  1. There are still a few traditional classrooms in the JAR, on the north end. Aside from that, when the bleachers are pushed back, the floorspace is used as "lab" space for physical education classes.
  2. Kincade and Caleb Chapman will redshirt. Travon Chapman will sit out due to transfer rules. Devyn Wood is a walk-on. That leaves four active QBs, which is much more reasonable. Pohl is starting. Hirschman has game experience and will likely be the primary back-up. Then Tommy Woodson is coming off his redshirt year, and Matt Hoyer becomes eligible after sitting out last year as a transfer. Woodson was highly rated as a recruit coming in. Hoyer is a true dark horse with an excellent mentor in his older brother, an NFL QB.
  3. Yes, same as if he were transferring directly from a D-I school.
  4. I always thought that College Soccer and Baseball should trade seasons. You could have college cups in northern cities, and you could have October college baseball.
  5. I'm so Akron, I have a "Frye for Heisman" sign.
  6. I would guarantee they exist. The tax plan is the one you try first, because it's the cheapest for the university and it makes the city and county leaders happy. As for anybody not liking the plan because UA is on the hook for operating expenses if it is in the red, that's still many millions of dollars cheaper than financing construction of the arena and then operating it independently without aid from the county. You are either paying for operating expenses, or paying for operating expenses while in debt from the construction costs.
  7. http://www.cleveland.com/akron/index.ssf/2014/07/imsoakron_why_are_you_so_akron.html Putting aside any conversation about how journalism has devolved to the point of copying and pasting a bunch of inane tweets, it's cool that an organic civic pride movement popped up in Akron and then became popular enough that other cities co-opted it.
  8. Beer coasters! Somebody needs to print some of these up with the Zips schedule and send them to every bar in the area.
  9. ATH Jaquavis Dixon has committed to the Zips. A link to his Hudl profile can be found in the first post of the thread.
  10. Watch media day here: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/1887641 Coach Bowden comes on at about the 20-minute mark. He looks right at home in front of the cameras, especially compared to the rest of the MAC coaches.

  14. http://gozips.com/sports/fball/2014-15/releases/20140723vvvser Picked to finish 2nd in the East, with three first-place votes. Also, one media voter picked Akron to win the MAC Championship.
  15. Opening thoughts from George Thomas Hustlebelt bloggers poll has Akron finishing second in the MAC East.
  16. The idea of Canal Park was sold to the voters as a way to pull the Canton-Akron Indians into downtown Akron. Some wanted it because they saw it as a way to revitalize downtown. Others wanted it because they couldn't stand the fact that the team was in Canton instead of Akron. Sell the arena on the prospect of pulling the Canton Charge away. Sell it on local pride, and the idea that Akron shouldn't be overlooked for a city less than half its size and twice as far from the affiliated NBA team. Sell it on the idea that the fact that we don't have a civic arena is a slight on the city and the county. People around here hate it when their home is slighted, and react strongly to it.
  17. Added composite 3-star WR/RB Donterio Fowler to the commitment list. http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/lakewood-grad-donterio-fowler-commits-akron/20650/
  18. http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/lakewood-grad-donterio-fowler-commits-akron/20650/ Went to prep school, and will enroll in January, making him an early enrollee for the 2015 class. We want to use him at both WR and RB.

  22. Is anybody else really looking forward to ruining Marshall's season? I've never seen a more horrendously weak schedule. They're talking undefeated, and we would be too if that was our schedule. We're the toughest game they have, and we'll be coming off of a bye week.
