Fear the Brown Roo,Yes there is a place for us all to meet for the game. Winking Lizards in Fairlawn is the most likely candidate because they have traditionally had big Akron fan support on game days. They encourage Akron fans to show up there to watch the away games. I think the owner might have played football there in the past or something like that. Or, if you can't make it to a place, it is on ESPN2, so anywhere with a cable hookup should have it. I might just go to Best Buy and watch it there if I can't make it to the Winking Lizard.

I would love to go to the Penn State game, but I work Saturday morning until 12:15 PM sooo... unless you have a private jet/helicopter that could land inside the stadium, I vote for bobbyake's idea. The Winking Lizard in Fairlawn is a good spot since they have always been Zips-friendly.

Zipsrifle, that's why we need to organize protests outside of the AD's office until they sign JD and Dambrot to really long-term contracts.
-
How 'bout a story on the fans? I mean the real fans like the ones on this website. Maybe you could mention the Zipsnation. You can get people excited about being fans by showing how much fun it can be and that others like them are already doing it. That's my idea.O, by the way, I checked out the Buchtelite website and I have to say it is pretty nice. The forums could use a little maintenence, and maybe some people to actually post stuff in them.

The biggest reason PSU might come out flat is that the players are most likely looking foward to the big Notre Dame game. I know Paterno has been waxing poetic about how Akron is SO much better than in years past and he will try not to allow them to look ahead, but the players (especially the young ones) don't want to hear it. They want to show that they are one of the absolute best teams in the country, and what better way to do it than by beating ND?

Which Winking Lizard do you reccomend? The one near Montrose or the one in the Valley on 303? I've been to both, just not on Akron game days. Great food, fun atmosphere.

Are we becoming a less commuter school ?
ZachTheZip replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
That is a brilliant idea!:bow: I hope it comes true. We could always use a few more new shiny buildings to add to our growing collection. -
QB Matt Rodgers to Akron
ZachTheZip replied to rocketfootball's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I wonder if rodgers was attracted to Akron because of Getsy being from around there. Having sucessful players from different parts of the country really helps the recruiting process. We can say "look at what that other kid from your neighborhood was able to do here. Wouldn't you like to have that kind of sucess too?" -
I was afraid of this. Robinson has the talent to be one of the best players at his position. His motivation is questionable, though. The reason he left the other schools was because they were constantly on him about being motivated, but he was just to lazy and left.

Big-MAC stadium. Get it?

Are we becoming a less commuter school ?
ZachTheZip replied to Valpo Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
The problem with living within walking distance of campus it that it is not ON campus and still ia technically "commuting". That works against the University's stats. However, if those students are constantly participating in University sponsored events or just hanging out on campus, it makes the atmosphere less like a commuter school, which is good for Akron when they recruit new students or have important ($$$) people tour the campus. -
We need as much experiance for our young guys as possible so that next year we can put up a respectable fight against The OSU. Not to mention if one of our key players goes down this year we can have a bit more depth.

Saw a billboard in Cleveland the other day advertising the $99 Family package. Hopefully the price will spur some sales, considering how expensive other area universities tickets are.

What the HECK happened?!?!?
ZachTheZip replied to AkronURocks's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We needed a win. Hopefully it will help the team get into the swing of things. A shutout will boost confidence. -
What the HECK happened?!?!?
ZachTheZip replied to AkronURocks's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I just can't hope for the same results as last year. We have a new head coach, a new system, and rediculously high expectations. I think by mid-season they will have it all together, but by then we will be lucky to get into the tournament. IF we get in, there is a good chance we make it to the finals, but there is a lot of work to be done to get to that point. -
Try these three guys. Mabye one of them can make it happen. If not, we will have to do it ourselves. I might be able to get an ad in the programs or mabye a quick plug with the announcer at Hoban home games, but that's about it.Shawn NestorAssistant Athletics Director, Media Relationsemail: nestor@uakron.eduHunter YurachekSenior Associate Athletics Director, External Relationsemail: hy@uakron.eduMike RodriguezAssociate Athletics Director, Businessemail:mrodriguez@uakron.eduJust to be safe, here is Mack Rhoades' email: krex@uakron.edu

Then my hopes lie with Luigi's, though I doubt they could afford that much spare $$$

Who is our backup Goalie? I think his name is Vince Laguardia, but I am not sure. I hear he is a decent backup who can keep us in most games. -
I'm hoping it's Luigis. Mmm... Luigis. Mabye they will have a Luigis concession stand .I would be happy with Goodyear, though. Wingfoot Stadium has a nice ring to it.

The teams are not elite, but those two running backs are/were. Williams left Memphis as the NCAA's top career rusher ever, and NIU's Wolfe is this season's top returning rusher. Watch him when he plays OSU. His team may not be that great, but he should put up some some very nice numbers against the #1 team in the country. If that is not good enough for you, I don't know what is.

Are you ready for some football
ZachTheZip replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Zipper,I didn't know that. Having graduated from there in '05 I knew a lot of the seniors that are playing there right now. I'm hoping that they win States and then come to Akron. A recruiting class with those kids would be tremendous for our team. Picking up Dan Dario would be a dream come true. He is a monster on defense. So is Congeni. Hopefully our recruiters won't let any more local talent slip through their fingers. The talent pool in Summit county provides the absolute best players in the nation for almost every major sport. (LeBron, Tyrell Sutton, Chris Wells, Butch Reynolds, ect.) -
In 2003 we didn't have the MAC's best defense and the MAC's best QB. Can't will have improved from last year (how could they get any worse?), but Akron has way too much talent to let them beat us. If there is a land mine game, it is Central Michigan. We need to beat them in order to start the conference play off on the right foot.

Mabye you misunderstood me. Most of the Penn State fans I know are really nice respectful people. I don't know that many that went to the OSU game, but I have heard stories about how rowdy the fans were. Besides,I'm pretty sure PSU considers the Suckeyes a rival of some sort. We can get pretty wild for the Can't game, but probably that's just because...
-
That is hilarious!

I know many Penn State fans and most of them really are nice, respectful people. The only problem is that here in Akron, leading up to a game, we never hear from them. lctftjc, you are the exception to the rule when a game is near. None of us can wait for Sept 2 and only then will we know for sure who is the better team.Hey, I have a proposal. Why doesn't PSU throw this game and then we will help them beat Notre Dame? Sound like a deal?
