Another !@#$%^& away game?! OK, now that the shock has worn off, I want to try to offer an explanation for all of those away games. First, no one wants to go to the JAR. Our record there is too good and good teams are afraid to get beat. Second, the scheduling we had earlier has completely gone to hell, and we have been left scrambling to find a way to fill up our schedule. Third, why don't we fill those empty slots with home games? because last year the RPI system was changed to make wins away count more than wins at home. I believe wins at home are worth 0.8 wins and wins away are worth 1.2 wins. Conversely, losses away count as .8 losses and losses at home count as 1.2 losses. Basically, the more away games you win on your schedule, the better your RPI becomes. It is very smart to schedule many away games against decent teams we have a good chance of beating at their place. Should we screw up in the MAC tournament, all of those away games we have won will make our RPI look better when it comes time to select teams for the NCAA tournament.
