  1. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...e/s_467673.htmlIn the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Didn't Know Getsy and Morelli knew each other from high school.
  2. http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/...5910.xml&coll=1Here is a nice article in the Patriot-News. Hope you enjoy it.
  3. I'll be cheering for Hoban, my Alma Mater this fall. They have the players to go undefeated this year and get the Championship in Canton. Hopefully Akron can recruit some of them for next year, because some of the players are capable of making an immediate impact of our defense.
  4. It seems like Toledo, NIU, Miami, and Akron and mabye BGSU are the only teams in our conference that are capable of making any kind of real noise in non-conference play this year. Everyone else pretty much sucks outside of the MAC. That is why the conference is ranked so low. We should leave and make a new conference together and mabye get some weak BCS teams to join, like Cincy and Marshall. We could leave all the weak teams to fend for themselves and start to build some respect.
  5. Zips Fan,I agree. CFN consistantly overrates the BCS team and underrates everyone else. I think if we went 11-1 they would only have us rated in the 30's, but if a high-profile team did the same, they would be in the top 10 without a question.
  6. Should be another good year for Akron Soccer. Mabye a NCAA championship will come our way one of these days.
  7. Lemme guess... the infamous Lot 9? That would be perfect if the stadium is going to be where I think it is. Mabye if they pave it they will charge $525 for parking.I wonder what it will be named. How about the stadium?
  8. Tell me... Did somebody link this page from another website? I'm just curious.
  9. If that is the case, I bet we will see a LOT of homes being demolished within the next few months. It should be pretty obvious because there is no real wide open location to put a stadium at the moment. The only thing I worry about is parking. Will everyone just park on campus in our 3 decks or will they flood the side streets and clog up Exchange?
  10. Top players in the nation during high school usually don't have good first years in college. Once they secure the starting job, they have nothing else to prove. Noone was better than them in high school so they don't have a chip on their shoulder to prove that they should have been given more attention. Take two of the best high school running backs ever to come from Summit county, Chris Wells and Tyrell Sutton. Wells was ranked as the #1 RB in the nation for two years in high school, but he wasn't that good because the best RB in the country should be able to propel his team to a winning record (he could not). Also, his rating gave him an ego problem; he argued with his coaches about not getting enough playing time, even though he got the ball almost every play of every game. Sutton, on the other hand, had a huge chip on his shoulder, because he rated the #37 RB in high school behind Wells, despite out rushing him when they played against each other, winning the Mr. Football award, and breaking about 30 state records, including the career rushing yards record and scoring record, and then going on to break many records in Big Ten football with Northwestern. I guess my point is that high school ratings are not indicative of talent at all. They just serve as fuel for those that get overlooked and they make big egos for those that get preferential treatment.Sorry for making you read all of that. Basically, Justin King doesn't concern me as much as the media wants.
  11. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...e/s_467444.htmlThat's the kind of news I like to here about our opponents.
  12. When we played NIU and Memphis, we played against two of the most elite running games in the country. They ran over everybody they played. There is no shame in letting two of the top 5 RBs in the nation rack up yards. They wouldn't be considered the best if they weren't able to do that. Penn State does not have such an elite back. Their running game is good, but not the best. I think that playing against Wolfe and Williams last year will give the Akron D some extremely valueable experience. They should be able to stop anyone this year.Akron's offense will be able to score, but it will be difficult to gain too much of a lead. What really concerns me is Akron's depth. We need a LOT of people to step up and carry this team through the fourth quarter. Special teams are a bit of a concern, but I think our kicking team will be as good as ever. It is our punt return unit that will give us trouble.
  13. I've been seeing Penn State fans predict a win for the Zips. They think our D has improved greatly, and they aren't exactly brimming with confidence about Morelli. Plus they only hear good things regarding Getsy. Akron 31, Penn State 28
  14. Mabye we can rent one of those "billboard" trucks you see every so often that drive around the city. If that doesn't work, we could always just have a mobile tailgate party. Start early, and move to a new area every 90 minutes making as much noise as possible.
  15. Defense is what we need more than anything this year. They keep us in games. If the D can jell in time for Penn State, expect an awesome and frighteningly close game (for Penn State anyways). I love how the D is so good, and how we have even more talented youngsters waiting to show their stuff in the coming seasons.
  16. Welcome, both of you to the Zipsnation. after last season, I'm sure that the game will be significantly more crowded than in years past. I won't be able to make the trip there because I am a student and my schedule won't allow it. I will lock myself in my room and watch it from beginning to end on the TV though. It's true...
  17. What was our ranking at the end of last year? According to ncaasports.com it was ranked #54 statistically in overall offense: #103 in rushing, #21 in passing, and #77 in scoring. This year we will be even better than that, due to Getsy's maturing as a QB, and the awesome talent at RB and WR. At the beginning of the year we were ranked way below what we were at the end of the year. Preseason speculation means nothing. Hopefully it will give them some extra motivation, though. Just for reference, the defense was ranked #32 in total defense: #52 in scoring, #71 in rushing (Playing against Garrett Wolfe twice and DeAngelo Williams in the MCB scewed the stats quite a bit), and #16 in pass defense. Also, we were ranked #90 in turnover margin (we need to improve greatly).Getsy was #71 in passing efficiency, but #22 in total offense. We will be ranked at least in the top 25 in offense and the top 10 in defense by the end of this season. I can feel it coming.

  19. Did they print this in the ABJ? That would be hilarious. I hope they see that quote and get it through their thick heads that he is telling the truth. Mabye it would change if we beat Penn State. Actually, probably not because NIU will give Teh OSU Suckeyes a real scare causing mass panic in Columbus. The suicide watch will be doing triple-overtime down there. The only way Akron would get front page would be if we played OSU in a BCS bowl. That would be awesome to have a rematch next year after we destroy them.
  20. That's why the Westfield Cup doesn't count for the season. It is preseason so that we can see what we need to improve upon before the season starts. Remember last year that the Zips beat Maryland in the Cup, but Maryland got way better after that and beat us in the NCAA tournament. If I were the coach, I would use this as an opportunity to see what went wrong and fix it. I'm glad we lost now and not during the actual season. You can learn more from losses than from wins and I hope the team is stronger because of it.
  21. Pretty good? He was the fastest man alive for a long time. He had olympic golds, world records, and he even has his own race named after him. The guy was awesome, and I've had the chance to meet him a couple of times, because he lives in Akron during the off-season. I think if the suckeyes have a "bad" season (4-5 losses), he might leave them and come here. He told me that if Akron can keep improving he wouldn't mind moving here. Of course we would have to leave the MAC and join the Big East or something to get more money, but he said he is interested.
