Will the Soccer Team Outscore the Football Team?
Dr Z replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I wonder if the offensive line will have any changes on the first team? I didn't pay close enough attention last Saturday, did the team have the same offensive line the whole game, or did they rotate? I'm guessing if the Zips get up by double digits, or down by double digits, we will see some rotation. This group as a whole needs to STEP IT UP!!! One guy on the line can make a difference, I am watching the result of this on my NFL team. Anybody think we will have another RB in the mix this week? I do. -
Yes, I dedicated hours of my life to watch Zips tournament soccer (vs UNC & Virginia) last year on tv and never saw the Zips score one goal. As a matter of fact, NOBODY scored a goal. I enjoy my weekends too much to suffer through that ever again. Go Zips Soccer! Win it all, if they win and score a goal this time I will watch it on youtube.

I wish you were a Zips fan Mark. Thanks for stopping back and posting. Good observations. I'm glad to hear your trip went well. Post some photos if you have time.

At least you probably get free pizza when their shift is over.

I'm guessing he saw "the other way" at his last job.

GW Linebacker Jeffrey Williams had 18 total tackles last week. Austin Bailey, meet your target, now DESTROY!!!

I hope this negative (lack of faith in the kicking game) turns into a positive for iCoach, and he goes out and recruits a great kicker.

I know enough dedicated alumni (1), that it has never happened, but I would if I had to. I don't see anything wrong with it. Edit: I lied. I forgot, I went to a BG game at BG one time by myself the day of the game. It was a awesome fall day and it was on a whim.

Soccer on the moon is boring. Sorry. On the phone? If anybody catches me watching soccer on my phone...just shoot me. For the rest of my life I won't be able to figure out why soccer fans feel the need to convince football fans that soccer is....(fill in the blank). Akron soccer is awesome, I'm glad. I'm happy for Akron, and their fans. It just bores me to tears. Sorry. This is a good place for your phone info. Now back to the topic at hand, Gardner Webb. What we need to see, one, an effective offense. If we can't string first downs together against GW, we are in trouble for the rest of the year. It HAS to start now. Two, the team needs to limit penalties this week, play a "clean" game. Three, continue to build off of the pressure we created on the QB at times last week. I will go out on a limb and say that we are going to score a TD on defense this week. Three, show the fans some excitement. The average ZN football fan is down on his/her team right now, if we continue to go three and out early, the crowd will get uneasy. If we go up on GW big and win big, most of ZN will be back on board. I'm going to Kentucky and I don't want to be "down" on my team when I do. Zips 28 GW 10

Finally, a good idea, a weekly press conference from iCoach! Only gozips can mess it up. Doesn't everybody and their brother know you can only put up 10 minute videos on youtubes? I really wanted to see this. Click here for mistake

CPA? Certified Public Accountant, or Citizens' Police Academy? Just wondering.

Where did you see this? Rivals Dr Z's pick for best music to go along with sophomore highlights.

Thanks, I might have to get one of those. Kewl shop. Worst idea in the shop. Why would I want a shirt to remind me of sitting in traffic being frustrated?
-
Cowher used to do this too, reasoning was that he trusted his defense to get better field position for his offense than the special teams could. I would be shocked if that was iCoach's answer, but who can ask the question w/o a coach's show? Rasor?

I'm glad iCoach saw some of the same things I did. Here is to improvement this Saturday. Opening Statement: "We are certainly disappointed in how we played (against Syracuse). Overall we just did too many things that good teams don't do. Interestingly enough, we took the ball away from (Syracuse) three times and didn't turn it over once, but still lost, which usually doesn't happen. Issues came with just too many big plays against us. When you give up a blocked field goal for a touchdown, when you have a chance to cut it to 17-6, but instead its 23-3, that's a huge turnaround in a game. We could never really recover from that. I thought our defense at times played very well. (Syracuse) ended up with 430 yards against our defense, but 217 of those yards were on seven plays. If we can do a better job of eliminating some of those bigger plays and be sound on offense and not have some of those special teams snafus, I think we can get ourselves to be a good football team. I expect us to make the most improvement from our first game to our second." Regarding Akron's offense versus Syracuse: "I thought there were times when our receivers could have done a better job of separating and breaking off their routes. Patrick's (Nicely) scrambles had some to do with pressure, some to do with our receivers and some to do with him maybe having to step up into the pocket. So I think there's three factors involved in all of those things. I was pleased that we didn't throw any interceptions, that was a real positive on Patrick's part. The execution of our pass game, because we were forced a lot of the time to max protect and that really puts a lot on the receivers." Regarding his first game as a head coach: "I'm glad my first game is over with and that we have that behind us. I made my first big decision, I decided to differ, so that was my first big decision as a head coach. A lot of things go on during the game, but i was excited about that opportunity, excited about leading this team and this great university. I had a lot of family here to enjoy it. I was pleased that my father was able to be here, who hadn't seen me coach in several years. From that personal perspective it was obvious fulfillment, with what i want to do with my career, but we have a lot of work to do with this program and the time it took to answer this question is about as much time as i was given to thinking about that. We just have so much to do and I'm eager to coach this team and coach them well and for all of them to continue to get better." Regarding the mood of the team after Saturday's loss: "In the locker room I sensed extreme disappointment, and that's a good thing. As I told them, if they weren't disappointed and if this hadn't hurt them a bunch then we had the wrong group in there. When you put a lot of time into something and you don't get the rewards back you had hoped, then it should hurt you. I saw that in their eyes and i sensed that from them." source

I wish I had magical powers. I would replay the Syracuse game with Frye, Joe Montana, and Michael Vick at QB, and post the box score for you guys. I think everybody that went to the game can predict it though. It would only surprise the people that weren't there. I hope our QB gets more chances to make plays in the air this Saturday. Get the TE out in the passing route, provide some check downs and hold on to the post plays down the middle (JC-step it up!). Can we play action pass on first down instead of second down? I'm guessing we won't see as many max protects this week, and we'll see more receivers (WR/TE/RB/FB) in routes. I'm encouraged by Austin Baily's one catch, he seems to have soft hands (if you can judge that from one catch).

I like your thinking B&N. I'm not ready to start burning red shirts just yet, but I see where your coming from. The board seemed to knee jerk reactionary to me to post this weekend. I read a lot of good posts, but man there are some silly thoughts written. I wish every post Sunday started off with, "This being iCoach's first game he EVER coached...." Everybody needs to remember that. I'm encouraged what I saw defensively, and disappointed what I saw offensively. Lets see what progress is made in the second, third, fourth game in iCoach's career before we all hang ourselves. PS This Saturday's weather calls for 75 and partly cloudy. I'm all set to tailgate again.

Do the Akron city and campus buildings like this on game nights. If you want to do it on the cheap, make a student project with laser tag.
