Too Much Noise at Tonight's ORU Game
bandzip replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
That is EXACTLY the same kind of complaints I've heard from my gf and a couple of her friends sitting in GA for every single game. -
do you really think ohio state is really stealing recruits from us? They recruit more on a national scale. If they had some bad seasons that would help the likes of Penn State, Michigan, Florida, Texas. The teams stealing recruits from us are our conference opponents and middle of the road AQ teams like Syracuse and Cinci. Keep 'em comin They have stolen recruits from us in soccer (well not anymore), basketball, football, baseball...etc. Seriously, it happens all of the time. I don't have time to dig up examples, so ill let someone else (probably ZachtheZip). Prime Example

If there is some kind of suspension hopefully it takes effect for the first game of next year rather than their bowl game here in a week. A bunch of guys filling in against lowly Akron is a perfect storm for a fun game in Columbus. Heck, if I remember right last time we played them we were winning at the half. Maybe ICoach can turn this thing around and pull off an upset. A guy can dream right?

Having been a lab partner with Valentin he isn't a terrible student, he does his work, but let's just say he's a better soccer player than a lab partner. Haha.

let me summarize how this usually goes down Random zn member) our band needs to do more. random band member who has a 6th sense for when someone is talking smack to the band on the internet("band kid" for short)) we work really hard!! it's hard to do what we do. we put a lot of time into it! zn) ya'll should dance. why don't you dance? band kid) we play music, and work hard. R4R) I hate the band and everything it stands for. band kid) you don't even know what your talking about R4R's GF) I marched in the 110 and am therefor better than everyone on Gods green earth, and everyone in Ohio's Pride should be ashamed of themselves for being the worst human beings on the face of the earth hundreds of band kids come out of the wood work and 20 pages later we all agree to disagree. I know this because I used to be the one with the 6th sense. Haha. If Zipsnation had a "like" button I'd hook you up. Pretty much a perfect summary.

My girlfriend and a few of her friends sit up top every game and sing along to the fight song and get up to cheer. They end up on the screen at some point every game. She complains to me after every game how people tell them to be quiet and sit down or how people leave with 2 minutes left in the game. I think your suggestion would lead to a lot of annoyed people sitting up top where they frankly don't seem to care and really hurt the atmosphere down below. Or you can give them instruments and they can still cheer like normal students in seats that would otherwise be empty.... Maybe they should make the student section an actual student section instead of an exclusive Rowdies section when they can't fill it up. Already addressed the upper seats and their involvement. I may be wrong but I think a majority of people purchasing reserved seats would rather sit where they can see all the action on both sides of the court than sitting behind the basket leading to more empty seats. I think moving 40 students or so up top and having them farther from the action hurts the already dull atmosphere and isn't as good as having them on the court. As far as the Rowdies being united, with the numbers who showed up yesterday they could all sit behind the baskets opposite the band and still have some elbow room. Now, if we consistently fill up the student sections and the lower reserve sections get involved the game with anything less than a game winning shot then I have no issue with moving the band to try and fire up the GA sections. Until then it makes absolutely no sense. I'm not trying to cause problems or attack anyone, but I honestly don't see any way that moving the band is a good idea.

Can someone explain how making more empty seats helps? Even if there are two seats taken up per band member (which there aren't) there are still tons of empty seats. Heck, the whole drumline came and stood by the band for the first half and the other side was still 75% empty. The only time it was/will be an issue every year is high school band day and the Can't came when half the people down below are sitting down and/or texting the whole time instead of cheering.

Yeah, because then a hundred more students would show up and there would be no empty seats.... Let's use some common sense.

Just wait til Friday...

A lot of their points came from threes with a hand in their face or Zeke nearly blocking it. They were just knocking them down at the end of the game and we couldn't get anything going. We put up little "3" signs every time we hit one. A grand total of 3 tonight. Live by the three...

Suprised no one has mentioned my personal favorite play call sequence of the game. It went something like this: 1st and 10 at AKR 40 Patrick Nicely pass complete to Antoine Russell for 56 yards to the WMich 4, tackled by Doug Wiggins for a 1ST down. 1st and Goal at WMU 4, Alex Allen rush for no gain to the WMich 4, tackled by Raheam Buxton. 2nd and Goal at WMU 4, Alex Allen rush for 3 yards to the WMich 1, tackled by Jamail Berry. 3rd and Goal at WMU 1, WESTRN MICHIGAN penalty 0 yard offside accepted, no play. 3rd and Goal at WMU 1, Alex Allen rush for no gain to the WMich 1, tackled by Doug Wiggins and Lewis Toler. 4th and Goal at WMU 1, Alex Allen rush for a loss of 2 yards to the WMich 3, tackled by Dex Jones. Five times in a row Alex Allen ran to the left for no gain or a loss, all inside the opponents FIVE YARD LINE! For pete's sake mix it up a little bit, put Burney in, play action pass, quarterback keeper, SOMETHING!

Infocision Stadium, opened 2009: First Sell Out: Sept 12, 2009 (first game) 27,881 Dix Stadium, opened in 1969: "Although many crowds have come close, Dix Stadium has never officially been sold out for a Can't State game. The largest Can't State football crowd ever at Dix Stadium was 27,363 on November 10, 1973 for a game versus Miami University.[2] The stadium was, however, sold out in August 1980 for a scrimmage between the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills and nearly sold out for a November 28, 1998 high school playoff game between Cleveland St. Ignatius and Canton McKinley."

Zips soccer will outdraw...
bandzip replied to jem101's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I was thinking the same thing watching that bizarre extra innings game last night. It sounded like they had a mic on 5 guys who were heckling the other team to no end. It was actually pretty entertaining. The weather definately didn't help either. -
Ok, NOW the sky is falling.

I've seen too many of Igor's low-liner kicks to ever feel good about kicking in that situation. 4th-and-2, on the opponent's 23...you go for it every time. At least until we recruit a real kicker. If Igor continues to kick, that exact play will happen again in 2010. As soon as he sent special teams out on that play I turned to my roomate, who I dragged to his first Akron game in two years, and said "This isn't going to end well."

I thought the defense played really well. Anyone who was worried about Wagner taking a step back can forget about that. He had a huge gain on an interception and quite a few very nice tackles. Penalties on offense were atrocious. If I remember correctly there were 3 just in the first series. When they did get to start the play the offensive line did a great job for protecting Nicely on passes, though they couldn't open a hole for the running game if their lives depended on it. Nicely looked good when he had someone open, and WAY too many passes were dropped. He showed that he can do a good job of avoiding pressure and at least making his way back to the line of scrimmage. We really need someone to step up at receiver besides LaFrance. I felt bad for Nicely because he almost never had anyone open to throw to. One series at the end of the second quarter I believe he had three perfect passes, all of which were dropped. What is wrong with special teams? Are we going to have to suffer through another year of blocked/botched field goals? That really took us out of the game in the 3rd quarter. On the opposite side the punting squad looked great. Campbell was really booting them and with the exception of that bogus kick catch interference call they did a great job with coverage. I've still got some hope for this squad still. I think there's a good chance that by the time the MAC season starts we'll have things figured. Tonight was definately not a reason to fire the coach, the marketing department on the other hand...
