  1. I'm not certain "just short of UT-level talent" is enough to win the MAC any more.
  2. I think the Zips are good defensively against most offensive looks, but one place where they fail miserably is defending in transition and against slashers.
  3. Here's the synopsis: A lot of people are jealous of Calipari, but he's working within the rules. Dambrot likes Bobby Hurley and what he's done at Buffalo.Doesn't like the graduate transfer rule but thinks if a coach leaves a player should be able to leave, too. It's important to spend time with your players off the court. At the mid-major level you don't really have to deal with the seedy AAU stuffLeBron, Lebron, LebronInevitable that a 30-second shot clock will come to college basketballNCAA scoring is at an all-time lowDefensively, Akron was as good as its ever been, but offensively we struggledDoesn't like the media timeouts. NCAA will likely eliminate one timeout, maybe more.I'd encourage anybody to listen for themselves.
  4. Another layer of exclusivity on top of the Rowdies. And another way to keep an eye on the most passionate students. Only approved methods of fandom can be allowed.
  5. Looks like a Pulp Smoothies is moving in by Chipotlé and Penn Station. I think that if a Panera opened up there or in Quaker it would be a goldmine from the catering side alone.
  6. An easy statement to make since the MAC doesn't hold championships in Indiana anyways.
  7. GT: Akron on way to filling hole at Running Back
  8. Even better: You can listen to it as a podcast: http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2015/03/31/keith-dambrot-on-ncaa-shot-clock-its-inevitable-that-rule-is-going-to-change-its-going-to-be-a-30-second-shot-clock/
  9. Maybe Woodson wants to move to the OL?
  10. Expect the subject of discussion to revolve around LeBron.
  11. The show runs from 2-7. Don't know what time the interview will be, but they usually do a rundown of what they have scheduled at the beginning of the show.
  12. Officials from Department of Defense, University of Akron meet to discuss issues at corrosion center
  13. Zips play at Canisius on Wednesday.
  14. Not like this, you haven't.
  15. http://newsok.com/columbus-travelblog-wrong-museum-in-canton/article/5404101 Some Oklahoma basketball fans were traveling through the area the other day. Mostly focuses on Canton, but they stopped in Akron to check out Infocision Stadium. Sometimes perspective on cities like Akron and Canton is lost for people from Ohio, because of geography and Ohio having plenty of large cities. In a state like Oklahoma (and many other states out west not named Texas or California), Akron would be considered a major metropolitan center. Also, he was mistaken about the Metropolitan Statistical Area including Canton. Canton is in its own Area, with another 400k residents. Anyway, it's a good read. It's fun to see an outsider's perspective.
  16. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-83087806/ Here's a great article on the MAC and the new TV deal that I pulled from the Miami board.
  17. Saw this on NIU's board. There's a whole lot to talk about here. Who would have guessed that Akron now leads the MAC in athletics spending? http://chicagofootball.com/2015/03/23/behind-the-numbers-where-mac-athletic-departments-rank-in-spending-profit/a8ax3qd/
  18. The other decent MAC programs have hit more often than they've missed on their coaching hires. The law of averages says that eventually they'll miss, and the damage done could cause them to fall off and make it more difficult for them to attract another good coach.
  19. Agreed.
  20. Last day to vote! http://review.wizehive.com/voting/sullivan2015
  21. He can and likely will take some recruits and players with him.
  22. I'm not sure how recent move-ups have changed. I was under the impression that, for the most part, the programs already fit the profile before making the move. That's why JMU is so intriguing to me. They have a $40 million athletic budget, a football stadium that shames most of the MAC, and are building a huge new basketball convocation center. JMU is one of the last holdouts of the big-time eastern FCS programs. The rest have already moved up or have de-emphasized football.
  23. The MAC's TV money under the new deal signed this past summer isn't much. Whoever was negotiating on behalf of the MAC really, severely screwed up and left the MAC short-changed compared to similarly-positioned conferences such as C-USA and the MWC. MAC schools only get $600k/year under the new deal, which they are locked into for more than a decade. FBS playoff money is where a bigger boost would come from. The MAC gets a minimum of $1 million per school per year. Bowl payouts add another $500k. That puts YSU at $16.7m just for moving up. Still significantly less than any MAC school, and most of that extra money would be to fund the additional 44 scholarships (22 more for football, and 22 women's scholarships for Title IX balancing). They would still need to come up with at least $4 million more annually to fit with what the MAC is looking for.
  24. Interestingly, EKU is making a major push for FBS status right now, but their focus is directed at the Sun Belt.
  25. Zips also got a commitment from MF Jesus Perez, who is Sabbi's teammate on Chicago Magic PSG.
