InTheZone,I pretty sure you are mis-informed, none of the QB's are wearing red jersey's this Spring. Hence Carlton Jackson getting hit and unable to return to finish his drive, as mentioned in the other article. I have some friends on the team and they said that Hakes is running like Tebow.

Buckzip-Nate Robinson is actually better than any of the DT's that OSU has, so I don't see why you're so nervous about it. He was the #1 DT in the country coming out of high school and from what it sounds like he's FINALLY living up to his potential this spring. p.s. OSU won't put up more than 24 points and you can count on that

Regardless of anything anybody has said... the fact of the matter is that any thing can happen on any given Saturday. The truth is Miami of Ohio took the wire and the Bucks needed a 50 yard FG from Nugent to win the game. Anything can happen on any given Saturday.IMO I think this team is going to be significantly better than last years team. I also truly believe that we are going to have a legitimate shot to win the game. Just look at how inept their offense was before Troy Smith, just about every game came down to the wire, which will at least give us a shot to pull off the upset.

Sounds like we've got a Tebow and Leak situation at QB."In 11-on-11 drills, Jackson showed repeatedly he has the athleticism to get large chunks of yards each time he runs with the ball.""Hakes, too, showed the ability to plow over a defender. He absolutely trucked linebacker Michael Alphonse on one play. Hakes also showed a little more consistency throwing the ball."The only difference here is that they are alot closer in age (RS-SO and RS-FR)... which also causes a major dilemma, because I think whomever loses the job will likely transfer or move positions (hopefully the ladder of the two). Either way we should be better off than we were last year at QB.BCS in 2008!!!

Wow that's the meanest April fools joke ever... I was about to cry I was so happy then I figured it out.
-
I don't care if it's in the Texas Catholic League or whatever... it's still 2 state titles in 2 years. That's got to reflect upon the quarterback's leadership.
-
I just googled his name and rivals.com...Here's the LinkJust watch that first video and tell me he's doesn't have a cannon. It also shows he's got great mobility.I dunno Mike Rasor's Article on him when he first got here had me pumped up about him and after seeing those highlights a couple times I couldn't wait to see him running the offense, but hey thats just me.
-
I'm goinna to put it this way Hakes has 2 state titles in 2 years of starting (for a school who had never won a title before). I'd say thats excellent leadership, and he's just as mobile as Jaquemain if not better, didn't anyone watch this kids highlight film like I did?

IMO, the schedule isn't really that bad, maybe I'm an optimist (not to mention I've got some friends I want to see at IU haha). I think playing in an nice NFL stadium is AWESOME. I don't know about you guys but I'm getting hammered for that game. Call me 'crazy' but I think this team is going to much improved with the young talent stepping in. I am expecting the season to play out like this:W September 1st -- Army (Browns Stadium)L September 8th -- @ Ohio StateW September 15th -- @ IndianaW September 22nd -- Can't StateW September 29th -- @ ConnecticutL October 6th -- @ Western MichiganW October 13th -- TempleW October 27th -- @ BuffaloW *November 2nd -- @ Bowling Green ESPNUW #November 7th -- Ohio ESPN 2W #November 14th -- @ Miami ESPN 2L *November 23rd -- Central Michigan ESPNU9-3 and another MAC Championship makes it 10-3 and back to Detroit for the Motorcity BowlLike I said "call me CRAZY" but I really like what this team has alot better than what they had last year

JD still rocking and rolling with recruiting. The Haters can keep hating but JD will keep recruiting... that's my boy JD!!!I also can't wait to see the team this spring... BALLIN'!!!
-
Yea he's gonna stick with WV that's for sure.

RACER this team IS more TALENTED than last year. There have been WAY more poorly thrown balls from Getsy then passes dropped by the receivers, and to answer your question there were not many easy catches dropped. You have to expect some drops every game, and it's the QB's job to keep putting the ball on the mark.IMO I think we will be even BETTER next year the younger players on this team are supposed to be more talented than the players that we have leaving, and that includes Getsy. They'll have another year under their belt and I'm excited to see what they'll do. Just look at the impact David Harvey has had on the offense and he's only a Freshmen. I think a Redshirt-Sophomore/Freshmen could've lead this team to a 5-7 or 6-6 season (especially because they're all more mobile which helps with the constant pressure). Our running game should be imroved with the return of Alex Allen adding to Kennedy and Walker, as well expect to see Aaris Reed getting PT. Everyone on defense is returning except Gonzalez and Reid both of whom never lived up to their hype this season. Oh and we'll have one of the best kickers in the country coming out of high school in 2006 healthy and playing next season, which people might not realize but is HUGE. This team will be BETTER next year than this year and you can count on that.
-
Oh I know Getsy wasn't the only one with a bad game, but he's the leader and by choosing to play QB he is supposed to shoulder the responsibility for the performance of HIS offense.

If you would have told me this earlier....
AZipsCrazy replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
To be honest I am also in disbelief... I really thought this team was better than this. This season has been up and down (definitely with more downs). IMO this team needs to adjust it's strategy offensively, when I watch the games it seems like the only time our offense gets rolling is when we are running the two-minute drill. Which tells me one thing they are not playing to their strengths, they need to take notes from the way cryAMI ran their offense when the had Roethlisberger (Establish the pass to open up the run). Luke is not a good enough QB to be on point when he's not throwing every down, so they needed to come out gunning and spread the defense out... then break the defense with the run. Does anyone else agree that the only time this offense seems like it moves is when we are in the two-minute drill???Whatever either way this season is over and I am PISSED!!! -
Carlton Jackson, Chris Jacquemain, AND Sean Hakes. Are you going to try to defend Getsy, I am just curious because there really was no excuse for the way he played yesterday, except for the fact that he just isn't that good.
-
Getsy is the absolute worst QB I have watched in a while, I drove my happy ass down to Athens and have just now got back to Akron (had to hit the bars a little after a whooping like that). How many times are we going to watch Getsy do this little flip thing that he calls a pass, where he under hands a pass and throws it away (which also resulted in a pick later in the game)??? Who taught him this??? I have never in my life expected to see such poor play out of a kid as hyped as he was coming into the season. He will never touch an NFL field and IMO shouldn't be touching the field for us any longer, there is no reason we should have a 23 year old hack at QB when we have so much talent on the bench. See you at the Rubber Bowl for the last ball game... I'll be praying I don't have to watch any 10 yard shovle passes this week.
-
Very true and I'll be rooting against OU for the next two weeks. Good Luck witht the game tonight, but I think you're definitely gonna be silenced by the Zips!!!
-
HUGE game for the Zips. It will be a great atmosphrere and a bit of a battle in the first half, but I think Kennedy will be effective running the ball and Harvey and Arthur are going to break the game open in the second half. Zips win by 10

That's what I'm saying... there is going to be a shortage of bowl elgible teams this year because of the large disparity of undefeated and one-loss team to the rest of every conference. BUT I believe we have got to be 7-5, but unlike Fear I think we can do it. Ohio is garbage... the have good defense but they can't pass the ball to open up the QB scramble enough and that's where every team has beaten us balanced play and a QB that scrambles. On another note... ITS GAMEDAY BOI and I'm ready for the game today I know we aren't having the season we expected but whatever man, GO ZIPS BABY!!!
-
Dude I feel bad that you did all that typing and my response is going to be this simple... 7-5 makes you bowl eligible.
-
I still avocate playing Luke too... no offense but Luke is STILL the starter because he's the BETTER QB. We need as many wins as we can get, so we at least have "a chance" at a bowl game. I agree that CJ needs to get at least a series per half if not more. But I also think we have to give ourselves the best opportunity to win and that is Luke regardless. You have to realize that a bowl game, whatever bowl it is, helps recruiting and with $$$. I know we need to prepare for the future, but lets not do that by sacraficing the present season.
-
I know I thought that exact thing when I saw Dantonio on the radar for MSU.That scares me a ton because the NCAA is in the process of passing a rule where you can transfer after your freshmen year and you don't have to sit out at all. If that goes through you can expect to see Harvey gone and any other "star" players that could easily start there. GOD THIS IS A SCARY THOUGHT!!!at least there are other candidates that are higher on their list right now... i hope.
-
Yea I think that's probably the worst way to break a kid in... cause if you send him in there he plays his series and sees some things, then you yank him by the time he gets back out there the defense will have made adjustments and he'll have to get comfortable all over again. Good Call
-
I'm pumped that they're finally doing the logical thing in playing CJ, but I don't think it will effect the pocket for Luke. CJ and Luke ran their 40's like 1 tenth apart (Getsy 4.9, CJ 4.8) so I'm not too sure it will make much difference, it's all gonna be in the way he handles the pressure from the D-Line. i.e. does he try to do the trademark "Fluke" Getsy spin move, or does he step up in the pocket, take a shot in the mouth and deliver the ball. To be a good QB you've got to have moxie, CJ didn't show it last time (given it was only one play), but he'll get another opportunity to show us what he's got this Saturday.
-
I agree... 1 series isn't going to do that much, but it's better than nothing.
