Good topic. I'll play along.First off, I don't feel that comparing an NFL coaching situation to an Akron college coaching situation is fair.Many reasons, but money being the biggest. Somebody (CK maybe) made the Ball St coaching analogy.That is probably more fitting. But your point is a good one, and is valid.That being said, your asking me to tell you why I want the coach removed, I don't. I think JD is the right kind of leader for the Zips, and I agree with youthat changing the coach would only be a set back at this point.Buuuuuut, if I had to give you one reason why we should change, you know this is coming...it's the 3-3-5. Period.Once JD admits his mistake and says "you know, when I first got in this league I thought the 3-3-5 was the proper way to go, I now realize that I can succeed with (insert new defense here). I have been giventhe proper tools to recruit at a higher level now and I am able to put the right athlete in the right position."That would excite me about Akron football. I'll be living off the high of the new stadium next year, but if our defenseis playing the same way come 2010, I'm putting a donation site together until I reach my goal of buying a billboard in Akron that has simple text across the billboard that says "changeyourdefensejd.com"

Maybe I was in a good mood from a Zips win on Saturday, but one of my first thoughts after the game was, "that was really fun to listen to" I really like the way the three man team has evolved. Question: What is the current state of the Zips?Defensively, we have our ups and downs and this last game was really a down. We have the capabilities to do good things. We just have to get better and play much better than we did against Eastern Michigan. We are looking for consistency. You see players do the right things and play well one play and do something completely different later in the same situation.Question: Can you win with this defense?Yes we can. If you look at the season we have played well enough to win. You just can not give teams short fields, especially late, and think the defense will be able to stop an opponent when they only have to go 10-30 yards to score. We have to improve during the bye week.Source----------------------------------------We are giving up 405 yards per game, only 26 teams in the nation are worse. That is a LOT of 10-30 yard scores!?!?Only 5 teams in the nation are worse than us at giving up rushing yards. If you want to succeed in defense, STOP the run.I'm glad that whomever is asking the questions, keeps on asking if he can win with this defense week after week.Coaching staff, improve our D during our time off. It will make all other phases of the game seem so much easier.

Totally agree. We don't HAVE to have 4 good DL. How about 2 or 3 good DL and 1 or 2 average DL. Works for everybody else.

It's all about numbers if you blitz a DB in a 3-3-5, offense only has to block 4 attackers.Blitz a DB in a 4-3 and now they have to block 5.When JD described this defense, he said you would never know where the pressure is coming from in a 3-3-5.I'm thinking my definition of pressure and his definition of pressure are not the same.You are right ZW, we do NOTHING to disrupt the QB. On top of that the QB always has the running game to depend on.We do everything to make the opposing QB's job easy.

The Toledo game will be like the rest of our games. Pressure will be on our offense to score on almost every possession.That's the way the 3-3-5 roles, it's a bend and break D.At least it's consistent.
