+1We can't fiill up the JAR on a consistent basis. It's not like our arena is right beside the Rubber Bowl. We don't need to pay for the upkeep of a 12k seat arena when we can build it a block down the street and benefit just as much.

Most Beautiful Thing You Ever Saw?
bandzip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
VERY interested.I've been trying to get the graphics departments and GoZips people to make wallpapers for years. No reply.I recommend using the Gallery Here at the Nation. It's under utilized and would keep things together without needed thread bumping or searching.Go Zips!Started!Akron Zips ArtI uploaded 21 images, still have a ton but for some reason it won't let me put anymore on...So many to pick from! You Rock! Someone needs to call the marketing department and get you a paycheck. -
You had to start another topic about this for...?

Let's Hope Zeke Marshall Isn't a Football Fan
bandzip replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips Football
Have you graduated yet? If you have you should apply to be a featured comedian next year.Rodgers does not suck. He has no help from his receivers(see Bowser pulling a Braylon Edwards in the first half) or his o-line(see the 0.3 seconds he has after the snap before the pocket collapses). There is a reason he was second string behind Jac.Oh let me get this straight we lost the game because Bowser dropped one pass...is this stupid post day? This whole thread is stupid post of the day. -

My thoughts exactly.

Apparently you didn't watch the same game, Mrs. Nicely.FYI, Rodger's passer efficiency rating for this game was 119.31, and that doesn't take into consideration the two touchdowns he ran for. What does that take into consideration? The 0 interceptions he threw. This game was lost by our defense, there's no doubt about that (they could have put up 55 points on us). It's nearly impossible to overcome that sort of point value. You also have to consider that we didn't just play any team. CMU is traditionally a good team. Do you remember what they did last week? Upset a Big 10 team come to mind? They are probably still playing off the high from that victory.Rodgers has some potential. Give this sophomore some time to develop (and get rid of all of those screens!) and you'll see more improvement on top of what we saw today.Develop! Look at the way he passes the ball, he's not the answer period. He looks to run first and can not throw the ball down the field Mrs. RodgersLike the 35 yard pass Bowser dropped?

LeFevour had all day to pick a receiver and if he couldn't find one he'd run for the first down every time.

Rodgers didn't look absolutely terrible. He had a great pass to Bowser that was dropped, and when the coaches had him throwing downfield at the end of the game he made some really nice passes. Both touchdowns were scored by him running. Does he have things he needs to improve on? Yes. I understand it was crappy weather but you can't keep dropping the ball like that. On the plus side he threw 0 interceptions vs. a very good CMU defense compared to 4 against Indiana last week. Those short little dump passes were absolutely terrible, but then again, why are the coaches calling the same plays that have him throwing to receivers behind the line of scrimage? Regardless of whether they catch them or not the play isn't going to net any yardage. Why call for Rodgers head when the playcalling and O-line both drastically need to improve?

About that overrated quarterback....

Thanks! The subtle changes you noticed were 6 to 5 instead of 8 to 5 step size during run on and a new arrangement of Rock and Roll #2 where everyone is playing the whole time instead of just the low brass. Halftime we added some more park and bark sections and a ton of horn to the box moves. I think the biggest difference between the Info and the RB is simply that when there are people sitting in the seats the sound gets absorbed into peoples bodies rather than bouncing around off the stands. When we rehearse in there with the stadium empty it is LOUD. Unfortunately the reason it seemed 2-3x louder may be because there were 10k less people there this week...

A new quarterbacks first start is against a Big Ten team with a solid defense in a game that he didn't even dream he'd be playing in until the day before. He's probably taken one practice worth of snaps with the 1st string. Maybe the problem is NO Akron FAN should be booing ANY Akron player, especially a quarterback thrown into those circumstances, unless they did something to warrant suspension for the rest of the season and put the team in a very tight spot. Anyone who cared about Akron sports would've told you to shut up.

Can't get much more contradictory than that...Not quite contradictory - Akron beat Ohio State before OSU joined the Big 10, so we've never beaten a Big Ten team, but we did defeat a school who later joined the Big Ten.Not to mention Akron was still Buchtel College.

This just in: IT'S A SELLOUT!!!!! First in 56 years (?) of Zips Futbol. Can anyone guess the attendance figure? 3000...4000...5000...More?Probably less than 3k. More reason to get a new soccer stadium!

i concurWhat about the pep band that's coming? Can't we get credit for a goal? Bad news. Since athletics is expecting a sell out and having to turn students away they don't want a pep band at the game tomorrow to save as much space as possible...

On a related note, I was heading to the Union today around noon and saw a 7 foot tall kid in an Akron Basketball Shirt and huge basketball shoes noticeably limping past Guzzetta...

We did a John Williams show two years ago where we played Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Olympic Theme. We performed it at at least two home games and Bands in the Bowl...

Even with a new stadium, some things never change.
-
Noted. We're doing a show to commemorate 50 years since the day the music died. American Pie will be performed right before the traditional America ending with all of the highschool bands playing too. It'll start slow just like the original (minus labout 5 verses) and then pick up from there.

Respectfully disagree. We've gotten a lot of helpful feedback from this thread that wouldn't have been gained by viewing passively. I do say that many posters need to stop taking it as personally as they are. If people say we lacked energy, maybe to them it felt that way, let's figure out why. If people say run on needs to change then maybe there's something to that, let's look into it. If people want us to expand the traveling band idea then we should look into it. I try to just explain why we can't do certain things and move on. If you want an idea of what makes these topics go downhill then take a look at the "New Band Related Info Traditions" thread. Stop telling people it's hard and you try as hard as you can becuse they don't care. They want it better. Even Mr. Karriker says, "As soon as you get to where I want you to be, I'm going to push you a step farther, that's what's going to make you a great band."
