  1. Where did you see this? Rivals Dr Z's pick for best music to go along with sophomore highlights.
  2. Thanks, I might have to get one of those. Kewl shop. Worst idea in the shop. Why would I want a shirt to remind me of sitting in traffic being frustrated?
  3. Cowher used to do this too, reasoning was that he trusted his defense to get better field position for his offense than the special teams could. I would be shocked if that was iCoach's answer, but who can ask the question w/o a coach's show? Rasor?
  4. I'm glad iCoach saw some of the same things I did. Here is to improvement this Saturday. Opening Statement: "We are certainly disappointed in how we played (against Syracuse). Overall we just did too many things that good teams don't do. Interestingly enough, we took the ball away from (Syracuse) three times and didn't turn it over once, but still lost, which usually doesn't happen. Issues came with just too many big plays against us. When you give up a blocked field goal for a touchdown, when you have a chance to cut it to 17-6, but instead its 23-3, that's a huge turnaround in a game. We could never really recover from that. I thought our defense at times played very well. (Syracuse) ended up with 430 yards against our defense, but 217 of those yards were on seven plays. If we can do a better job of eliminating some of those bigger plays and be sound on offense and not have some of those special teams snafus, I think we can get ourselves to be a good football team. I expect us to make the most improvement from our first game to our second." Regarding Akron's offense versus Syracuse: "I thought there were times when our receivers could have done a better job of separating and breaking off their routes. Patrick's (Nicely) scrambles had some to do with pressure, some to do with our receivers and some to do with him maybe having to step up into the pocket. So I think there's three factors involved in all of those things. I was pleased that we didn't throw any interceptions, that was a real positive on Patrick's part. The execution of our pass game, because we were forced a lot of the time to max protect and that really puts a lot on the receivers." Regarding his first game as a head coach: "I'm glad my first game is over with and that we have that behind us. I made my first big decision, I decided to differ, so that was my first big decision as a head coach. A lot of things go on during the game, but i was excited about that opportunity, excited about leading this team and this great university. I had a lot of family here to enjoy it. I was pleased that my father was able to be here, who hadn't seen me coach in several years. From that personal perspective it was obvious fulfillment, with what i want to do with my career, but we have a lot of work to do with this program and the time it took to answer this question is about as much time as i was given to thinking about that. We just have so much to do and I'm eager to coach this team and coach them well and for all of them to continue to get better." Regarding the mood of the team after Saturday's loss: "In the locker room I sensed extreme disappointment, and that's a good thing. As I told them, if they weren't disappointed and if this hadn't hurt them a bunch then we had the wrong group in there. When you put a lot of time into something and you don't get the rewards back you had hoped, then it should hurt you. I saw that in their eyes and i sensed that from them." source
  5. Kewl shirt. Changing his autograph to include #6
  6. I wish I had magical powers. I would replay the Syracuse game with Frye, Joe Montana, and Michael Vick at QB, and post the box score for you guys. I think everybody that went to the game can predict it though. It would only surprise the people that weren't there. I hope our QB gets more chances to make plays in the air this Saturday. Get the TE out in the passing route, provide some check downs and hold on to the post plays down the middle (JC-step it up!). Can we play action pass on first down instead of second down? I'm guessing we won't see as many max protects this week, and we'll see more receivers (WR/TE/RB/FB) in routes. I'm encouraged by Austin Baily's one catch, he seems to have soft hands (if you can judge that from one catch).
  7. I like your thinking B&N. I'm not ready to start burning red shirts just yet, but I see where your coming from. The board seemed to knee jerk reactionary to me to post this weekend. I read a lot of good posts, but man there are some silly thoughts written. I wish every post Sunday started off with, "This being iCoach's first game he EVER coached...." Everybody needs to remember that. I'm encouraged what I saw defensively, and disappointed what I saw offensively. Lets see what progress is made in the second, third, fourth game in iCoach's career before we all hang ourselves. PS This Saturday's weather calls for 75 and partly cloudy. I'm all set to tailgate again.
  8. Harrah's will be involved in the Cleveland casino.
  9. From Lot 9. The Lot was pretty full.
  10. It was in his genes.
  11. Do the Akron city and campus buildings like this on game nights. If you want to do it on the cheap, make a student project with laser tag.
  12. Loud booming firework in the sky ever hour on the hour with blue and gold smoke starting at noon to "wake up" Joe Akron on game days. Night games should have a Zips logo being shown like the bat signal in the sky. In a certain city nearby they like to say "It's a hockey night in...." We should adopt something like that. It's a football day/night in Akron. Advertised throughout the city on the sides of buildings the day of the game. Downtown buildings leaving the lights on certain offices that spell out ZIPS. Try to get people excited. Once again, this all helps when we have a quality product.
  13. I like your "suggested" schedule better than the current Mac. Ever since Marshall and CFU left, I haven't liked the Mac (excluding Temple).
  14. Your using politicians to make a point about lack of intelligence in the world? I agree with all your reasoning as to why our attendance should be over 20k tomorrow. I'll guess 22,222.
  15. "They're picked to finish last....but I think they have a good chance to do better than that" CK is right, go back to writing. I wish I learned something watching this. He could have won me over when he was speaking of last years defense and said "some Zip fans didn't like" and changed it to "Dr Z hated"
  16. I just got word, they won. The band wanted to thank ZN for the votes.
  17. Jason Taylor gets a lot of camera time in this weeks episode. Some of it is humorous. Commuting adventures. If you ever wondered what a GM negotiation with a player who is being asked to take less money is like, this weeks episode is for you. This is my favorite show on tv right now, I'll hate to see it end next week. Replay tonight: 6 pm HBO East
  18. I agree with the guys, The Daily Orange is doing a good job of pumping out opponent articles. Ianello’s 4-3 defense is the third defensive formation Akron has played in the past three years??? 4-3, 3-3-5 and....???? JD quote when he got hired "I'm bringing a defense to the Mac that they have never seen (3-3-5)" What is this third defense? Don't say "stack" either, same as 3-3-5. PS There is a Mac team playing the 4-2-5 this year (serious).
  19. I hope somebody advertises this more than the GZ little link.
  20. Great piece! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Coach Porter's theory on scheduling, I wish he would have a long talk with the basketball coach on the subject. After seeing footage again of that kick ball competition from last year, I still want those hours of my life back. As long as I live, I'll never forgive myself for that.
  21. I'm shocked that ZN members didn't ask any good questions!?! That was my favorite thing about the football outing, I got to ask questions I didn't know the answers to. But sometimes there is that one guy that tries to monopolize the coach's time and ask him dumb question after dumb question and you can't get quality time. "Hey coach, you think Zeke is going to be better next year?", "Hey coach, how's the schedule look?", "Hey coach, are we gunna win the Mac this year?"....
  22. I got to watch this show last night. Worth while for any ZN reader. I get why Stams moved on to tv. He and Underwood were good on the show. Well shot, well edited, good graphics and informational. Great job STO. Check it out: Today at 2 pm & 6 pm Tomorrow 9/3 at 2 am
  23. Both old schemes would suffer in the wind, our new schemes favor poor weather conditions. With that being said, I hope it is 71 degrees and sunny on Saturday.
  24. Football Golf Outing is the same idea. Get to talk to the coach, staff and players AND, get to play golf. That's why so many were upset that it was scratched.
