  1. Sun Belt Conference was the answer. I might have won, I'll wait for an official announcement from the author of the thread.
  2. The joy of watching a six point victory over the Georgia State Panthers.
  3. Woodson had 31 completions, and the Mountaineers had 307 yards of rushing. Congratulations to AppinSC.
  4. Agreed. Done.
  5. The Zips strength is their passing game. They will probably come out throwing. If I were App, I would defend the pass well, and make the Zips run.
  6. Which referees will be at the game? Hope we get the female referee we can last year, is she still in the MAC?
  7. Sounds awesome. If a MAC ref could throw a future flag, he would.
  8. Waiting for the next post...."I'm concerned coach Bowden is promoting the program too much and not focusing on the team" Back to what's important, the game. Small Hustlebelt preview...Akron Ready to Turn Some Heads. The Akron Zips host the Appalachian State Mountaineers at InfoCision Stadium in Akron on Saturday at 3:30 with a chance to turn some heads around the country. All that stands in their way is an App State squad who manages to make national headlines seemingly every year. This figures to be a fun game. The Mountaineers started their season with a nail-biting loss at (alleged) powerhouse Tennessee and followed it up with a smacking of Old Dominion. Last week the perennial Cinderellas hosted the Miami Hurricanes in what was by far the biggest game in the history of their campus. It was supposed to be close. It was not close. --By Kevin Nye Perfect Tailgating Weather!
  9. Practice squad players earn a minimum of $6,900 per week that they are on the practice squad. That's $117,300 for a seventeen-week season, plus $6,900 per week his team is in the playoffs. That's a significant amount of money, but the lowest-paid player on the 53-man roster earn almost four times as much: $450,000 for a rookie. Those are minimum numbers, though, and players can and often do elect to pay their practice squad players more to keep them from signing with other teams -- sometimes, practice squad players make as much as the rookie minimum salary, to make sure they won't be tempted by another team's offer to sign onto their 53-man roster. The Bucs reportedly paid Howard Jones a rookie minimum salary last season, before signing him to their own 53-man roster. --bucsnation The Patriots for example are one NFL team that consistently goes above and beyond the minimum practice squad rate. At certain points, the Pats have paid their entire practice squad weekly rates above the minimum salary. In 2015, the Rams paid supplemental draft pick OT Isaiah Battle $25,588 per week, which adds up to last year's $435,000 rookie minimum over 17 weeks, the highest amount ever paid to a practice squad player. The upside of the practice squad is that if a player is called up to the 53-man regular roster, either by his own team or by another team, he automatically signs a contract with the $450,000 minimum NFL salary. And because three weeks of that contract are guaranteed, even if that player is released, waived or traded before the three weeks are up, being called up comes with a $79,411 guarantee (3/17th of $450,000).
  10. Akron's athletic director used to play for the Browns, and they are wisely starting to market to area Browns (football) fans.
  11. The best marketing a coach can do is prepare his team to win games. Coach Bowden has won the last 7 out of 8 games. @CoachRobIanello tweets all the time.
  12. Saban would have failed at Kent like he did with the Dolphins because he wouldn't have superior talent at every position like he does at Bama.
  13. Can we count his pick if he thinks Lane played LB last year? He also thinks Art Briles will be at Auburn next year.
  14. Feel free to explain your answers. Members that answer all three correctly will be recognized Sunday morning. Saturday, September 24, 3:30 PM on ESP3, AMSN Summa Field at InfoCision Stadium, Akron, Ohio
  15. He did halftime with Larry Williams and spoke about the Zips and Browns, no commentary during the game. While his speech isn't perfect, his football mind is still sharp. I love listening to him speak about football, he is a wealth of football knowledge. He still does a show on channel 19. He lost his commentary job when he told the truth about the Rams, and numbskull Fisher cried.
  16. This is unique enough it deserves it's own thread. Great idea. Bernie is very active on Twitter, I bet he would love to hear from Zip fans. We need to get him some Zips gear! Get him in the booth with French! Let him do some color commentary on anything Zips football related. Television will dictate time. They have to let the Zips know at least 12 days prior to the game.
  17. This relates to his success and maturation as a passer. Woodson averages 4.4 yards a carry, while Chapman averages 1.4. Makes sense to me that Tommy needed a breather, rather than to put Travon in to run in place of Tommy. Good for Travon for making the most of that opportunity. Note: Coach calling MTB an H back. I love to hear coach call the time of possession stat a relic.
  18. Agreed, I think coach Milwee is off to his best start in Akron. If the Mountaineers play cover 2, as indicated by App fan previously, coach Milwee will be attacking this defense different from last week. Look for a lot of high/low routes from receivers. The Zips will need to draw some safety attention deep to attack underneath. The Zips receiving corp is deep enough to handle the task. X and Z's should bring their track shoes Saturday. I would expect to see a lot of rotation. Watch to see if the Mountaineers mix their cover 2 to try to confuse Woodson, I know I sure would. He is too good to play man. I would be careful running any long developing "stretch" plays against the Mountaineers. I would prefer to run some screens, and those quick outside throws to Lane when I see those safeties too far back. Woodson scores too easy on the long ball, take that away, and make him beat you underneath. Make the Zips work in the red zone, that's how I would defend. The Zips will need to run the ball effectively if this is the way they get defended. Ball will be missed. Weather looks perfect, I'm hoping for a great game.
  19. Yes, thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for. If I were defending the Zips, I would play a lot of cover two. The Zips will need some kind of run game, or more underneath stuff than they are used to in order to be effective offensively. Good luck.
  20. There are some local places in this food thread in another forum. Here is the Swenson's site kreed mentions. LeBron James Pitches Trainwreck Sequel in 'Funny or Die' Sketch At Swenson's North Canton is too far south for me to help you, but here is a TripAdvisor list to get you started. Hilltopper, or others can probably comment more intelligently.
  21. Thanks for taking the time to join and post. Enjoy your time in Akron. The self-inflicted mistakes should be pretty even, Akron was flagged 13 times for 136 yards last week. Hopefully we can come to some kind of compromise with this weekend's referees. IMO, you would be correct to worry about this. It is one of the Zips strengths. Good luck, and safe travels.
  22. After three weeks into the 2016 season, Thomas Woodson is fourth in the nation in passing efficiency. One spot ahead of JT Barrett. But Thomas is not the most efficient in the state of Ohio. That honor belongs to Toledo's Logan Woodside, who matches up against Woodson in Akron Nov 2nd. If you are wondering how Akron has won their last 6 out of 7 games, efficient play at the quarterback position would be a great place to start. I don't think I have ever seen a better long ball thrown by a quarterback in an Akron uniform.
  23. How would you describe your scheme in the secondary? They will be challenged this weekend. I know the Mountaineers play a 3-4 defensive scheme but I can't pick up what they are doing on the backend from watching ESPN3. Our offensive line will have their work cut out for them stopping the pass rush. I really wish Warren Ball had a crack at their 3-4 front, I feel the size matchup would have been conducive to some broken tackles.
  24. Jelani even got flagged for that on Saturday.
