  3. http://www.blackshoediaries.com/2014/6/5/5780344/im-afraid-ive-got-some-bad-news-akron-edition-penn-state-football A Penn State blogger tries to come up with reasons why Penn State will beat Akron. It's not very convincing.
  4. Have to hand it to Western's coach. He's probably the best recruiter the MAC has ever seen. Too bad he makes Rob Ianello look like Jim Harbaugh when it comes to gameday prep and playcalling.
  5. http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2014/06/penn_state_to_pay_umass_and_ak.html Both Akron and UMass are getting payed $850,000 to play in Happy Valley.
  6. It's too bad, but something had to give. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.
  7. It's still something that can be exploited, if you get a Pell grant or outside scholarship on top of your UA scholarship they'll still stack. It's just that now UA won't be footing the bill.

  9. If she lived on campus, it would be completely paid for. She can either take advantage of what's offered for free, or pay to have something better. Welcome to the real world. End of the day, this is a minor move. It doesn't affect private or government scholarships, which is what a large majority of students have. Most of the support behind this "student movement" comes from a position of ignorance or misinformation. This move is a benefit to the student body.
  10. http://www.hustlebelt.com/2014/6/2/5773448/akron-modifies-scholarship-distribution-students-not-thrilled A rational look at the changes to UA's scholarship system.
  11. http://priceonomics.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-book-your-favorite-band/ This is a great guide to see how much it costs to bring in a band for a show.
  12. Have to think that any hardcore high school basketball fan in the county would be voting YES as well. OHSAA playoff games and big rivalry games would be much better served with a new arena.
  13. Marshall reminds me a lot of Michigan last season. Stop their QB, and you have a chance. They'll be over-confident and under-talented at many positions, but they have a playmaker at QB.
  14. http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/053014aaa.html Phil Fives has transferred to Indiana.
  15. The juniors have only ever had Bowden's coaching staff during their playing career. They had Ianello for one season if they redshirted, but that's it. Is it really that much to expect them to be pretty far along with their development?
  16. Don't see anybody beating out Pohl's senior season. If we had a Qb that was that good, we would start him now.
  17. Yes. By the time a player is a junior, they should be at at least 90% of the way through their "development" as a college player. Especially if they've already seen significant playing time, and especially if they've had the same coaching staff for several years.
  18. The OL play wasn't bad if you look at it in a vacuum, but having two QBs hobbled by injury and a group of RBs that could never hit the open holes made the OL look like they weren't very good. If Chisholm would just learn to commit to running straight without stutter-stepping, or trying to run some kind of slow sweep, the OL would look great. It wasn't their fault.
  19. Myerberg is one of the best when it comes to these pre-season write-ups, though I think he's giving a little too much credit to Marshall being an automatic loss. We're actually their toughest road game, and they're a bad road team. They play such a laughably awful schedule that they could get 10 wins and still be considered in the bottom third of the FBS.

  21. Paul Myerberg's USA Today countdown entry for Akron should be tomorrow, with the Zips coming in at #94.

  23. ESPN's Mark Schlabach has Akron playing in the Camellia Bowl. Played in Montgomery, AL.
  24. We catch Penn State between playing UCF and Rutgers, and we'll have two extra days of rest/preparation.
  25. It's on ESPN3, bit it's hit-or-miss. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/1826449/
