  1. Charisma and enthusiasm from a position of authority go a long way.
  2. The Rowdies swipe-in thing hasn't replaced Roowards. Nothing has. Roowards is still going on. It's just not promoted for some reason.
  3. The MAC is, as a whole, fairly young this year.
  4. Deji out with an injury. We just need one or two 3-point shooters to get hot and EMU won't be able to adjust.
  5. Tinder is essentially Hot-or-not, but with instant messaging added. You put up a profile picture on the app, and it goes into a queue of other profile pictures that people of the opposite gender get to sort through. It's all based on location, as given by your phone's GPS. If two people mutually like each other, they get a notification, and can send messages back and forth.
  6. UA hires three administrators Hiring a CIO and somebody to run the new College of Applied Science and Technology (formerly Summit College) is a much needed move.
  7. The difference between the MBC and MAC is that the MVC has two really great teams and a bunch of bad ones. The MAC has a lot of pretty good teams, but nobody stands out. Top-to-bottom, the conferences are very similar in strength. Would you like the MAC better if it had 9 Ball States one average Can't State, and one or two ranked teams? 90% of your conference schedule would be unwatchable.
  8. If they played easier OOC schedules to get better records, then about 2/3rds of their schedule would be against other teams with better schedules and so a higher RPI.
  9. If you can hit threes and score in transition, you can blow them out of the gym.
  10. The band is the reason that we don't go off script when we are trying to keep momentum during a timeout. Instead of having the MC go out and yell at the crowd with Kernkraft 400 blasting out of the speakers, the band plays the instant the whistle is blown and doesn't stop unless the script calls for it. Go to any other college basketball game and find a band that plays even half as often as Akron's. I bet you won't be able to.
  11. Toledo is in the MAC, and the MAC seeds the tournament by overall record. The divisions only exist to give teams an extra banner to hang. They're meaningless.
  12. The MAC is a top-10 conference for the first time since who knows when. http://www.rpiforecast.com/confrpi.html Above the Missouri Valley, Conference USA, Mountain West, and nearly every other mid-major.
  13. Toledo went into Buffalo and went 12-14 on 3-point attempts. That's frigging ridiculous. That's 86%. Toledo, in my mind, is the most dangerous team in the MAC. They are just built to beat the other top MAC teams. Their problem is that they struggle against bad teams (though they are usually just good enough to win).
  14. Yeah, the AD has always sat up there. The President and Bowden were sitting down low because that's where the Akron mayor's seats are.
  15. Hmm. This could mean a few different things. Here's hoping that he's heard from somebody that Akron has found a QB and he would have to sit for a few years and so he opened things back up.
  16. Student attendance of 1450, but overall attendance was still under 5k.
  17. We were even higher before losing at Ohio.
  18. In the past seven games, six have been decided in the last few possessions. This team is young, but they don't show any quit and that's paid off more often than not. These aren't slow grind-it-out MAC games from years past, either.
  19. He just set a new NCAA record of 19' 3.5". Just ridiculous.
  20. I think you and some others completely and entirely missed my point when I brought up NIU. I'm using them as an example that the ratings are garbage and that it's stupid to worry about where some morons who are not good enough to get hired as recruiting coordinators rank our recruiting class. So they put us last in the MAC. Who cares what they have to say? I bet I've seen more film of our recruits than they have. I bet that every single person posting in this thread knows more about our recruits than they do.
  21. Fill positions that are going to graduate one year ahead of schedule so the replacements have a year of learning and strength training before we throw them into the fire.
  22. The 2014 class was full of players at positions where we were very deep and talented. It was almost entirely defensive positions. Look johnnyzip84's list that was posted above.
  23. I used NIU because they're always ranked 90 or worse going back many years, below so many teams that they are clearly better than. The rankings ARE meaningless. That's my point. So if you think that NIU's ranking is meaningless, then why are you using those same rankings as a reason to bitch about Akron's high school recruiting?
  24. The hyperbole in this thread is making me nauseous. Bowden has said time and again that he wants to redshirt any and all freshmen he recruits if at all possible. At what point last season would you have suggested that we burn our redshirts in the hopes of turning things around? When we were 4-3 with 5 games to go? Even at 4-4, there was hope of winning the MAC East and going bowling. Would you burn redshirts with four games left and a shot at the division? The season didn't really go down the tubes until there were only three games remaining. How do you judge a recruiting class that hasn't stepped foot on the field?
  25. Give me a break. When Jacob Harrison (2016 QB) committed to Akron, he had four stars and was top-10 nationally at his position. After committing to Akron, they dropped him to two stars and removed him from the position rankings completely. Did he suddenly start sucking at football? When two-star players commit to a SEC team, they magically gain an extra star.
