  1. I agree... up until this loss I still had aspirations of the Zips winning the East, albeit a longshot. Now it is time to prepare for next season. I think both CJ's should see significant time, might as well give'em both a shot in the game and see how they do right? This is very dissappointing to have to be preparing for next season already. This team is lost and obviously needs some strong leaders to emerge... if not I see us having the same outcome next year "lot's of talent and no results".
  2. That's a shame he was really helping out our D up front. He's definitely become one of the more valuable players on the defense and his presence was definitely missed Saturday.
  3. Whoa now... lets not get ahead of ourselves, JD is NOT LEAVING after this year. To be honest with the poor discipline this team has shown, he still has alot to prove before he's offered a better job than he's got. Sure he beat N.C. State but he hasn't really beaten anyone else. I get what you're saying about the QB's somebody needs to be getting playing time, but the reality of the situation is JD (for whatever reason) has decided not to give anyone playing time. I don't know why, but he's got to have a reason.
  4. QB: C I think Getsy needs to be more consistent. Especially when you consider he is a RS(SR.) and has been playing college football for 5 years now. I realize that the line hasn't given him the protection that he has needed, but regardless the passes he has been making at times are just not acceptable. Due to his being clutch in the N.C. State game I gave him a C. Without that game and the North Texas game he's got a D... not good.WR: BI know they have had a few drops but you have to keep in mind that they are Freshmen, with the exception of Long and Arthur. Arthur is a converted QB and he is yet to show the dominating play that he displayed in the MCB last year. David Harvey is going to be the best reciever to ever step foot on a field at Akron by the time he's done and he'll be a first round pick if he stays for four years. Jermaine Lindsey has performed well, but Getsy seems to have trouble getting him the ball enough, because he seems to lock in on Harvey whenever he's struggling. Overall I am pleased with the recievers play considering the situation.RB: C-Dennis Kennedy was impressive before he hurt his shoulder, but since his injury he seems to bounce the ball outside too frequently. As well the back-ups have yet to step up. I'm not sure if Aaris Reed burned his RS but if he did he definitely needs more touches. Kennedy needs to get his confidence back and start running in the middle of the field.OL: D+It makes me sick to see Getsy taking shots from opposing players that go through our line untouched. The only reason they havent recieved an F is because they protected Getsy enough against N.C. State to win the ball game. They need to be consistent because they show that they can block well on certain plays giving Getsy all-day to throw but on the next play they'll mis an assignment.DL: CThey haven't really gotten much pressure on the QB and they have yet to dominate the line of scrimmage since the N.C. State game. Nate Robinson has played well but he needs to work harder in the off-season next year, because I feel like he doesn't play hard every play and he gets dominated when he doesn't. Kiki and Jermaine have been average at best and they had recieved alot of hype from us going into this season and they just haven't ived up to it. There has yet to be a game where I feel bad for the opposing teams QB because he's getting beat up all game. Cecchetti hasn't played bad either but once again hasn't dominated or been consistently beating his man. They need to turn up the heat on the QB if the defense is going to be effective.LB: CAs well they haven't been consistently good. They have blown some coverages and haven't pressured the QB as much as I expected. As well there have been too many arm tackles and hits where they aren't wrapping up. They need to get back to the fundamentals of tackling and that will solidify the middle for us.DB: B-Now you may be thinking "B- are you crazy", yes "B-" and the reason is that there have been breakdowns in coverage, but when the recieverss have all day to run their routes then run scramble drill it's tough to be a solid defensive backfield. Andre Jones has played very well and will be a great DB in years to come. Chevin Pace being out really doesn't matter much because he doesn't tackle well at all and that's kind of an important part of playing safety. Tate was burned pretty bad against Can't and really hasn't shown much. I still give our DB's the benefit of the doubt and if our DL and LB's can put more pressure on the QB they'll make some plays. ST: COur kicking game has been piss poor and Igor needs to come back or our future won't be looking too bright. Punting has not been terrible, I can't tell you how many times I thought Stec was going to get blocked and he somehow gets it off. But on the bright side of ST's is our kick return game... thanks Harvey. With all that said I don't feel it's a lack of talent or ability with our team but rather a lack of consistently good play. I also believe that if this team gets a chip on their shoulder and realizes that everybody now thinks last year a fluke and they got lucky. Go out there and play the way the can, and they'll win out, BUT only if they do it CONSISTENTLY!!!
  5. Thanks Capt. for the link. I really like what they said about him avoiding the rush and keeping his eyes downfield, that shows alot of maturity to not just tuck and run when he's under pressure. This kid sounds like a great pick-up, and will definitely give us the added depth we need at QB because with Luke gone we only have 3 QB's on scholarship, so landing Rodger's was very important.
  6. I don 't think you pull Getsy for a QB with no experience and hasn't even challenged for the spot in the off-season. I don't think either CJ will be anything more than a backup... I mean Hakes to Harvey has too good of a ring to it, haha. I dunno maybe I'm the only one, but I can't help but have hope that Hakes can play like he did on that highlight film once he adjusts to playing in college. If he can he will live up to the headline "Hakes' is next Frye"... thanks for that one MRasor, I'm holding you to that one hahaha. Seriously though, I also find it a little ironic that if CJ were going to start next year they would give him some playing time. BUT they aren't and it might be a sign that they aren't happy with either CJ's progression and they're just going to play Luke because nobody else is close to him right now.
  7. I'll back that story up. Friend on the team said the same thing. What a douche bag... who sucker punches a kid then expects no retaliation, don't take that shit to the physical level if you don't want someone to get physical with you.As well the kid is alot bigger than Igor from what I heard. He probably thought Igor wouldn't have the balls to fight him, haha, sorely mistaken I guess (no pun intended). I've got Igor's back, hell if he kicks like I hear he can when he's healthy and back on the team I just might rock his jersey next year just for being such a badass. #45 the Zips resident "Bosnian Badass"
  8. Don't you think if Carlton Jackson was even close to Luke they would be getting him some playing time. No offense he's not anywhere near Luke and it's obvious they're just going to stick with Getsy regardless. Not going to say it's the right decision but it is what I think theyre doing.
  9. Now 2-3, 0-2@ Cincinnati - WMiami - W@ Toledo - LBowling Green - WBuffalo - W@ Ohio - WWestern Michigan - LFinal Record - 7-5, 4-4Sorry I wish I could say we weren't this inconsistent, but we are.
  10. OUTCOACHED!?!?!?! Watch the game and analyze what happened and you realize that it was ALL about execution. Our Defense has to play harder and make more plays, especially in the secondary. They laid back and played lazy all day. Poor tackling and coverage with the occaisional bone-head play equals the piss poor pass defense we had today.Luke needs to keep both hands on the damn ball, and quit patting it in the pocket, that is what causes fumbles when you get sacked. To fumble twice against your archrival is pathetic. Luke has proven one thing, he is consistently inconsistent. He is definitely not going to be drafted like many of us predicted. I expected him to come out and play the way he did in the MAC Championship game, but he continues to be below average. The running game was shut-down IMO because we couldn't pass. We are a Mid-Major team w/o the best line in the world and to take the pressure off the line you have to pass to open up the run, which is the opposite of the big schools strategy. It's worked for all the good mid-majors (i.e. Utah, Boise State, etc.). I'm not really worried about the running game.I felt like the team came out expecting to win. The players need to check themselves... They got lucky even getting to the MAC championship game last year, and got beat pretty handily until the 4th quarter in the MCB. They ARE NOT THAT GOOD. They need to realize they have great "ability" but with out hard work that "ability" is just going to waste. They shouldn't have gotten cocky about winning the MAC last year, they need to realize that they're close to being good. They have A super talented game breaker David Harvey and that's about it.
  11. I think we'll beat hem by more than a TD... so I don't think it will come to this. BUT I also heard Igor Iveljic is practicing and if that's true I'm not too worried about our kicking game. Otherwise Domonkos better have been working his ass off this week to get ready and I'm sure he is.
  12. Yea they're message board lame... not even cool enough to talk smack to them in.
  13. I'll be the first to admit that I was laughing when I heard Can't State was being picked by many people to win the MAC East. But after the start they are off too, unless we do something about it this Saturday, they have a good shot. BUT that's a big "if" because we do have the #1 DEFENSE in the MAC. Our offense needs to produce like they did in the first quarter against N. Texas. P.S. Possibly good news I heard today that even though Igor's back is still recovering he is practicing this week... not sure if he'll play just what I heard. Can anyone else confirm this?
  14. Out of all the guys on ESPN I like Herby the most, BUT he's wrong on this one.
  15. I just read it today... This game is going to be huge this weekend. We definitely need to pack Can't's stadium with Zips fans. Really is a swing game for both teams.ArticleNice job Terry Pluto... now keep the stories coming all week!!!
  16. Every student better show up... we've got a good team and defending champ. It's time to show some effort as fans!!!
  17. Let's pack the Bowl out this weekend!!! Everyone better be talking to all their friends, cause I know I am. Make it an event cause this team deserves the support... Winning a MAC championship, beating an ACC team this year already!!! Grab your friends and tell them to grab theirs it's time to show how proud we are of this team. Could you have ever dreamed we'd be in this situation 4 years ago?
  18. Ohio University in the GMAC??? HAHHAHA... that's laughable. Wait til our Zips go down to Athens and blow them out. CFN's staff must have been smoking when they made that pick.
  19. If he's not back I wonder what they're going to do? It's really coming back to haunt us that Alex Allen is hurt. Does anyone think they'll burn Aaris Reed's redshirt? Someone needs to step-up if he's out again this week!!!
  20. Luke needs to step up and play better, period. He has played poorly every game except for the end or the NC State game which we should have won handily. Unless he can turn it on here at some point soon he can kiss his chances of being drafted away.I'm sorry to call him out like that but all of this centers around the QB, and he needs to be better.
  21. I think alot of you guys are way ahead of yourselves if you feel that JD will be gone in the next two seasons. Unless he is offered a premiere job (e.q. Upper level BCS school) I just don't think he'll leave. Also NC State is not good enough of a team this year to warrant a media fenzy like Urban Meyer had at Utah so we'll be fine. Had we beat Penn State as well that would be another story.
  22. Just checked out his profile on Rivals.com he looks pretty solid on filmRivals Profile
  23. Great to see us pick up a QB so early in the process. This really boads well for J.D.'s recruiting. Now we need to pick up one more this year. Next year we'll have 4 QB's counting Rodgers... we either need to pick up a walk-on or another scholly kid this season. I'd prefer a scholly kid because you never know what could happen after the battle for starting QB shakes out (position changes or transfers). It's always good to have good depth at QB because it's such an important position.Good Pick Up!!!
