It's hard to imagine having so much talent, like Harvey, and just letting it go to waste.I wonder if we'll ever hear from him again?

The Run-and-Shoot Offense: (In Lay-Mans terms)THe splits for the linemen are larger than they normally are in the spread, to create passing lanes quicker for the QB. Though the Run-and-Shoot is run prodominantly out shotgun like the spread, the major difference in the Run-and-Shoot is that the WR's make their own reads on the defense and adjust their routes accordingly. The QB has to be able to recognize the read the WR is making and throw the ball to the adjusted route. The Spread: Is basically an offense that's run out of shotgun where a tight-end is utilized, where as the run-and-shoot tends to cut out the TE position. As well the blocking assignments are called out by the center and the QB has to make any adjustments to the play call himself (audibles) or in Akron's case they look to the sidelines (similar to many high school teams) for the checks. Also there are only rare occaisions where the reciever has the ability to make an adjustment on his route during the play. The spread is a far more simple offense than the run-and-shoot, which is why you'll never see the spread in the NFL and you'll never see the run-and-shoot used in high school.

Just an FYI:If you guys have ever run the shotgun as a QB... which judging by this thread is not the case. You are taught not to rely on throwing with the laces, as well it is not necessary. Reference Bret Favre, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning DO NOT find the laces when they recieve the snap. The only time you can throw using the laces, on a consistent basis, is when you recieve a snap from under center because the center snaps the laces to you as the QB. I could name a dozen other things that are wrong with those pictures but the fact that he's not using the laces in NOT one of them.

CK -Unfortunately, I think Hakes may have been a bust even if he were still at Akron. He was replaced as the starter at Orange Coast College several weeks ago. Numerous interceptions and a totally anemic offense. I like Sean a lot, like you like Moorehead. But not looking good as a college QB.I dunno man, look at his team and the other QB's stats. I'll reserve my judgement til he's out of JUCO.

Matt Rogers would not have done any better this year than CJ11. Remeber that this kid is a first year player. They all get better with experience. It's not like he's out there with Great receivers and a innovative offense. A QB can not win games by himself. Be patient. CJ11 is a good QB and will improve with time and maturity. If you think Matt Rogers is the answer, what his high school film and compare it. I don't think so.What we need is better receivers and a better offensive scheme!

OH and BTW how bout Ivelic living up to his billing this past game...and Bryan Williams has been a BEAST!!!Let's build on this tiny little bit of succes and move in that direction cause I didn't like where things were headed before.GO ZIPS!!!
-
"I'm a believer, but it was just one game! Not even a whole game btw, they looked bad until about 8 minutes in."That's when we took CJ7 out and put CJ11 in the game. He came in and things got going and the offense seemed to get in a groove. It's funny how everyone was bashing CJ11 and wanted CJ7 and nobody's noting how they ate their words. CJ7 didnt lose the job because of attitude or off-the-field problems... He's just not a good quarterback, plain and simple.
-
No offense but I don't think I'm the only one who's seen enough of CJ7 at QB... HE'S NOT A QUARTERBACK!!! Stick him at reciever or defensive back and leave him there. You can't play Div.1 QB with a weak arm and bad decision making. And Quit the Troy Smith comparisons Troy Smith was an Elite 11 QB coming out of h.s. and had offers to play QB alot of other places. Where as we were the only Div.1 college dumb enough to give CJ7 a shot at playing QB. Jacquemain is the starter for a reason... HE'S A QB (maybe not a good one, but still a QB)!!!
-
Here's a quote about Hakes' last game I'll hold off on my judgement of Hakes... 7 sacks in the second half alone haha, WOW!!!
-
Yea I wish he would have stuck it out here too. Now that I think about it what many of us have been saying about the team (terrible offensive strategy, I'm not sold on new offense, missing recievers) is exactly what Hakes was saying as he was leaving. And some of us thought he was taking a shot a the program, maybe he was just telling the truth... GOD I HOPE NOT!!!
-
I completely agree... but thats not to say im happy or it'll make me feel better to do so. I don't like what I see out there from our offense, this "new offense" makes us look like a h.s. team. How many collegiate teams do you see turning to the sideline to get the call? If it was somewhat effective I prolly wouldn't complain, but it's terrible!!!
-
No offense but strictly on production Jacquemain produced 2 first downs and Jackson produced one... anyone that says Jackson should be starting is smoking crack. Especially after that shitty screen pass that ended in a turnover and he isn't even mobile like everyone is saying he didn't run for shit!
-
Such bullshit Brookhart never opened the offense for either QB.
-
That s one of the worst screen passes I have ever seen thrown!!! WTF!!! Where is Jacquemain...
-
CJ in again???
-
CJ is in again... another 3 and out!!! WHERE IS JACQUEMAIN!!!
-
Jackson has had 4 posessions all of them being 3 and outs... so id say lets stick with Jacquemain at least he's shown he can move the offense somewhat.
-
CJ looks like shit

For those of you who don't know...The announcing crew for the Big Ten network was working only their second game together during the Michigan vs. Appalachian State game. The first game they announced together was the Boise State vs. Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl last season. Their third game they will be announcing will be the Akron vs. Ohio State game in Columbus this weekend!!!The announcers made a comment about it during the last minute of the game. Not saying that it's goin to make a difference but it would be very ironic if Akron won and there was that little bit of backstory as well, that would be pretty erie if you ask me.
-
Jacquemain is the man... right call by JD. CJ didn't look bad either, think we're solid at QB!!!
-
Dude no offense but I just don't get your arguement. Why would he transfer before the first day of camp if he was getting equal reps??? I just feel like we don't have all the info.I really thought he was gonna be our starter this year especially after I watched him this Spring. He looked like the most talented QB we had, especially in the Spring Game. I think there had to be something else going on that we don;t know about that caused him to leave... maybe I'm the only one but I'm sort of confused. A buddy of mine on the team thought he was gonna start which is another reason I'm so perplexed.

Buckzip- Troy Smith was an Elite 11 QB coming out of h.s. so to say he was a bad passer is an understatement. He also had offers to play QB at many other schools. So to compare a kid who had one Div. 1 offer to play QB to an Elite 11 QB turned Heisman trophy winner is a pretty far stretch. CJ has never once showed me that he can play QB at this level, based on the two Spring Games (this years and last years) I saw and his limited playing time last year. He didn't score in either of those Spring Games and IMO he just looks like a real good athlete trying to play QB. I would really like to see what he can do in the slot, maybe some trick plays, if I were going to compare him to any player I would say an Antwan Randle El and I would like to see him used in the same way. It's not like if Jaquemain goes down he can't move back to QB this season, Paul Thompson of Oklahoma and Syvell Newton of South Carolina both did it... why not Carlton Jackson of Akron???We need to realize (although I hate the term) we are a "Mid-Major" school and we don't have the depth of talent that BCS schools have and we need to find a way to get as many talented players on the field as possible. If Michigan State felt he had enough talent to play WR for them why can't he do it for us too?
-
Wow... that's crazy!!! I'll have to ask my buddy if that's true, cause I don't even think JD even has the power to do that. If he threatened a 19yr old Freshmen who was pushing for the starting job to perform or he would take his scholly, JD might need to re-evaluate his coaching methods.Either way we're gonna be alright at QB, but I would have liked to see Hakes stay. Best of luck to him where ever he goes unless it's in the MAC hahaha.

Never senn a two sided stadium look so AWESOME!!! It looks like the stands are right ontop of the field... its gonna make for some rowdy games!!!
