  1. It's very likely that his "technique" has rubbed off on some of the younger players.
  2. In a pretty awesome move, the entire two-day event is being broadcast for FREE on ZipsZone.Let's make a name for ourselves, while making those "name" schools jealous of our fieldhouse.
  3. If Miami or CSU win their conference tournaments, they'll be 15 or 16 seeds because of their records. That virtually guarantees a one-and-done in the Big Dance.Yes, Akron could play a tougher schedule, but to play one on the level of CSU or Miami hurts if you want to do more than just win your conference.Akron's schedule next year looks ok. Better than this year, but not so difficult to ruin your chance at a decent seed in the NCAA tournament.
  4. Yeah, but 1/3rd of the class was already in place when he got here.Still, it's not bad. From what I hear, he's already recruiting for the 2011 class.
  5. UA's college of business making a name for themselves through competitionThe team includes former Zips futballer Ossie Michalsen.
  6. Haven't tried it yet, but it's on the "to-do" list. Never got the opportunity to get some "real" BBQ while I was in NC for the College Cup.
  7. I just looked at their website, and have discovered that there are no Chipotle's in or around Syracuse. I'm shocked.
  8. Yeah! I mean, who wants a winning season or home games when we can be "big time"?
  9. As far as tailgating, I don't think you'll be able to get into the credentialed lots. Not sure which lots have any grassy areas, but no matter which one you choose you'll have to get there early to claim it.Alcohol is technically prohibited on campus.
  10. As a note, Luigi's only takes cash. I think it's worth it for their pizza, though. There's also the world's ugliest Buffalo Wild Wings across the street from the stadium.Swenson's has good/great burgers. It's a classic drive-up where you eat in your car.If you're looking for more generic restaurants like Applebees, they're located on Howe Avenue near Chapel Hill Mall, about 5 miles north of campus. It's a straight shot up State Route 8.
  11. University of Akron scientist discovers the actual color of a dinosaur.Pretty cool.
  12. BP donates $500,000 to our Corrosion Engineering programHopefully enough to kickstart construction on the building.
  13. Are Zips fans satisfied with Zeke's performance/progress this year? I would assume most thought he would be MAC freshman of the year this year but that appears not to be in the cards. Has he been a little more of a project than expected?Who was expecting him to not be a project? All the scouting sites said he was one and that his ranking was based on sheer potential. He easily leads the MAC in blocked shots despite only playing 20 minutes a game. He has progressed quite a bit since the first game but it's not obvious unless you've seen him from the beginning. I didn't expect all that much from him this year simply because he's the only freshman on a team that returned all but one of the players from a championship team. I believe that he'll really break out next season. Anything he provides this year is just icing on the cake for an already good team.
  14. You can view ZN without logging on.I think that should be changed. Lurkers might be more inclined to share their opinions if they had to be logged in. I know there are some people who don't want us to know they're looking, but there is a hidden user option that nobody seems to take advantage of.Of course, that's just my opinion. You're allowed to disagree, and let me know it.
  15. The Akron Invitational begins on Friday. It's the biggest Indoor Track meet we've ever had at the field house, and possibly the highest-profile sporting event relative to the sport that has ever happened for the university.Akron will be competing against Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Eastern Michigan, Can't State, Auburn, Buffalo, Duquesne, VMI, Youngstown State, Appalachian State, Winthrop, Marshall, Dayton, IPW, West Virginia, West Virginia, Slippery Rock, Ashland, Cal University of Pa., Oberlin, Edinboro, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit.Auburn, Penn State and West Virginia are all ranked teams. So come out and cheer for Akron. There's guaranteed to be at least two teams you love to hate participating here, and it's hard to pass up the chance to see Akron beat them all at once on our home turf.Facebook event pageGozips.com link
  16. There will be no lack of things to do in the area on Labor Day weekend. I think we'll get a lot of Cuse fans at the game.
  17. Akron's newest neighborhoodI think this is a good idea. Turning this into a neighborhood is a good step toward creating a "college town" within the city. They can start doing things like holding their own Independence Day parade or whatever other neighborhoods like Firestone Park or Goodyear Heights do, except have it focused mainly toward college students.Creating a sense of community is key to creating a residential atmosphere on and around campus. Same with providing things to do outside the university.
  18. Too bad they couldn't pull it off. That was the toughest road game left this season by far. At least BG lost, too. That means that the game against them on the 20th is still for control of the MAC East and one of the top 2 spots in the tournament. The team learned a lot from this, even though they couldn't pull off the upset.
  19. Down 50-43 with 7:00 left.
  20. Calling fouls on clean blocks. Where have I seen that before?
  21. Sounds like the Refs are beginning their patented "even up the foul numbers" thing.
  22. Need Toledo to win at Miami. They're due to win a game.
  23. So many fouls being called on Akron. Is it possible that the refs are being influenced by the large crowd? They're probably not used to more than 200 people at a game.
  24. Toledo hits a big three to tie it at half 32-32.
  25. NIU up 38-27 at BGSU at halftime.Toledo up 21-18 at Miami at halftime.
