For those of you that didn't know Sirius/XM changed the channel lineup on May 4th. This will effect where you listen to college football on your satellite radio this fall. Channel Lineup If for some reason your sirius radio did not update channels, see #3 here. You may have to refresh manually. I'll bump this back up at the end of August when the schedule comes out. MLB Bonus (I just figured this out last week) I'll share in case some of you don't know. All SiriusXM subscribers will be able to listen to MLB broadcasts through the SiriusXM internet radio. "He broke his wrists", "The bat went past the front of the plate." Many people believe those two statements are written in the rules or are written as official interpretations of a strike. They are not. A strike by definition is "a pitch that is struck at by the batter and is missed." It is purely a judgment made by the umpire as to whether the batter "struck at" the pitch. Breaking the wrists or the bat moving beyond the front of the plate or the batter's body, are factors that the umpire may use to make the judgment. Factors is all they are; not definitions. It is not automatically a strike when a batter holds the bat over the plate preparing to bunt and does not pull it back when the pitch goes by. The same judgment applies. Did the batter "strike at" the pitch? It is not automatically a strike when a batter is ducking an inside pitch and he spins around and the bat crosses the plate. The umpire must judge if he was avoiding the pitch or striking at it. Source: Rule 2.00 Strike You can download official baseball rules here. See page 27.

Ken+ Getting National Exposure By Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer Omaha, Neb. -- It's fair to say that what Can't State has reaped, in terms of branding and recognition from its NCAA College World Series appearance -- not to mention advertising value -- has been a plus for the university. There's no doubt Can't baseball has received a lot of exposure. Certainly more than a college volleyball, soccer or hockey championship run made by other Mid-American Conference schools in recent years. First time I watched a college baseball game (on tv) last night. Watched the 5th through the 9th. Good game. I'm shocked Ken+ got out of the 9th. I would have pulled that pitcher. He was awful. If you ask TB a direct question, he will give you an honest answer to that question. TB's evaluation of LR8 was the same as Dr Z's. For those of you that were looking for the staff to use a "dual threat" QB, you can forget it. Coach told us that he doesn't like his QB running the ball because the QB needs get the next play from the sideline, and line the team up for the next play. If the QB is at the bottom of the pile, he is limiting his time to do this effectively. It's about time management. Coach doesn't forbid him to run, just prefers that he does not.

2012 Miami RB hoping to land at Akron
Dr Z replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Why? This guy was and they are the same size....and this guy too. -
I happen to have Fox 8 on in the garage while I was loading up the beer fridge for Father's Day Sunday morning. Fox 8 did a recorded piece at Flannery's Pub in downtown Cleveland. Apparently they had a Ken+ themed party for the game. They interviewed about 4 or 5 fans. They must have stayed for the whole game, because they showed the fans from their pregame "high" to the end of the game "low." If I had to guess, it looked as though 15 people were in their urine colored yellow shirts at the Pub.

But yet you have posted multiple times on the subject in an off topic forum, kind of odd. By typing "everybody" here is what I mean. More than a dozen people in my office have mentioned something to me. There are multiple articles in local papers for weeks on the subject (check today's PD & BJ). Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard has posted the video of the hit that one the game. I have received multiple emails from clients that are not Ken+ fans asking me what I think of Ken+s run. I was at a bar in Stow last Sunday night where the majority of the patrons were watching and interested in the game. The TV is usually tuned to the MLB Sunday night game or an NBA playoff game which a handful of people watch. Every local news is running highlights about the team. Cribbs is chartering a bus to Omaha. On Ken+s rivals page fans are discussing it. I'm no Ken+ fan, I hate Ken+, but to ignore the "buzz" they are getting over this run would be naive IMO. I could provide you with many more links (support for my point) but the whole changing the word ken+ to can't thing prohibits me. Sorry. PS I am going to guess my feeling will be that I say I am rooting for ken+, but when the game is almost over, if they lose, I will still feel pretty good. It will be like when the Browns play the Ravens. Being a Steeler fan, I want the Browns to win, but when it comes down to the end of the game and the they end up losing, well I still feel pretty good.

No, we (U of A) are. My point was, a run to the CWS like they are having would help us if we did something similar. Everybody around the area is talking about it, and tuning in to watch the games.
-
Would that not be your target market if you were trying to get an extra 10,000 students by 2020?
-
What college do you usually hear the announcers say? It's MLB, stars don't go to college (with minor exceptions), it's not NFL.
-
Ken+ sure is getting a LOT of advertising out of this run. What do you think that dollar amount on that is? Do you think Dr P would like everybody talking about Akron, tuning in to watch the games on tv, and seeing Akron on the news every night? That might help his 10,000 more students by 2020 cause.
-
The same could be said for the other seven teams in the CWS.

Feel free to explain your answer.

Mike Tyson sang this song about LeBron James on Jimmy Kimmel's show last night.

Since this seems like one of those "practice" reports...is it possible that they lowered the rims at practice 1 inch, so that everybody seems like they grew?

Former Massillon standout seen at field house

Gladney commits to Nebraska -
Looking forward to this series. Can LBJ continue to play like he has the last two games? He sure looked focused to me. I'm not sure the Thunder will (lack of) defend the paint the way the Celtics did.

Stay tuned, lots of ZN members attended. I'm sure they will post later today. "Popular" would be one word to describe it. I'll start and hope others will add. The Quarry is a beautiful golf course, if your a fan of golf and live within an hour, you should try and get to play it soon. Bring your "A" game. Very competitive outing. I believe there were three groups tied with a 56 that was decided by a scorecard playoff. Strategically placed kegs of Yuengling might have been on the course, but I might be wrong. If your not a golfer, but like beer and food, the outside bar there is very nice and overlooks the 18th green. All coaches VERY accessible and wiling to converse with you. Got to speak with coach Amato about the past (Zips beat NC State), and the future (recruiting). He is the same person as his old NC State press conferences reveal, likeable and animated. I enjoyed his conversation. ZN members got an impromptu session with coach Bowden after dinner for about 20 minutes. Coach Bowden is very honest and open. Some of the stuff, I won't post in an open forum out of respect for others. But he would give you the same answers if you asked him. He explained how he called in his offensive plays and how he come up with those plays. He spoke positively about his offensive line. He seemed very excited about some incoming offensive skill players. As indicated in his radio interview last week, he spoke of sitting down with JPT and discussing how he recruited Ohio when he was at YSwho. He reiterated what a great advantage it is for the program to have somebody like JPT on campus. He added that we have 80 scholarship players right now. I came away from the discussion thinking coach Bowden has a very quick and sharp mind. Akron football is in good hands right now. He is asking for your help by spreading the word and getting friends and family out to the games. Terry also said he wants to have twice as many people by having a morning session and an afternoon session next year. He feels the golf outing is very important so he can speak to the long time Zips fans and share his excitement about the program with them. Total opposite of...(ahhh forget it). I was hoping that Bobby Bowden would be in attendance, but no such luck. For once, I actually won some door prizes!

But ESPN can't get what team he plays for correct?!?! Ah little details.

Take it to the soccer forum. If you want to talk about the Zips football schedule do it here. Oct 27th @ Western will be at 3:30 pm (Time TBD) Tennesee Schedule Link (Time TBD) FIU Schedule Link

I'll take Poland and Russia today. Poland 2-0, Russia 1-0. PS I can't believe you can actually bet on a TIE for these games. Nothing worse than betting on a game, watching it for hours, and it ends in a tie.

If you would like to add these times to your electronic calendar the ics file can be found here. PS Not a big fan of the one noon home start time. Leaves less time for tailgating. I like the 2 and 3:30 times.

Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden has added his name to the list of ex-coaches in favor of a BCS selection committee to determine the participants in a four-team playoff. In fact, Bowden believes that former coaches would be the best to serve on that committee. "This Legends group is about as real a group as you can have," Bowden told ESPN.com's Joe Schad. "I voted for years as an active coach. But what you're really doing then is putting yourself and your conference in position. I used to have an idea of what was going on around me. But now I really have an idea of what's going on around the country. When we're retired, we all have a better view." The "Legends group" is the Legends Poll, made up of legendary ex-coaches who watch game footage from across the country and participate in regular discussions and voting. Bowden also told ESPN.com that he would be willing to serve on the committee. "I think ex-coaches have a lot of wisdom," Bowden said. "I watch the games. And I watch the game films on my iPad."
