Call me crazy, but the box score has McNees down as 0 turnovers, and a team high three assists in 30 minutes.... Humpty had three turnovers in 17 minutes, and Steward 2 in 5 minutes. You sure you want someone else running the point?

PK's....

Malone was totally outmatched, but if we would play with the same intensity and desire they do we could beat any team we play. They never quite fighting even when they were down 20 and we played like absolute crap. That was a weird game to watch.

Zips by 14.... within the first five minutes.

Attendance was much better than I expected. Pregame was ten minutes early or so for senior day adn when we started run on there were maybe 100 people in the stands. One thing really stood out to me all day. If you find a picture of the game you'll notice that there were more red Ohio State coats in the stadium then Akron or Eastern Mich colors combined.

New Parking Garage on Exchange
bandzip replied to scottditzen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Spoken like someone who has absolutely no clue what parking is like on this campus on a day to day basis. Honestly, I haven't even read the rest of your post after that. You lost all credibility with that one point right there. Parking has been a nightmare on this campus all year. It is not unusual to have a student miss a good chunk of a class because they have spent 45 minutes or more circling multiple lots just hoping that they spot someone backing out of a parking place. This deck is an absolute necessity and whatever complaints you have about it are without any type of valid reason.Parking IS that much worse today. We're at record enrollment and the parking has not kept up with that at all. It's at the point now that if you don't get to campus by 8-8:30 in the morning you can plan on spending at least 45 minutes trying to find a spot and that includes the furthest lots from campus like the Polsky deck. The deck addition is a necessity. I've been here for the last 7 years, 4 as an undergrad and now on my third of law school. I've never seen parking as bad as it was this semester. This is my third year at UA and first year as a commuter. Honestly, you can find a spot any time of day, but you have to be willing to walk to get to class. The overflow lot on Market across from the Speedway always has spots, even at noon when people are circling North Deck for hours. Quaker is another good place to check and you can ride the Roo Express to the circle by Guzzetta. This is probably more about planning for the future with the new dorms and increased enrollment then anything else. Could it be better designed? I suppose you could add some shops and such in the bottom level, but if parking has the potential to be an even bigger problem in the near future might as well add the extra floor of parking space. -
When I counted right before halftime it was two to our left and 14 to the right, and I don't think one of them is enrolled this semester.regardless of who is there, you guys do a helluva job and are a highlight of the gameday experience.Thanks. These last couple games down the stretch here we were just trying to give people something to watch and keep ourselves entertained by cheering on the team, especially at the Temple game... This was my third, and by far best year so far. Regardless of what's happening on the field, things are really looking up for the band in the coming years.

I was wondering the same thing. Almost seemed like KD just wanted to prove they could win without him. Anyone have any info?

Did anyone else notice that Zeke played a whopping 0 minutes in the second half? Did he get hurt or was KD trying to prove they could win without him? Any info?

New Parking Garage on Exchange

In the not-so-long-run I think you will see this work out well for the campus and its image. What really makes the UA campus "scream commuter school" is if the university and downtown area blob together as an indistinguishable one. And, while I agree with you when you say downtown needs the campus, I disagree with you when you imply that the relationship works in the opposite direction. That is ABJ and Mayor Don's propaganda. UA does not need downtown at all. Politicians want us to think that but it is a lie. UA is a big fat milk gorged tit and downtown is a big fat selfish baby trying to suck on that tit at every opportunity. I think we will see Exchange Street in the area of UA be closed off just like Buchtel and Carroll. They are talking about it and they are also talking about making the UA campus have a better and autonomous identity separate from the downtown syndrome that so many Akron dinosaurs refuse to let go of. You will see more integration of the campus than you think and you strike me as someone who has the good vision that will be pleased by this integration of the campus with itself. This will include many things and among them will be a multi-purpose University of Akron Basketball Arena located conspicuously in the heart of the true UA campus near, if not east of the campus football stadium.Go Zips!Jake, all you're going to accomplish is getting another thread locked. We know what you think about campus/downtown. Stop. -

Only a couple seconds left in the game, Zips were inbounding and the guy covering Humpty was throwing elbows and they weren't getting called. Humpty got the inbound and instead of the UAPB guy just fouling him he shoved Humpty to the floor. Humpty got up and wrapped his arms around the kid and kept saying "You don't do that to me!" McNees ripped Humpty off the kid and threw him on the floor. Humpty made his foul shots. I was trying to watch while we were playing the fightsong when the clock wound down. Humpty let the kid hear about it again after the game. The head coach for Arkansas said something to Humpty and he went off and got in his face, that's when one of the officers pushed him away and two of the coaches pulled him to the locker room. At this point all of the players were yelling and Tom Wistcrill went over and it looked like he was aplogizing to the other coach, he then followed the team in the direction of the locker room....It was a hard foul, but Humpty has to learn to keep his cool. He was already going off on Roberts for letting a pass go out of bounds seconds earlier. If he would've got T'd up it definately could have cost us the game. Stupid move on his part. It'll be interesting to see if anything more comes out of this.

Me too, someone named Amanda something as a user name? -
Just got back from the game. I think 2k is a pretty generous estimate for attendance, though I'm definately no pro at estimating crowds. Zeke had three blocked shots within about 5 seconds. I'm not sure if they all showed up on the stat sheet but the place went CRAZY! You could see from the stands how just his presence shifted the game in Akron's favor. KD had some crazy line-ups in there. Beginning of the second half they put Zeke and Bardo in, along with our taller guards and C. McKnight. NO ONE in the MAC will be able to score on that defense. Zeke and Bardo completely shut down the inside. I know Mount is DIII but I think this game served as a good way to get the confidence up for the team. The Rowdies "Stick with Football" chant was classic. I liked what I saw from Sullivan, he was always thinking and always involved in every play. He'll make a great point guard soon. On the downside, Humpty seemed to be off all night. Had a couple turnovers and took a lot of horrendous shots along with a few turnovers. Sweich was still making some pretty lame mistakes when he was playing in junk time and KD was letting him hear about it. I wouldn't expect to see him much during the season. Other than that the team looked absolutely fantastic. Can't wait until the first home game!

I've decided the time is really an irrelevant factor in this statement.

Reasons Why Can't State Sucks 1. Akron leads the all time series 29-20-3. Can't does hold the slight advantage in Wagon Wheel games at 19-18-1, though it's only because they didn't come up with the idea of having a trophy when they lost the first ten games played between the two teams... 2. The school names/mascots. In 1925 a campus-wide contest had been conducted to choose a nickname for the University of Akron's athletic teams. Suggestions submitted by students, faculty and alumni included Golden Blue Devils, Tip Toppers, Rubbernecks, Hillbillies, Kangaroos and Cheveliers. The winner, freshman Margaret Hamlin, received a prize of $10 for "Zippers" -- a $6 pair of rubber overshoes and a brand name of the B. F. Goodrich Company, based out of Akron, Ohio. Originally known as the "Zippers," athletic director Kenneth "Red" Cochrane officially shortened the nickname to the "Zips" in 1950. "Zippy" the kangaroo was officially declared The University of Akron's mascot on May 1, 1953. Chairman of a committee to suggest a mascot, Zips All-American diver Bob Savoy recommended the kangaroo and it was approved by the student council."It is an animal that is fast, agile and powerful with undying determination -- all of the necessary qualities of an athlete." Though an odd nickname, with a little bit of research one can easily find what a Zip is. Can't State on the other hand has had a whole mess of problems with their mascot, in fact, they've had 8 different ones since 1920 and it has changed as recently as last year for reasons ranging from student outrage to complaints by the animal rights group PETA. I'm not going to waste my time talking about the subject since there is already a great facebook group about it: http://te-in.facebook.com/group.php?gid=41693711957 Feel free to join the group... When they ask you what a Zip is at the game, TELL THEM! Then ask them what the heck a flush is, no one really knows, it's one of life's great mysteries... 3. .13. A DUI and countless other on and off court violations later, the AD and University still lets students like this play: That's just ONE example. Not to mention the football coach threatening to burn down NCAA headquarters earlier in the year... 4. The fact that Can't felons, err.. I mean... students... fall for the same trick with the Can't StateCKS banner, year, after year, after year, after year, after year... And every year, THEY'RE THE ONE'S HOLDING IT!!! 5. The KSMGF, (that's Can't State Marching Golden flushes, which sounds no where near as cool as Ohio's Pride) uses microphones and speakers so their fans can hear the band. The school also gives visiting team bands much better seats then they do their own band. WTF? Apparently the administration has even more problems then would be suggested by "Can't read, Can't write, Can't State." 6. The first sold out game at the Rubber Bowl occured in 1961, when the 31,000 seat stadium was over full capacity as 35,061 fans watched the Zips defeat Dennison University 20-0. Several more followed, mostly occuring at the Acme-Zip game. After the first home game this year Infocision Stadium/Summa Field has had more sell outs then have ever occured in the history of Can't State Football's Dix (pronounced dicks..) Stadium. With the exception of a Cleveland Browns preseason game in 1980 vs. the Buffalo Bills the 40 year old stadium has never sold out. They even removed the seats from the south endzone two years ago to drop the capacity from 30,000 to 25,000... 7. Lamest fight song ever. Their own students even agree... Ladies and Gentlemen, I think the facts speak for themselves on why tomorrow is so important. Do you really want to give a school with that many issues any reason to celebrate? Come to the game tomorrow with all the Rowdiness you can muster. EACH AND EVERY PERSON MATTERS!!! Here's proof from last years game: . It's 12:45 am on gameday and Can't STATE STILL SUCKS!!! SEE YOU AT THE GAME!!!

Can we make some of these for the soccer team?
-
Marching band, intermurals, soccer and other teams on occasion. soccer? why would the soccer team practice/play soccer next to the soccer field and not in it? Besides, a football field does not accomodate a soccer game very well. Marching Band can practice in Info. Also, that photo of the marching band that you posted looks like they are playing in the Field House. So, there are two resources for the band not counting the practice football field. And maybe I'm not on campus enough but I've never seen intramurals and other teams including soccer on the football practice field. Outside of marching band and varsity football practice, that piece of land seems pretty unused. If the soccer field can't be in good enough shape for a NCAA playoff game with a week to get it ready and never practicing on it what makes you think it's a good idea for them to practice on it everyday? Practicing on turf obviously isn't hurting their game at all. Football practices are right before and overlapping band rehearsal and they're in the Info unless it's cold or rainy out in which case they take the field house. The fieldhouse it's usually taken over by indoor track and field with the softball or baseball team hitting around in the net batting cages. On Fridays when there is an away game the band has the opportunity to use fieldhouse if it's crappy weather out. If it's not raining we almost ALWAYS take Shrank because the fans going in the fieldhouse are loud and it's very hard to hear instructions. It's also near impossible to work on music in that space because it echoes forever making it extremely difficult to hear details of what's going on.

Can we get a troll smiley?

How did you come up with that? A tie game and the defense is looking outstanding. Offense has made huge improvements. Take away a freshman mistake by Nicely and fumble by Torrence and we're up 14. No offense, but I hope you have to eat it.

And Torrence getting some carries... and fumbling...

I mentioned in a thread a couple of weeks ago that he was limping pretty bad on the way to class and everyone thought I was joking. I did see him a couple of days ago and he looked to be walking just fine then. Get better big guy!
