In the past, teams from the Mountain West, MAC, WAC, Conference USA and Sun Belt had to finish in the top six of the BCS standings to be guaranteed a BCS bowl berth. The only such team to meet that standard over the past eight seasons was 11-0 Utah in 2004. Starting this season, a champion from one of those leagues, or an independent, can earn a guaranteed berth either by finishing in the top 12 or by finishing in the top 16 if one of the major-conference champions is ranked lower. If the new standard had been in place last season, 10-1 TCU would have earned an automatic berth because it finished 14th while ACC champion Florida State, at 8-4, was 22nd.My favorite new rule for this year:Notre Dame will be guaranteed an at-large berth if it finishes in the top eight.Source (SI.com)

I'll be there.I was discussing the fact that I liked the matchup between Getsy vs an all new Penn State secondary with friends last night.I had to look it up to make sureThe defense will feature a new secondary, responsible for replacing the four seniors from last year's starting defensive backfield. Justin King and Tony Davis are penciled in as the first-team corners, while rising seniors Nolan McCready and Donnie Johnson will play at the safety spots. We made the over/under for Getsy, 265 passing yards in the game and I took the over.

I was just trying to think of a guy that had some ties to NE Ohio sports with a ton of money that owed something back.(I'm sure all Akron players in the NFL have already been hit up)Would it change people's opinion of him if he donated a ton of money to get this project done?Or would your last thought of him still be the one of him crying in the locker room cussing out Browns fans.I think it would change my opinion of him, but I doubt he is looking for good PR around here anymore. He is probably happy with all his money he made off of the Browns fans and could care less on his Kentucky ranch.

I pick this guy. He owes NE Ohio sports fans more money than anybody. He robbed them blind. Time to donate something back.

Eastern Michigan??? What's the super sleeper K-ent?

Since this is an AKRON site, I'll try to put an AKRON slant on this post."We're all grown men," he (Lebron) said, sounding like one -- even though he is, oh, Lord, just 21. "You think about it: It's just basketball. It's not life or death. They're not the Big Bad Wolf and we're the Three Little Pigs."Reminds me of Dambrot quotes after games. If you listen to Dambrot after games and you listen to Lebron, they seem to have the same tone and message. They are both entertaining to listen to after the game. The don't give you the same ol' cliches (yet).sourceHere is a forum if you would like to talk Cavs

Getsy to get more control at the line of scrimmage
Dr Z replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sad, but true:Butchel College, the original name for Akron, was both coached and quarterbacked by John W. Heisman in 1894, when they upset Ohio State 12-6 -
Akron QB Luke Getsy will have more control at the line of scrimmage this season. Zips coach J.D. Brookhart wants Getsy, who had become the MAC's best player by the end of last season, to manage the offense and change plays at the line if needed. The Zips' passing offense made huge strides in Brookhart's first two seasons and will give Penn State--with its revamped secondary--plenty of problems in their season opener. The Zips also play at N.C. State (with its gutted defense) on September 9 in what has to be one of the season's easiest upset picks. . . Matt Hayes from the Sporting News

Frye's "mentor" asked to undergo a psychiatric examBernie Kosar's wife asked a judge to order one of Cleveland's favorite former quarterbacks to undergo a psychiatric exam. She also asked the judge to have Kosar tested for drugs amid an ugly divorce unfolding in a Florida court.Whether Kosar had to do either is unclear, but he told the Miami Herald that he still loves his wife, Babette, and hopes their marriage can be saved even now, seven months after she filed for divorce.

Maybe the Browns do have a mentor for their young quarterbacks. His name is Bernie Kosar, and he's reportedly been spending more time with the team lately. He and Ken Dorsey are friends, sharing a University of Miami connection. Last year, Kosar took Frye under his wing.sourceSo how will Kosar's mental state effect this relationship? This is strange!?!?Former NFL star and multimillionaire businessman Bernie Kosar and wife Babette are in divorce court. She filed -- in Broward. The Weston couple, both 42 and married for 16 years, have four children, ages 6, 8, 13 and 14.''I love my wife and kids,'' Kosar says. ``I don't want to be divorced. I don't believe in it.''Babette accuses Bernie of ''increasingly bizarre and erratic behavior and various other addictions,'' according to court docs. He has been ''giving away money and interest in other significant marital assets including real property to family and friends.'' He acts ''financially irrationally and irresponsibly'' -- and even plans to buy a house four doors from where they now live, she says.Kosar needs ''help'' . . . and should ''focus his energies on his mental health and not on the purchase of the [other] home,'' she says. Besides, ``it will be almost impossible . . . to develop independent lives . . . in such close proximity . . .''No one will comment on the ''addictions'' she refers to. Some case documents are sealed -- at Kosar's request. That's because she ''makes very detailed, personal allegations'' about his ''character and mental well-being,'' he says in court papers.

I like your angle McGriff.I could respect the article more if he made a better case.In any "newspaper" story, you should consider the source.PS Please don't bother to email this clown. That would only give him attention he doesn't deserve for a HACK piece.

Anybody feel like the Cleveland Savages moved out Dilfer to make room for someone else at any cost? Dilfer for Dorsey may be the worst trade since they traded up one for the soldier."I told Ken if somebody breaks free that we think is going to make us better, we'll bring him in," Savage said.source: todays PDI can't help feeling sorry for Charlie.

The Mike Shanahan-Jay Cutler marriage is going to be one of those 15-year unions. I said to Shanahan on Sunday night, "If Cutler's right when he says he hasn't talked to you guys for two months, how in the world did you end up taking him with the 11th pick in the draft?'' Shanahan laughed. "The first time I talked to him was yesterday, after the pick, and we met here today," Shanahan said from Denver. "I studied him and watched him and looked at the draft board and didn't say very much to anyone. I said, 'I'm just going to shut up and hope it works out.' I've been in this thing long enough. You don't give anyone your hand. Don't give anyone an idea, or it's out very quickly. Keep it to yourself.source

I wonder why Denver jumped ahead of Cleveland to take Jay Cutler?I think the honest Mr Savage (see I didn't want Harrington, I did want Harrington story),saying that he was going to trade his pick if Cutler fell to them might be a load of (as soon as I heard Savage say they would trade that pick if any of the top three QBs fell. I thought they would have taken a QB if they (top 3) did. I'm guessing Denver did too)The draft value chart shows the difference between the pick above the Browns and the Browns pick was about 250 units. The difference is a top third round pick.So why would Denver give away value like that if the Browns were willing to trade?I wonder if any of this motivates Charlie? Just a thought.

What do you mean Captain? It's very easy, get one of those red decoder gels from your TRIX box from the 80's and hold it up to the screen. Piece of cake.
