  1. There's no reason not to think that we we'll have 4 away games to start the season. It seems like one last hoorah for the "Money-game" scheduling philosophy.
  2. What part of Can't's scheduling had worked so well? Was it their getting pummeled by UNC, or was it thier games against George Mason and St. Marys? I think the answer is obvious. We will have a good slate of solid mid-major teams on our schedule next year, including Dayton, Winthrop, Temple, and VCU. We will get a chance to play some "BCS" level teams in Puerto-Rico (I think we're in that tournament). If the MAC can continue to improve, we'll have a pretty solid schedule. Who cares if we don't get on TV only to be killed at Duke in the name of "exposure"? The only thing that is exposed is our inability to win on the road against a national championship contender.
  3. Exactly. Our schedule is fine. Losing to Duke and NC does nothing for you. One has to remember that on top of losing to VCU, Winthrop, K.e.n.t. & Dayton we also have bad losses against N.Illinois and Central Michigan. Western Michigan is an understandable loss, but 1) they pounded us and 2) K.e.n.t. beat them! So right now K.e.n.t. is 1) winning games they should win / not losing games they shouldn't lose, and 2) winning the toss-up games. In our program's history we have been inconsistent w/ #1 and completely unsuccessful w/ #2. No wonder K.e.n.t. is in the Top 25. They deserve it. We don't. The schedule's not the issue. If we had accomplished what Can't has w/ both points 1 and 2 above, we'd be in the Top 25 right now too.You both have seen the light! Scheduling a bunch of unwinnable games does nothing for you except give you a falsely high RPI, and RPI means nothing unless you are a bubble team in a major conference because then they can use it to justify leaving a better mid-major out.Win the games that we are supposed to, and win at least 50% of the toss-ups and you have a great season. We have done neither this year.
  4. They update pretty quickly. The top one updates at least every 5 seconds.
  5. Maybe we only play 7 MAC games this year, like a few East teams did last year.
  6. somebody just opened the YSU can of worms....Who says it's a can of worms? I'd rather play YSU at home and get a home game in before October than get beat up on the road against OSU any day.
  7. This game is big for pride. We need to beat a good team at home, and we need to get a nice win on national TV. We need to get J Wood back to form, and we need to do it all before we play at Ohio. We only have 2 games before then, and Buffalo isn't nearly as good of a test as VCU will be.
  8. It's my policy to root for every MAC team when thy play a non-conference foe. The RPI works by comparing teams' records, not other teams' RPIs. The better records MAC teams have, the better the conference RPI will be regardless of strength of schedule. Some teams don't understand this and constantly overschedule to inflate their RPI through playing lots of top teams, but then we end up having to play our conference teams with awful records, which can only hurt us and it doesn't matter who they played.
  9. This is from the article on ESPN: Looks like the announcers will be in for a suprise on Saturday.
  10. Wow. Incredible if he can pull it off. He was hinting at returning sooner than expected, but this is almost too good to be true!I hope he's not pushing himself too hard. I'd rather have a 100% healthy Jeremiah Wood in the tournament than a J. Wood that is still trying to recover from surgury a month later because he hurt himself by coming back too soon.
  11. Dials, Ced, and Linhart step up and each score 14 points. That's what I expected to happen all season long. Those guys are the warriors and leaders.
  12. Can't up 32-25 at the half. Bubba () leads all scorers with 16.
  13. Let's go Ced! Do you think he's finally getting back to his old self?
  14. Not sure on a time. We just have a date. Here's the Spring schedules and little snippets for the entire MAC:http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content....;CID=774268#MAC
  15. Looks like we're rebounding from the last game nicely.
  16. You guys can leave you thoughts here: http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=468It's the Huskie's fan message board. It's chilling to read the thread that was going on during the shooting in real time.
  17. These have been around for at least a year. Why would the ABJ decided to have this be the lead story in their business section today, instead of months ago? Either way, it's nice publicity.
  18. Wow. NIU is the last place I would expect something terrible like this to happen. My heart goes out to them.
  19. Coach D says he will not play anyone that does not play defense, B. McKnight does not play defense, if Coach D keeps his word, we wont see him anymore....Did anyone really play any defense in last night's game? It was really a team effort of bad defense. OK I will probably get slammed for this, but sometimes IMHO I think offense wins games, there I said it! This defense wins games gets old to me, if you noticed last night, offensively we shot terrible, if we made half those shots, and still played terrible defense we would of won! Ok let the slamming begin.....Not quite, but you're on to something. Defense doesn't win games, it can only put you in a position to win. Offense wins games, because as John Madden says: "You know <random guest color-commentator guy>, the team that scores the most points usually wins the game." You can play the best defense in the world, but it doesn't score you any points. You can also have an incredible offense, but it doesn't keep the other team from outscoring you.Winning takes both offense and defense. Coaches can focus on one or the other as having more importance based on the talents of the players, but you need both to win. Anybody that believes that only one of those is the key to winning is extremely short-sighted.
  20. What now? I'll tell you what now: FREEDOM! The only thing left weighing he Zips down was the "obligation" in the back of their heads to keep the home win streak alive. They don't have to worry about that now. They don't have to worry about winning the MAC East, they don't have to worry about winning the whole MAC, They should only have one thing on their minds, and that is to get a bye in the tourney. That is now their sole focus.
  21. Ok. This is a problem. We're playing out of control. Turnovers abound, and what little crowd there is too stunned to motivate the team.
  22. UA's main campus closed at 12:30 today. According to 330-972-SNOW, only "emergency" employees will report to campus.Anybody know how this affects the game tonight? Maybe it gets pushed back to tomorrow? If the game is still on, be safe heading there. I'll be listening online from work.
  23. http://www.ohio.com/sports/15536197.htmlJ Wood is already rehabbing and says he hopes to be back for the Can't State game, and guarantees to be ready to play by the MAC tournament. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!
  24. He seems to not be bothered by playing for his dad, since he turned down a chance to play in Hawaii for 4/5 years to stay in Akron. Of course, our facilities may have helped sway him, but I would take his choice of Akron to mean that playing for his father could be a really good thing for us.
  25. I'm sure that we can all agree that having only 5 (or in last year's case 4) home games a year puts the team at a disadvantage competitively, and the fans at a disadvantage for lack of oppurtunities to see thier team play. The new stadium is supposed to fix that, right? The answer is: Yes, it will. But it won't help us grow the fanbase, and it won't help us bring in recognizable big-time teams (I'm talking about the upper-tier Big 10, they wouldn't be caught dead playing us at home) that would stir interest in our games. In order to gain fans on the scale that we would need in order to create success, we need to play teams like OSU, Penn State, and Michigan either at home, or in Browns Stadium. Now here's my idea: avoid playing OSU until we're ready. Play Penn State because we can compete with them fairly well, like we did in 2006. Penn State might even play us at home if they get the right deal. The biggest thing, though, we can possibly do is play Michigan at Browns Stadium. Why? Because we can tap into the OSU fanbase who will inevitably show up to root against them. We could fill Browns Stadium and have a home crowd advantage at the same time. The atmosphere would be great for the players - It's what they've dreamed of since peewee league. It would allow us to tap into the Cleveland market, which would be awesome. In fact, someone should contact the Cleveland sports commission about it. I know they screwed up the Patriot bowl, but who would want to see Akron play Army?Just some thoughts. Here's my question to you: What innovative ideas do you have that could help us grow the fan base, schedule better, or both? Everybody's always complaining, but I rarely see any ideas beyond "We need to schedule better, and have more home games".
