I agree Jake, until they move the Polsky building and Quaker Inn conspicuously into the center of campus, they will not truly be a part of campus. If you'd stop being juvenile perhaps you could understand adult thinking and not be so intellectually dishonest. Really, you argue like an eight year old. I'm just greatful this blog doesn't represent any genuine example of those who support UA. The answer to the Polsky building is for. The answer for QS is for UA to make it look more integrated. Your failed attempt at wit and sarcasm really makes you look very stupid and small. Actually I don't think anyone has a problem with Quaker Square or Polsky, except for you. But you seem to have a problem with everything, and everyone... Why would UA want to sell polsky? just because it's across the street? thats a good idea. I had to cross the street today to get to InfoCision Stadium. I guess the best thing to do with the stadium is for UA to sell it. I had to cross a parking lot to get to the Union today, should probably sell it too.

You are an idiot. The Rubber Bowl was obviously not part of campus and no one ever said it was. But it still belonged to UA. There's a difference between having to drive 5 miles to get to the RB, or crossing the street to Polsky or Quaker. They aren't scattering buildings all over the city? and YOU are the one obsessing about the arena. I could care less, and honestly I don't think it will be built in 10 years, if ever. You find ways to bring that up with every topic. I actually have a life...

gotta get a closer video of the swim teams dance.

Impact of UA Sports and Infocision on the City

just spent the last couple hours youtube'ing the bluecoats. Im sold. Ill be there. I've been complaining about the lack of concerts at InfoCision Stadium, but I was hoping for something along the lines of Jay-Z, Dave Matthews, not really interested in a marching band... -
I followed the link and Torrence did not break any of those laws, unless I am misunderstanding. I am not a lawyer, nor an Ohio resident, so I don't know the laws around here. Other than the "In Ohio it is illegal to fish for whales on Sundays." But back to the point, I don't understand why a kid who's 17, can get in trouble for relations with a girl 2 years younger. I'm 21, so I guess in Ohio I'm not allowed to date any girls that are 19 or 23, or else I would get in trouble? Uhh oh stay away from the college sophmores? and I believe Hugh Hefner would be in jail for the rest of his life You have it nailed. Are you sure you are not pre-law? I'm not trying to be a jerk I just don't understand these buckeye state laws haha I guess asking for your opinion on Ohio Revised Code 1503.05 is probably out of the question then? I do know about Section 92.06...in Akron you cannot display colored chickens for sale Ohio Laws

Impact of UA Sports and Infocision on the City

I think they are moving in the right direction. The stadium and new residence halls will bring more students and fans to the area . Bringing in more normal people will hopefully change the types of businesses there. Out with tattoos, carwashes, plasma centers, and head shops. The last 7 years have seen remarkable change on Exchange. A new Stadium, 2-3 new residence halls, National City Bank, McDonalds, The new Taco Bell?, DQ, The Bike shop, Those new Condos, Expanded Parking deck are a great start. Give it 5 more years and Exchange will be looking fine. I really want a pedestrian bridge that goes across exchange. All the students that live at the Exchange Res Hall, Gallucci, and townhouses have to walk all the way up to McDonalds and cross there. Same with those coming from Folk Hall. It is a pain, and it's just a matter of time until someone gets injured by some of these crazy akron drivers. It also adds about 5-10 minutes of standing waiting for the light, which is normally short walk to the union or class. I mean there's a bridge between robs and simmons hall...and that street is no where near as busy as exchange is. Also this would get rid of the need for crossing guards on gameday. With about half of the tailgaters coming from that area, it would make the walk up the street to InfoCision much safer and enjoyable. The only problem I would see would be the bums that wonder the street, might use that bridge as a house. Maybe UA can make it only accessible via zipcard or something, at night or on non-gamedays...just an idea -

Upcoming opportunities to see Akron's MLS players
vmd9 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
You're joking right? You refuse to go to any Clippers, Blue Jackets, or Crew games because Ohio State is less than 10 miles from all of those stadiums? I sometimes feel like when I am that close to OSWho....that's correct. Doesn't the presence of high concentrations of Red and Silver make you ill as well? But regardless, I don't have an interest in making a 4-hour round trip to see any of those teams you mentioned, and don't really care much for Cowlumbus as a whole, beyond using their highways to get to other places south of here. I agree 100%, I also have desire to go to Columbus anytime soon. Same reason no one would want to go to Pittsburgh. Some cities are just full of idiots.... I take exception to that!!! well as long as your a zips fan I can let it slide... just keep your women away from athletes around there in pittsburgh -

Not that bad for the first year. They raised over $750 for charity. It will become an annual tradition, so I think it will be huge in the future. Also, I think I might be attending more Swimming meets next year. Wow. good looking girls on the swim team? not sure if they can compete with those volleyball, softball, and dance girls haha and btw facebook event was just created for the spring game like I suggested Zips Spring Game ...the marketing department HAS to be spying on us! if that's true I think I deserve a job
-
I actually have no idea, that's why I was asking. I only live in OH like half the year so idk the laws around here and I have never dated a girl younger than me so it's never been an issue haha

Wait let me get this straight. He was charged with rape, because at the age of 17, he had sex with a girl that was 15? Does this mean that all kids in high school can technically go to jail? I've heard of juniors dating freshman, or even seniors dating sophomores. It's not very common but it happens. I mean if he forced himself on her, that's one thing but that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I the only one who finds it strange his life should be ruined for something this dumb?
-
Don't they realize facebook is the most visited site by college students? I would say about 10% of akron students go on Gozips.com and probably over 90% are on facebook. I guess free advertising on facebook is a bad idea
-
I'm telling you right now if someone like Zeke, Humpty, or Nik transfered I would have hard feelings. If you chose to go here, try your best, don't give up because of one bad season. Anyone else honestly can leave, but I really hope at least those three stay!! and KD better find some replacements or transfers fast, or this team will fall apart with a key player leaving.
-
Not sure if this will be entertaining or not. But still hope a lot of people end up going. Also I think someone should start a facebook event like this for the Spring football game. I mean it will be the first at infocision stadium and could be exciting to get a lot of people to watch and support this team.

That's funny. I'll never forget it. 2005. just like we will never forget 2009 basketball

SI doesn't even think the MAC is a conference anymore
vmd9 replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I wouldn't get too mad about it. The MAC is a joke? is this news to anyone? our conference is as fake as WWF and everything is fixed. People don't take that crap seriously, why would they take the MAC seriously, when there are legit conferences out there and you can watch quality fair games, where the winner isn't predetermined. and BTW SI is only good for the swimsuit issue. Isn't that the reason anyone subscribes to that magazine? -
dude you need to type better, no offense but it's hard to read haha I think the reason people will be happy if we end up 5-7 is because it's a new coaching staff, pretty much rebuilding a poor team left over by Brookhart. With basketball on the other hand, we were coming off a MAC championship, with high expectations. People thought that basketball was on the rise, but really I feel like 08-09 was just a fluke. Much like the MAC championship in football in 2005 or whenever...after every season is over, you hope that the next one shows improvement. That's why us Cleveland/Akron fans always say "Well there's always next year" and we've been saying that since 1964...
-
I wish they would spend the same amount of $$ as they do for football. I'm glad that we've been spending BCS money on the football team, it shows we want to be bigger than the MAC and soon enough we will see results. I remember seeing that Akron spent over like $200 million in the past 5 years on football, and the next closest MAC school was like $10 million or something. It's hilarious and shows what an awful conference we are stuck with! Hey Tim please move us to C-USA SOON! I hate this MAC crap haha

I agree Jake, until they move the Polsky building and Quaker Inn conspicuously into the center of campus, they will not truly be a part of campus. But how will they build "a true on-campus basketball arena" if they moved quaker square and polsky onto campus? even though they already are. Nevermind I forgot they are building the fictional arena downtown... Jake needs to understand that college campuses expand. UA will build wherever they want, and acquire buildings wherever they want, and Jake getting all mad about that accomplishes nothing. Take a look at this photo.... this is what the campus of the University of Akron used to look like. They have expanded quite a bit since then, which makes it safe to say they will continue to do so. They have crossed roads, highways, and railroads. Students live downtown, on spicer, Fir Hill, Buchtel, everywhere. There are dorms all across campus and well at quaker square too. Folk Hall used to be a car dealership, Gallucci used to be Holiday Inn, Quaker used to be a factory. Do all the buildings look the same all across campus? no! but that makes it unique. Just be proud that UA is growing and getting better every day. It's a good time to be a part of this school and you'd be surprised that growing up in PA, I never heard of UA. But by my senior year in high school our class had over 10 students coming here. We are willing to pay double everyone else just to be a part of this school. No matter where the arena is built, or any other building for that matter. It will be OURS! and it will be a part of the University of Akron.

Of course it did last Fall. It must have. Don't you remember several people on this thread claiming the stadium would be 100% ready for the opening game last year? Was the stadium not 100% ready for the opening game? I didn't see any missing seat sections. If you chose not to notice the unfinished parts of the stadium last Fall there is probably nothing I can do to convince you. That is why I agreed in my last post that the shop was done last Fall. I didn't notice anything that wasn't finished?

Well it's a 4 sided sign atop the tower. Maybe on the East/West Sides they can put a UA logo and leave a Q on the North/South sides. That would make the UA logo visible from route 8.
