You would think a sports bar would have a "sports package" for their TVs.We already have about 20 people from Facebook planning to go, with possibly 40 more. We need to find a place by tommorow in order to spread the word. I'll call the winking lizard to see what I can find, but it is so far from campus, I don't know how many can still make it.

Nick's Picks for Week #2 MAC football games
ZachTheZip replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football
I don't think Nick will be nearly as accurate this week. He did have an amazing week, but all the picks were pretty obvious. This week, things get a lot more interesting. -
Golden flushes are a type of duck, right?

could we win a rematch against Penn State?
ZachTheZip replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
We'll most likely end up playing Northwestern, Minnesota, or Wisconsin in the MCB. -
Wow, That is pretty cool. Here's to the ticket office and especially Keith Ford.

NC State may not be that good, but they have something we don't: name recognition.Whenever I go on vacation out of state, I always end up explaining that Akron is a city in Ohio, and then they say "Oh, that rubber place. I know that". They don't know we have a D1-A university, or any of the other cool stuff you can find out about us on Wikipedia. When you mention NC State, people automatically think of basketball, but at least the recognition is there. If we can say "We beat NC State in football", less intelligent people will be like "Wow, they beat an elite school!". We need this win to solidify our growing fanbase, and get up our reputation. A win over Cincy wouldn't hurt, either. It is the same situation with them.

ZipsNation is growing fast
ZachTheZip replied to bobbyake's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
I'm just glad to be a part of it. Myspace and Facebook really have helped, I think. I've been doing the Facebook thing, inviting all of the atheletes I could find from Akron and I'm pretty sure a few of them have joined. I would have joined years ago if only i knew about it then. Getting the word out is a priority. If we get enough people to join, word-of-mouth will do the advertising for us, but that is still a long time from now. A billboard is a great idea, and so would a banner at home games for Football, Soccer, Basketball, ect. -
3 of the top 4 teams are from the west. That says something, but I'm not sure what. Number 2 right now isn't bad at all. Hopefully with a win next week over NC State we can move up the #1 spot.

Thanks Zipdad!Interesting. The plans sound pretty nice. Would the new dorm possibly be the one currently under construction on Exchange and Grant, or an entirely new one? Sounds exciting. I can't wait to see them start building it.
-
Yeah, I would like to know about it too. Any detail you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

They were referencing those penalties commited by the O-line, I believe. Those were stupid, not dirty (unless you count the mud). It looked to me like PSU got away with a bit more uncalled penalties than us. Mabye the Ref's were intimidated by the crowd. Anyways, NO we did not play dirty.

They win and still complain? At least we have a right to complain because we lost. What a bunch of whiners . Get over it! they are playing at Notre Dame next week, and have a very good chance of winning. They need to get their heads out of and get ready for next week.

That's funny, I was looking to see if anyone had made a Myspace just this morning. Nice job smg405!

I love the Zips, and I see nothing wrong with liking another team too. I am a diehard Northwestern fan; they are my second team. What is wrong is when more people in a college's hometown root for somebody else instead of the local team, even if the local team is sucessful. Sgm, are you a Browns fan? If so, then you must be fed up by how there are what seems like more Steelers fans in Cleveland than Browns fans. In my first week of school this semester, I saw more students wearing OSU stuff than Akron stuff. It made me sick. I actually went up to someone and offered to buy him TWO Akron shirts if he promised not to wear an OSU shirt on campus for the rest of the semester. He asked why he should support a "baby school". You see, Akron is considered second class even by many of it's students. I'm sure that kid wouldv't loved to be a student at THE only college in Ohio, but couldn't afford tuition to such an "Elite" school.

Colorado sucks. I don't care who they have as a coach, who they play, or even the score. Montana State was fired up because they were considered underdogs, and Colorado was looking ahead to some other "more important" game. They got caught sleeping. I think NC State will be looking ahead, too. They veiw us as a practice game. That is why we will win.

NOOO! I just got a call from my boss. She's making me work from 2:00-10:00 PM on both saturday and sunday. I am still for the pre-game stuff, but I won't be able to be there for the game itself! This Sucks! There is a TV at work, but no ESPNU. Does anyone know if it will be on the radio, or will I have to settle for the score ticker at the bottom of ESPN?

Akron -3?

I forgot the OSU game was at night. We need to get everybody we can to go to Panini's for the game. Bobbyake, do you think you could set up an event on Facebook to go to Panini's? There are now 344 members in the group, so it is a safe bet that at least 20 of them will show up. Wouldn't it be awesome if more people showed up for the Akron game than for OSU?
-
Mabye the Athletic Department will finally open their eyes and see how great JD really is. If we don't get him a contract by the middle of the season he will be gone next year.
-
Mabye before the game, We could all meet somewhere and then travel to Panini's and make some noise on the way or something. Driving around, honking horns, yelling, showing our Blue and Gold colors, something like that. We have to let people know that we have a game next week. We could even spread the word by advertising it a the warm-up game for OSU-Texas. Anything to get people to watch and even care about the Zips. We have to do something, though, because the Akron marketing department has been silent thus far. The future of Akron's fan support is in our hands, and WE have to spread the word.
-
Next week there will be no chance of Akron getting on the big screen unless at least 50 Crazy AKron fans show up and threaten everyone who works there. OSU vs. Texas is just too big to compete with. If Panini's doesn't cooperate, everyone should leave and head somewhere else. And swear to the manager to never come back. That might get them to change it. if not then too bad for them. I will be at the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn again next week. Hope to see you there!
-
You should have gone to the Winking Lizard. It was OK, with both games getting on big screens. I you wanted to hear the Akron game, you sat near the TV the game was being played on. Same for OSU. What disturbs me most about the whole Panini's thing is that it is located 1/2 mile from Akron's campus and there were still more OSU fans there? Our marketing department need to get to work right away.
-
That happened twice that game. I was impressed that he had that much poise under pressure to be able to get off two dropped snaps.
-
It changed again. now it says "WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN!". That annoying sound is still there.

Offical Akron vs Penn Game Thread
ZachTheZip replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I bet JD will work on those mental mistakes next week. The team will watch films and be much improved before heading to NC State. Happy Valley in a rain storm with 111,000 screaming fans has got to be one of the most difficult places in the world to open the football season at. Especially against a Penn State team as good as the one we faced yesterday. I think the whole situation can be pretty scary for some of the new guys on the team. I noticed that the offense had trouble hearing each other when the crowd was really into it. If we can play as good as we did under those circumstances, we can be competitive anywhere and against anyone. Only two games this year really concern me, and those are at CMU and at Toledo. After yesterday, though, I think we should put up an excellent fight. JD makes some great calls, even when it looks like we are donw and out for the game. I love his (and the team's) never-say-die attitude.
