My New Years resolution is to not comment on the LU anymore. BUT... you can't kick me :nutkick:kick me kick me kick me ...and then write a few articles for a few months and think I'm your friend It doesn't hurt me if someone buys a Beacon, but everybody here has been warned, so QUIT complaining when you don't see a snip-it telling when and where the Akron/Toledo game is the day of the game. Don't post when you see them print wrong info on the team.Just do a search on the site and read all the commentsthat have already been posted on the subject. Nothing anybody is going to type is going to be new on the subject.Did I just break my resolution?

2006 MAC football recruiting preview
Dr Z replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Prospects:Akron is still in the running for other quality RBs; Bruce Frierson, a 5-8 180-pound speedster from Cleveland Glenville; Chris Ifante, a 6-foot 210-pounder from the Pocono Mountains (PA) and Leon Wright from St. Petersburg (FL). The Zips are still in the running for an impressive group of receivers; Quindell Dean from Uniontown (PA); DJ Henderson from Jacksonville (FL); Terrence McCrae from Connellsville (PA); and Jason Simmons, a 6-6 200-pounder from Matawan (NJ). On the TE front, Akron is hoping to land 6-7 245-pound Seth Price from Grove City (OH). Other offensive line prospects include Brandon Frey from Lombard (IL) and Chris Hanna from Pittsburgh Gateway (PA).On the defensive line, Lamar Mapp from Springfield (OH) South is one of the top DE prospects in the Midwest, is close to giving a verbal to Akron while D-line prospect Ernest Hodge from the Hargrave Military Academy (VA) is also being highly recruited. Akron is still recruiting several high profile DB prospects, included are Derrell Johnson from Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Moody; Bryant Milligan from Cleveland Glenville; Elijah Fields from Pittsburgh Duquesne; Josh Moore from Pompano Beach (FL) Ely and Cart Kelly from Pittsburgh Baldwin.Comments:Last year several publications hailed Akron as having the best class in the MAC while my publication rated the Zips #2. Needless to say, they had an excellent crop - certainly their best ever. Coming off of their first ever MAC championship and first ever bowl appearance, look for Akron to have another very solid class that will likely rank very high once again. -

...or it is just a title promotion with a raise to keep him on staff because JD appreciates him.Steelers did the same thing with Russ Grimm a few years ago. Worked for a while, now he might be gone.Zips aide Moorhead promotedBy Gary EstwickBeacon Journal sportswriterUniversity of Akron coach J.D. Brookhart promoted assistant Joe Moorhead to co-offensive coordinator Wednesday, one day after Moorhead interviewed for the coaching vacancy at Georgetown University. The promotion allows Brookhart to retain one of the coaches that helped the Zips win their first Mid-American Conference title this season and qualify for their first Division I bowl game.Moorhead interviewed with Georgetown on Tuesday before withdrawing from consideration Wednesday.``We've built a lot of positive momentum here at the university with what we've done in the past few years,'' Moorhead said. ``Our offensive staff works great as a team, and we're just looking to carry this momentum and keep things going in the right direction.''Moorhead recently completed his second season with the Zips. He has served as recruiting coordinator, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He will retain those duties. He will also share offensive coordinator duties with Jim Pry, who has served in the position for the past two seasons.Moorhead played quarterback at Fordham, where he graduated in 1996 with a degree in English. He also played two seasons in the Arena Football League.

What would you focus on this offseason?
Dr Z replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I looked at a few. Your right it looked pretty weak to me.----------------------------------------------------------As for Swiger, I agree that he will not be an NFL kicker. The point was to give someone's perspective that he is thought of as the 7th best senior in the nation. If anybody watched the Penn State, Florida State, Texas field goal and extra attempts in the past week, you might appreciate Swiger a little more.As far as kickoffs. There are ten other people on the kickoff coverage team, they also count. -
Give the guy a line or he is going to end up injured enough we'll never know if he can play.I don't remember Couch running around as much as Charlie did in the last two games. The dude got BEAT up. Good luck Charlie, your gunna need it.If I were a Browns fan, I would be happy with what I seen out of Charlie this year.Remember he is a ROOKIE. Give him a chance to go through a camp getting more snaps.Wait until Charlie learns the offense inside and out, like you know he will. Then start making some decisions on wether or not he can "make" it in the NFL.Get some WR's. I NEVER seen as many dropped passes as I have with that group.I'm not making excuses for Charlie, I just think I need to see more than just a handfullof starts to decide if he is a "Kelly Holcomb"???

Swiger ranked 7th in draft Go to the defensive prospects section on the left-hand side of the screen and select kickers...he is now ranked 7thI always thought he was under-rated. That kick against Marshall was as clutch as I witnessed at the RB. -
For those of you that don't go to the BJ web page:Prop 48 playersFootballI haven't seen much on new recruits lately. I know Akron is still after star safety Elijah Fields and star wide receiver Terrence McCrae. Until either of them commit, I'll update you on a couple of last year's signees who haven't played yet.Antwon Hight is a defensive tackle from Canton McKinley. Scout.com ranked him as the 36th best at his position in the country. Ohio State really wanted to get its hands on him. And Hight wanted to go to Ohio State. But he'll be the first person to tell you that his grades were terrible. So he had to go to classes at UA this fall to become eligible to play for the Zips. An inside source with the team tells me that Hight will be suited up for the Zips next season. I assume Nate Robinson, Jermaine Reid and Kiki Gonzalez will start on the defensive line, so Hight may have to wait a year before getting serious playing time.Jose Cruz is a tight end from Pennsylvania. Rivals.com ranked him as the 36th best tight end (not a typo, both Hight and Cruz are 36th). He also is enrolled in classes at UA. Playing time probably will be sparce for Cruz's first couple years. He will be behind Kris Kasparek (junior next year) and Merce Poindexter (sophomore next year). Marlon Terry was also a prized recruit. He was the 46th best defensive tackle and came from Buchtel High School in Akron. He is not in school. Don't expect to see him in pads anytime soon.Scott Uziel, another tight end from Pennsylvania, has transferred to a small school in his home state. My inside source tells me that Uziel is J.D. Brookhart's only recruit to transfer.By the way, if you asked me to guess, I'd say Fields is going to Ohio State and McCrae will sign with Akron

Nice try Elton, hurry up and call your buddy Winters and tell him to unpack his bags (Elton may be the only one that gets that crack)

It downloads as akron.avi, do a search on that.

DeAngelo listed as #5 pick overall in mock draft 5. Arizona Cardinals – DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis, At this point, there’s not a huge need that can be filled without reaching, so they go with the value pick. They invested a high second-round pick in J.J. Arrington last year, but Williams’ has a much higher upside. A trade down is a strong possibility as well.

Good stuff, thanks DA. We should think about incorporating this on the zipsnation home page. What an advertisement for the Zips. That's worth more than any crappy article any of those hacks at the BJ or PD could conjure.

The #1 running back in the nation wouldn't crack our 2-deep?? You're insane. This kid is going to be a star. If you think he's the best high school running back in the nation you are a fool. The best running back in the nation would have ran for more then 98 yards on thirty some carries against Hoban. They wouldn't take themselves out of games on crucial fourth and 1's late in the fourth quarter. You all hear that some publications rank him number one and think he's the next messiah. If any of you saw him play you'd agree with me. I have never seen Chris play in person. But I would like to make this point. Being an Indians fan, I enjoy going to minor league games to watch the Indians “next stars†I have watched players from Jaret Wright, CC and Baez in Akron, to Bell, Manny and Thome in Canton. This is a short list of many to save time. Point is, sometimes when you go to see a prospect, it is very obvious that the guy plays head and shoulders above everybody in his class, and sometimes It’s not so obvious. An example (for me) of someone that was not so obvious is Victor Martinez. I think I saw him play in Akron 5 or 6 times. I NEVER seen him get anything better than a single in a game and I never seen him get more than one hit during a game. I think I saw three games where he went 0 for 5. I didn’t understand how this guy was the Indians catcher of the future and I kept reading he had such a good bat??? Well you know the result. He is a huge success in the majors now. I can also make this point with Rudy Saenz. Sometimes there are certain players that don’t impress you in a lower level of play but have all the tools to do so. Chris may be a guy that has the tools but needs somebody to motivate him. I don’t know. Maybe you know more than me on this subject but this was what I thought of when I read this thread. I’m not saying you are wrong or right, I’m just making an observation. From what I read about this guy, he will surely help this program. Having players that are rated so high on anybody’s list visiting and considering Akron is a huge accomplishment in our program.

One of us should subscribe to rivals, might be more value with JD recruiting now. Click through different coaches to see who we are "targeting" (kind of neat)
-
Fear the Roo Chris! JD will make you a superstar. Tressel will turn you into another Clarett. Rivals #8 OVERALL Lemming #2 back OVERALL 2. Chris Wells, Garfield (Ohio), 6-2, 230 lbs., 4.48 After McCoy, the drop-off is hardly steep. Akron native Wells is, in effect, Maurice Clarett with a good attitude. He's the same uncanny combination of size, speed, vision and balance as the embattled ex-Buckeye, and he's certainly capable of doing what Maurice did as a frosh at Ohio State. I think he could become a household name in the first few weeks of his college career. As a junior, he carried the ball 212 times for 1,984 yards and 24 scores

Well put. Let's take a look at the local paper and see if Elton was on to something
-
If I was anybody from the university I would refuse to talk to Elton if asked. What an A$$ We don't need the BJ or the PD for coverage, we have ESPN and they reach a million times more sports fans. FU Elton !!!! Here is a real story who might get the job
-
I think they are still trying to figure out why Holcomb is starting and not Couch. I love that debate. I could listen to that all day long. Cleveland sports talk oooooAAAhhhhh. I'm with Frank, dump sports talk, it only makes people dumber
-
You shoulda been there, Dr. Z. They introduced the football team...JD spoke a few words...the team began to exit...and the Berman clip came on the big screen. Everyone stopped to watch. A magical moment...lots of Zips pride beaming after it was done. OK...Now it's time to focus on Memphis!!! Good job UAM.

Do you guys have a football forum? Which one? Usually you can get a pretty good feel about the team from poking around the forum. Are there any people's post on that board that we should ignore? If it's not too much of a hassle, could you scan the playbook, and make downloadable pdf's and post them here? Looking forward to meeting some Tiger fans on the 26th. I know one thing we have in common, we both like to beat Marshall. Next time you see a Marshall fan, tell them we miss beating them.
