pretty nice on the part where they put up the brick work. Also, I doubt they would close off Exchange along that stretch because it makes the new parking deck almost inaccessible. What's the point in building a gigantic new parking deck only to close it off from most of the roads used to get to it?
  25. Egner, when asked if he had peaked during the State Championship run "No, once I get to the University of Akron, I have to prove myself all over again. And I will have to work even harder because nothing will be given to me," he attested. "Tonight though was a lot of fun and to play with these men who I played against was the fun part."
