  1. Source: Colin Dunlap of 93.7 FM The Fan in Pittsburgh is reporting that current Akron head coach Keith Dambrot has turned down an offer to come coach at Duquesne. Dambrot, who coached LeBron James at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School has seen a tremendous amount of success at Akron, leading the Zips to two NCAA appearances and six consecutive appearances in the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship.According to Dunlap, Dambrot was offered a seven-year deal that would include a salary in excess of 600k per year and incentives that could have brought that number up to $775k. The other frontrunner for the job, Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua has yet to be contacted due to the Wildcats' playing in the FInal Four.
  2. Are you just re-posting someones tweet, or was this "talk" going on in your bathroom?....how about a link, for the umpteenth time.
  3. There was a Pitt track star that was in Steeler's camp for about 4 straight years in the 80's, I can't remember his name. He never made it out of camp, but they wrote the same article in PG year after year. Speed kills, and as long as I will live I will remember coach Bowden saying "we are going to get speed on the corners." I realize this is an apples an oranges comparison, but others do it, so I'm going to also. Wallace is the "speedster" for the Steelers. A lot of times last year, just his presence on the field opened things up for Antonio Brown. So what I'm saying is, maybe just Ferguson's routes could cause a lot of "attention", and open things up underneath for other receivers. Worth a try IMO. How fun is this excitement/buzz before the first kickoff this year?
  4. Good information George, thanks. I love that answer from coach Bowden on "dual-threat" QB's. PS How to link to a website
  5. I agree...for now. In four years give me Ohio State again. Coach Bowden will be rollin' and Myers will be gone. Pretty decent schedule all things considered.
  6. ESPN.com's Headline Story The barrel-bodied coach with the syrupy drawl wasn't mincing words with Janoris Jenkins last spring. Terry Bowden had already spent the previous two years at North Alabama, a Division II school located in Florence, so he understood some players might not embrace a small program with limited resources. As Bowden scanned Jenkins' body language that day in his office, the coach also sensed Jenkins trying to find his own comfort level. The kid had no choice. This was his last hope of resurrecting the reputation he had nearly firebombed while at the University of Florida.Because Bowden had made his name while coaching Auburn from 1993 to '98, he knew Jenkins would have an immediate impact at a lower level. The bigger issue was whether Jenkins could deal with his new surroundings after being dismissed from Florida following three seasons as a star cornerback."I told him that we'd be playing in front of 500 people some days," Bowden said. "We'd be taking buses to games and not jets. And I also didn't want to see him wearing any orange and blue. He wasn't a Gator anymore. He was a North Alabama Lion."
  7. Isn't that where he is from?
  8. I agree. I worry more about our coaching.
  9. Illinois Gets Lucky With Groce In four years, he took a fairly average mid-major program and turned it into a March pest. At 40, Groce is the perfect coach to take over the University of Illinois. He's young, hungry and aggressive. He recruits point guards and gives them the keys to his offense. His teams play fast, shooting 3s and causing turnovers. No, Shaka Smart didn't want the job. But this isn't a dumb hire for the Illinois.
  10. When you make progress, it shows up in wins. The rest is just rationalizing.
  11. I think the fact that you did not see last year, gives you a "fresher" perspective right now. I enjoy the "truth", rather than poetically polishing up turds. Some in this forum like to say "I'm a glass half full guy", BS, write what you see, since you have the advantage of seeing practice, and that's what I want to read about. Keep up the good work. PS I think the lack of pressure from our front seven, put the DB's in a bad way last year. I hope the front seven vastly helps out the secondary this season.
  12. I did, and I agree, I didn't see any indication of a "dual threat" QB in the highlights. Question for coach Bowden: When would you like to decide on your starting QB?
  13. If if's and buts were candy and nuts....... Sports history is made of winners and losers. Most loser stories start with "if"...in this case "had." I hope some day our opponents fans type "if Akron hadn't..." That's when I'll laugh, until then it's just another sad ending.
  14. Looks as though the Giants may not sign Chase. Hope he ends up in Latrobe come August.
  15. I like the "Bowden Ball" logo. Immediately print up 10,000 static stickers for cars with schedule on the peel, and give them away at local places of business. (From the video) Looks like some shoddy play at the QB position...
  16. Far walk from campus.
  17. I'm guessing the answer to most of your inquiries is "the lack of video." You have to go with what you have. Maybe the title of the thread should have been "Top 10 Plays of the Year That We Have Video Of" I enjoyed watching the video.
  18. Winning the regular season gives you the #1 seed. With the #1 seed, you should have the advantage to win the MCC. A team only has to win two games in the MAC tourney to get an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney (which is the goal, as stated by KD and players). I would say the new format puts some emphasis on winning the regular season title.
  19. West Virginia soccer?
  20. Let my one margarita experience be a warning to anybody thinking of ordering a margarita at Chipotle....DON'T DO IT. It really looks like a bad idea when I actually type that out. Maybe I should start doing that more often. The margaritas in lot 9 blow those things away.
  21. Mike Thomas talking to Groce
  22. I would like to do the same thing for the University of Michigan alumni in the Akron area at an Aeros game on August 18th. If somebody has that email list, please forward it to me.
  23. They should put Tressel outside of the gate with a "Donate Here" sandwich board sign. Half the honks will think they are giving to Columbus St. Turn these lemons into lemonade.
  24. Dodd's points are valid. I rationalize the hiring in my mind hoping that JT gets some OSU honks to contribute to Akron that would normally contribute to Columbus St.
  25. I'm with you, made me almost embarrassed to be a Zips fan, got a weird feeling. Last years conversation was worse..."hey Dr Z, I went to practice today and I'm telling you Dr Z, I really like whats going on Dr Z, this is going to be a different year in Zips football Dr Z" In a way he was right, it was different! I think I picked up my last 972 call.
