  1. Hartwick has hired Binghamton head coach John Scott to be their new head coach. Looks like they're staying D-I for now. I still think we should look elsewhere, and possibly bring along NIU, WMU, and Buffalo.
  2. Zack Anderson has a good shot at being drafted.
  3. Foti Construction sued by the EPA over stadium work.
  4. There are issues with emminent domain that is one of the main reasons for the delay in the development of the Team Shop. The current deal with B&N and Athletics is a short term deal. For B&N to consider spending $$$ for the buildout, a long term deal is necessary. What does eminent domain have to do with anything? The team shop is already there, just the interior has yet to be built. They don't need to acquire new property or anything.
  5. Jay Harris is a great target, if ESPN is to be believed.
  6. There are lots of PGs in the Chicago metro area that show up on the recruiting websites. High School: Fabyon Harris Jay Harris Eddie Williams Wayne Simon Hollis Hill Rishaad Alexander Lane Barlow James Fleming Rahjan Muhammad Daniel Daudu Mike McCall DeAndre McCamey Ryan Frazier Joe Bulliner Kenny Stevenson Kelvin Wilson Rico Richardson JUCOs: Andre Quarles Will Marlow Adrian Burton
  7. Torrence and Wackerly to transfer One more scholarship opens. Too bad, I thought Torrence had far and away the most potential on the team.
  8. And lo, the dead horse did rise from the grave, to be beat heavily once again .
  9. Zips down Buffalo 6-1. Now 12-0 on the season.
  10. Strong balance wins championships. You need both a good offense and good defense when playing the better teams.
  11. They don't even have a coach right now. Toledo's so messed up right now, it might be possible to land him.
  12. It can't look good. The team shop sticks out from the stadium. It's the thing closest to the street and the thing you see most prominently when driving by. Not having it open is losing money. I wonder how many more people would be willing to walk into the team shop when it's at an easily accessible location on a main road instead of buried in the center of campus away from prospective buyers.
  13. Yep. And that's a good thing. The best players get to compete against higher competition while our reserves get valuable playing time against good collegiate teams.
  14. Agreed. A little birdie told me some time ago that the fourth player in the mix is a PG from the Chicago area. Do some homework. Dylan Ennis is graduating from HS early?
  15. All I can go by are some weird Facebook statuses from a few weeks ago. So... maybe? I thought he was a walk-on, to be honest.
  16. Maybe. I still think getting a true PG should be the team's primary concern.
  17. Larry Hunter is a very good basketball coach. He would turn around the rockets. Frankly, Toledo should be a league power every year. All Toledo needs is a slightly-better-than-mediocre coach and they could dominate the West every year.
  18. Question: What "revenue" is there, other than gross receipts from tickets? I don't know how Hawaii can make almost four times as much revenue as Akron, when attendance is very similar. Donations. Institutional support. Conference payouts. TV contracts. NCAA payouts. But mostly institutional support. A school can throw a bunch of money from student fees at the program and call it all "revenue". Apparently Akron doesn't consider that kind of money as revenue, while others do. It's just a different way of reporting.
  19. Joe Dunn said Steve McNeese is one of the best point guards in the midwest and people want to move him to the 2-spot. How can anyone question Joe Dunn's basketball IQ? I don't get the fascination is with steve at the 2 spot. Maybe two years ago, but get out of the past! He's been playing some great ball lately, and at the point guard position. Should a Point Guard average just 2.5 assists per game? Sure he doesn't turn the ball over, but he also doesn't facilitate the offense. I'll take someone who turns the ball over 3 times per game if they average 8 assists. Especially on a defensive team like Akron where TOs don't always translate to opposing points.
  20. Toledo Blade link "Other candidates reportedly in the mix are Western Carolina head coach Larry Hunter, Wisconsin-Green Bay head coach Tod Kowalczyk, and Alabama associate head coach Dan Hipsher." This could get interesting.
  21. Gozips.com says they're the only undefeated team in the country.
  22. The "margin" heading is useless. How many schools are there that are hemorrhaging money but report their student fees as revenue to they break even? Akron doesn't do that, and so it makes us look much worse than we are.
  23. CNN list of revenues and expenses across all D-I basketball teams. It reports that Akron basketball brought in a total of $424,875, but had expenses of $1,603,402 for a net loss of $1,178,527. I'm not sure how accurate this thing is, though, because too many schools posted a net of $0 where expenses exactly equaled revenue. Each school reports their expenses a different way, so there's no real way to gauge this. For comparison, Duke lost more money than any other school. The only real valid comparison among the schools is in the expenses column, since revenue can be easily fudged via institutional support. A school can simply throw a bunch of general budget money at the program and call it "revenue" to even things up if they're in the red. Here are the expenses for the MAC basketball schools. This is a good way to see how much each school cares about basketball: Toledo: 1,934,500 Ohio: 1,787,577 Akron: 1,603,402 Ball State: 1,514,612 WMU: 1,496,071 Can't State: 1,420,842 Miami: 1,343,259 EMU: 1,271,105 CMU: 1,270,715 Buffalo: 1,207,151 BGSU: 978,966
  24. Day 2 recap "Of note, four players have new numbers for 2010. Two took advantage of the departures of 2009 seniors Dashan Miller and Andre Jones as Patrick Nicely made the move from #16 to #7 and Bill Alexander, who redshirted last season, moved from #46 to #21. Two others, also redshirt freshman, made the move from linebacker to fullback forcing the number changes. Blake Fraley was #54 and is now #46, while James Heiss moved from #50 to #47."
